    I received my OnePlus open, and I am really impressed. The previous OnePlus (8 - 10) devices always felt like they lacked something (camera, wireless charging, boring design). Even though the open doesn't have wireless charging, it has a lot more going for it. I was skeptical buying a folding phone but I'm happy I did.

    The Open looks good. I think they are going to force Samsung to step up their game.
    I think one other thing that will give Samsung an advantage that I didn't hear you say anything about is trade in deals. Samsung always has deals so that $100 price difference is negligible to meaningless.

      Actually, one plus is offering some pretty good trade-in deals. They are offering $200 on any cell phone in any condition. In addition, I checked the value for a trade in of my 11 and they are offering nearly $800. Although, I love my 11 and I have no interest in trading it. I want to use this phone for a few years. The main issues with oneplus open is no direct carrier support, historically poor software support, unknown warranty support. You add all those things up and it's essentially a no-go. You won't see anything reactive by Samsung for at least 2 generations since that's how long it usually takes to make significant design changes.

      It is. It's a beast. I wouldn't trade it for any other phone out there right now. The Open has a brighter display, lower cost for the same storage, the outside display is not freakishly narrow, the predictive text for swiping and texting is a lot better as well, also, the hinge on the open has about half the moving parts on its hinge compared to the Z Fold and the Pixel Fold, etc.

      @galenblack8321 10 месяцев назад

      @@powgee22 , cheap brand. If I were you I would look up the difference between cheap and inexpensive and then use the right word. One Plus is not a cheap brand. It does tend to be inexpensive. if you're saying it's cheap because it has midrange phones that are inexpensive, like the Nord, then I guess by that logic, so does Samsung and most other phone makers. Which would mean they are cheap as well. The One Plus open uses one of the best processors that there is right now the 8 Gen 2. It has 16, not 12 GB of RAM. It has 2,800 nits at peak brightness, much higher than Apple's, Samsung's or Google's phones. It also costs hundreds less for the same storage of 512 GB. I have the phone and have had it for a couple of days. There is nothing cheap about it. It is definitely a high end premium feeling phone. The Z Fold 5 is way too narrow and almost unusable. The crease in the Z Fold 5 and the Pixel Fold is right there in your face, whereas the crease in the OnePlus Open is barely noticeable. I have played around with the other two and they are not nearly as nice as the Oneplus Open. Just something to think about before you pass judgement on the Open.

    Since all reviewers do not have the ability to assess long term durability or software update reliability we only get a 50% of a review comparison. MKBHD mentioned that his phone already has screen damage, and it's as simple as folding and unfolding it. Some testers I watched on RUclips said that the hinge of the OnePlus isn't as premium as the Fold 5. This phone is incredible. No real drawbacks.
    So I'm going to nit pick.
    - No Wireless charging is not a real negative because fast charging and the 4800mah battery are more than worth the trade.
    - No Snap dragon 8 g3. We always want the latest and greatest especially in a $1700.00 flagship that will be kept for 3-4 years. I would have wanted the gen3 chip being that it is tangibly faster with similar to better efficiency vs the gen2 and the gen3 chip is launching soon in other flagship devices. However gen 2 is no slouch in efficiency or performance
    - Camera Bump. While beautiful, its large and it's protrusion is a tad annoying, especially when you sit or lay it down. The stock case helps just a tad, but I'm most concerned about scratches and impacts damaging the lens or lens bezel.
    Everything else is top tier no complaints. I'm loving and enjoying mine more everyday.

    The Open looks like the best foldable I've seen yet. The only real gripes I would have is the fact that they released it late in the year with Android 13. If they had waited a few weeks and released it with Android 14 you could make the most of it's four years of OS updates. In addition, a slight delay in its release could have afforded them the time to give the device the Gen 3 chipset. This used to be the same strategy when they offered the T variance later in the year. On the other hand, have they done that it would have probably coincided too closely with the release of the 12. Still, if I were interested in a folding device this would be my choice.

    It feels like a lot of people are saying that "Samsung is resting on their laurels" and although some of that may be true, there is more to product management and product delivery when it comes to such a big company with many different products. Samsung practically did nothing new ever since the Note came out in 2014 for a long time. They just refined their flagship "bar" phones a little bit each year. However, behind the scenes, they were working on their flexible OLED display to eventually come out with the Flip and the Fold. Samsung also pioneers displays for many, many other phones and devices as well. So yeah, it may seem like nothing is happening on the surface but they still dedicate time and resources into innovating something new. It could be that there is not much they can really do with their current Flip and Fold aside from making small changes here and there to stay on top of the competition, or they can use that resource to create something completely new again in 4-5 years.

    I feel like if the OnePlus Open have the 1TB option like the Oppo find N3 (same phone, I think) it would be great for someone like me that use there phone as a emulation device as well. I feel like 512GB is too small of storage if I were to store media and video games. I hope the next versions of foldable have larger storage options maybe like 2TB if possible but that could be wishful thinking since these devices does not support micro SD. Anyways been a fan of the channel and keep up that good work. Cheers!

    Really loving the Oneplus open. It is hands down the best foldable I've ever owned. Only thing that I do not like is the OnePlus website/Application and their customer service. It did not let me apply the $50 coupon when checking out and now my Account has nothing under my orders tab. Even the original receipt I received through email is blank whenever I go to it. Based on the research I did online this is a very common thing for people that have traded in devices. Sent out my trade in device to them today. A bit shady that they are not allowing me to see my original receipt or is is just a glitch in their system. I'd be curious to know if this has happened to anyone else. But the device itself is a home run for sure. Form factor, software are superb. Hopefully some of the bigger case manufacturers will start making cases for the open soon.

    I'm a big fan of my Fold 4's form factor. Closed is great for one-handed use. Open is great for 2-handed use. The only thing I would want it wider when closed for, is if my inner screen fails - because if I've got two hands free to use my phone I'm gonna open it, and if i don't have two hands free then I want to be able to reach the left side with my thumb.
    Also the S Pen is nice to have.
    Also I'm not made of money, so I'd be in trouble if I decided I wasn't happy with my current phone every time something new came out.

    • @sparky6757
      @sparky6757 10 месяцев назад

      @durianepicurean6382 I mean, can I technically reach the left side of a bigger phone with my thumb? Yeah. It's just not as comfortable to.
      I have pretty normal sized hands, just the way I naturally grip a phone makes it easier for me to reach the top and bottom but harder for me to reach the left side. If I do hand gymnastics I can reach the left side while open with one hand - I just would prefer not to do hand gymnastics. And the _comfortable_ reach of my thumb is a hair further than the closed width of the Z Fold.

Me and dad updated ours but mom never updated hers. Soo the other day I was out with my mom and I was like give me ur phone and I'll update to 14. Well when I went to her update the 14 update was nowhere to be found. It said android 13 and when I click to update it says it's up to date even when I keep on hitting the update. So the 14 update that was on her phone has went away. Should I just wait or what. I can put beta 14 on there and then not update that and hópefully it will automatically go to stable after 3 months or whatever. Her security is September as well so I dunno what's going on. Any thoughts?

    I actually just purchased and am using /learning the Honor Magic v2. I like the Oppo, of the two (fold and open), and I've been a samsung loyalist since the Note1. I can't neglect the over seas devices, simply because they're better(even the software). Thinner, more polished, more up to date, cheaper, bigger and more advanced battery tech, and they actually work. I'm speaking mostly regarding my v2, but the majority of the Chinese devices have these advantages. Yes, a few work arounds, but even my folds, I had to do work arounds. And the form factor is simply much better than the folds. And you can get them, in a couple days!
    Even with the small annoyances(and the support is just as bad as with samsung, if you have a mechanical problem in my experience), it's going to be hard to consider another samsung device. It took me this long, to move from the ecosystem, and now that I have, I will probably keep moving..
