Wonderful lesson. You’re giving us some fantastic stuff to work on here - and not too much of it. The explanation behind what Barney is doing with these riffs is super helpful.
Re: Grabtown solo and Bebop -- It's hard to know what happened since the creation of most post-war jazz occurred during the WWII recording bans. Kessel played on Parker's Relaxin' At Camarillo. You did a really good job of breaking down his ideas including your explanation of the harmonies on this solo especially that Monk-ish flat 9/sharp 11tth chord arpeggio.

Thanks Matthew. It's a very short, but wonderful solo :)
Nice way of playing broken 3rds without it sounding overly 3rd-like. Thanks!
It really is a neat move.

Thanks! There's certainly a lot of recordings from that era where the wrong players are listed on the album sleeve.
Great vid🎉
Thank you 🙏
Real nice and super cool😊
Thanks
Barney always brought out his Charlie Christian influence in interesting ways while adding his own touch
Agreed, he didn’t just imitate him, he also put his own stamp on it.
Ignore the chords, I most definitely will not be able to sleep.
Lol 😂
