@@WickensWickedReptiles Great video. Can you type out the name of the red ones you saw on your trip? You said they're vocal, and I think they're beautiful. I'd like to get some.
Awesome video brother! Was super awesome seeing wild dart frogs last week! Can’t wait to implement some of the things I saw in Costa Rica into my scaping and I can’t wait for us to share our trip with the world!
noise making dart frogs are exactly what i didnt know i needed. i knew i needed some dart frogs... didnt know they made sounds and now i need those. also yes to Dart Frogs care guide!!!!
I live in Alaska, we have very cold temperatures and very low humidity and I still successfully keep my dart frogs 🥰 I have binder covers fitted to the top of my tank to keep the heat and humidity in
I’ll never get bored listening/watching people talk dart frogs. I’ve currently got azures and just got some bicolor and they behave so differently. My azures love climbing on this one branch and taking it in turns to jump before queuing back up to do it again 😂
To respond to your questions at end of video: Would really love some detailed care guides and highlights of specific species. I feel like why this doesnt have as many views is because there are many many “into to dart frog” type videos already that broadly touch on a lot of points. So a great video, but probably material people have seen. I think the in depth species highlights and care guides would get a lot more hits
Lastly (Don't wanna take over your chat!) I just wanted to say, the trip was really good for you bro. This video I felt your confidence pouring forth, talking about something you are super passionate about and I like your formatting changes. I would love to see more videos like this, where you take deep dives into specific species! And to that end, I cast my vote! I'd like to see you cover Antaresia snakes (Spotted pythons, Anthill pythons, Stimson's Pythons, Children's Pythons, Pygmy Pythons etc.), specifically the ones we can obtain and have here in North America (or in Canada). SITES is great for conservation, but I cry "I waaaaant!" every time I watch Critta Cam in Australia ;P
Great job Adam. I’d love to see you and Dav Kaufman do a “Are We Keeping Them Right” video on dart frogs. I really enjoyed your interactions on the Snake Discovery Build Off videos, and the two of you would make a great team with the oaf and the regular sized guy (I’m 5’6” as well, so that’s regular sized to me)
Dart frogs have been my favorite species to keep out of all my animals. I have had two little guys for two years. So fun to watch and build the vivs. I feel like the possibilities are endless with how you can provide unique enclosures for them. I would love to see you do a tutorial on how you set up and build your enclosures. I have build two vivs so far and I am always looking at videos to learn new techniques.
I really want a care guide, because everyone talks about how they're a challenging more advanced frog to keep, but everything I've found in researching them doesn't make them sound that difficult, and I want your take on them since youre honest about the amount of work involved with stuff.
They can be challenging the main thing is to avoid imported animals. The main ones offered as imports are the egg-eater types like pumilos but even auratus and some tincts are still imported. All frogs are more work since you just can't leave them for a month like a ball python and expect them to be fine. They require daily maintenance mind you plants really help keep the terrarium clean the more bio active the better! You just can't scoop their poop out of the cage very easy, so it is best to let nature take care of it. You also will have to learn to rear feeder insects which takes somewhat of a learning curve . Even the bigger species want small prey items so for the most part this means fruit flies. I found the apterus mutation to be very stable, of course if wild type flies get into your cultures you have the joy of coping the top to be greeted with a cloud of flies. Pin head crickets are ok but they will ignore larger small crickets. If you can find them termites are a great food. No self respecting Dendrobates will touch a meal worm of any size but Phyllobates bicolor has no problem eating them of course I even had them eat the dermestid beetle larvae that come in the cricket boxes.
Also - "Mine are up in the bromeliads here in my enclosures, and that is where I saw them in Costa Rica, in the wild, which means I'm doing it right" - Channelling your inner Dav Kaufmann I see! He'd be so proud Adam. So proud!
I would love a series like this! You could do microgeckos next, like indopacific and mourning geckos! I would love to see a series on herps that can be cohabbed, as that's really interesting to look at
Same, don't know if I'd like to risk even messing with these because they're poisonous. What if I accidentally touch them? What if they get out?? I know he said they weren't in captivity, but how can you be sure without risking your health?
I usually choose animals that can be handled safely, but dart frogs are definitely on my "want" list. Great video with beautiful footage. Also, glad to be on the very end of your Patreon list! Seems like I'm the newest one 😊
@@Gigachadly They're not poisonous in captivity. They are poisonous in the wild because of what they eat. The reason you don't handle them is because they are small and fragile.
@@mrfishman2u no actually the reason you are not supposed to handle them is because your not supposed to touch amphibious with your bare hands because they absorb things through their skin.

I am in AZ. My family wants a dart frog viv… how do you keep your frogs cool in the summer?? Our home is hot in the summer 82. We also do my very best to provide our pets with the best life. So as much as we want dart frogs- I worry the summer will be too stressful.
