  • Poison Dart Frogs are incredible frogs and one of the coolest amphibians in the world! Are Dart Frogs right for you, and what species of Poison Dart Frog is the best to keep? Let's go over why poison dart frogs are so darn wicked!
    CORRECTION - I said "Dendrobates pumilio" when really this species is now Oophaga pumilio. I am a silly goose and misspoke. The frogs have forgiven me and I hope you can too.

    I really want a care guide, because everyone talks about how they're a challenging more advanced frog to keep, but everything I've found in researching them doesn't make them sound that difficult, and I want your take on them since youre honest about the amount of work involved with stuff.

    • @sampagano205
      @sampagano205 2 года назад

      As for species to talk about, I think you should do Tincs because they seem like they're the most available dart frog species.

    • @brucebrazaitis321
      @brucebrazaitis321 2 года назад +1

      They can be challenging the main thing is to avoid imported animals. The main ones offered as imports are the egg-eater types like pumilos but even auratus and some tincts are still imported. All frogs are more work since you just can't leave them for a month like a ball python and expect them to be fine. They require daily maintenance mind you plants really help keep the terrarium clean the more bio active the better! You just can't scoop their poop out of the cage very easy, so it is best to let nature take care of it. You also will have to learn to rear feeder insects which takes somewhat of a learning curve . Even the bigger species want small prey items so for the most part this means fruit flies. I found the apterus mutation to be very stable, of course if wild type flies get into your cultures you have the joy of coping the top to be greeted with a cloud of flies. Pin head crickets are ok but they will ignore larger small crickets. If you can find them termites are a great food. No self respecting Dendrobates will touch a meal worm of any size but Phyllobates bicolor has no problem eating them of course I even had them eat the dermestid beetle larvae that come in the cricket boxes.

    To respond to your questions at end of video:
    Would really love some detailed care guides and highlights of specific species. I feel like why this doesnt have as many views is because there are many many “into to dart frog” type videos already that broadly touch on a lot of points. So a great video, but probably material people have seen. I think the in depth species highlights and care guides would get a lot more hits

    Honestly I enjoyed this video much more than I thought I would. Dart frogs have never really been a species I have had a strong desire to keep, but this was super cool! love the idea for the series. And I might have to look into getting some in the future. Nicely done sir!

    Loved this video! Nice change up! Reminded me of some of Dav Kaufman's when he used to travel. I hope you have a lot more Costa Rican footage to share in future videos!

    Love the lighting and background!!! You got some wicked shots of these frogs!! Assuming they are your enclosures which rock!!
    I’d love a care guide. I have to say I definitely am more attracted to the green ones ❤️

    Yes. Do it. I'm very curious and want some. Do deep dives on any reptile, amphibian or invertebrates I'll watch. I'm such a nerd for this stuff.

    With 10 aquariums going, I'm thinking about doing the dart frog thing in my 20g terrarium so a dart frog care episode would be fantastic! Might get a couple of fire-bellied newts also. Wonderful channel, chock full of info and nice visuals! Cheers from DC

    I really enjoyed this video. It’s very informative and now I am considering getting dart frogs at some point in the future. Of course I will research and all but the idea of having an enclosure with just jumping little things sounds like a cool idea. And they are so beautiful!

    My nephew actually had a couple dart frogs, he would always handle them with gloves when he had to clean out their enclosure ( this was like 15 plus years ago before natural enclosures were like a thing), and they actually lived for quite a while!

    Hey man just wanted to say - love the Discord. It's been great hanging with everyone and chatting about all the herps we keep (or wanna keep, seeing as I have 1 right now haha) Keep killing it Adam, and keep em high and tight! ;)

    Can you do a closer look on the current bioactive enclosure you have for your Dart Frogs? Similar to the video you did with the crested gecko? Just purchased a pair and i'm looking to go bioactive with them. Thanks for being the cats pajamas and keeping us repti-weirdos entertained and educated!
