"Blackbeard" seems to be a new moniker, up until he left Whitebeard's crew he was just Marshall D. Teach
This is it
plus do you think like the random nobodies in the past pirate crews weve seen have individual bounties?
9:12 it's worth mentioning that Robin also has a higher bounty than Bellamy
18:05 it's a great minor detail to point out that the first thing Sengoku does on his debut appearance is call Doflamingo scum.
That is so amazing in hindsight!
At first I was like what are you talking about but then it hit me and now I'm a wreck so thank you for that
I dont understand what's the reference here?
@@mamiktaipodia-0441 Intentionally vague minor spoiler...
We find out in Dressrosa that both Doflamingo and Sengoku knew a certain person in the past, and both treated that person like family.
One of the most clever parts of the live action is they referenced the forest here where the birds sent the pigs after them. In the Baratie when Zeff said to Garp they hunted the wild boars of Jaya. Very very clever attention to detail.
Plus more obviously when Zoro was passed out Nami read Nolan's book to him in the live action
Even I didn't notice that! That's awesome!!
Didn't Zeff say, it was the last? So That one probably was a different species.
The live action was sooo good. I noticed all this too and I love how much effort and the details they added to flesh the world out more.
Sadly most reactors never remember the Nolan story or Jaya being mentioned by the time they get here... But that's to be expected after near 150 episodes.
By "most clever", if being objective, you'd mean "breaking the rules of how the one piece world works" then I'd agree. Making stuff up that wouldn't make sense in a world where every island is so isolated it can even remain in the dinosaur age, and neither info nor people actually are able to traverse between islands except top tier pirates and the marines. The live action fucked with how the world is set up so much just for the sake of "references" and convenience (like including neon light in a world without electricity, it's only existed by non-devil fruit means on 1 island up to date).
@@tobiaswedin what are you talking about bro. Zeff is a grand line pirate. he can traverse islands of the grand line to get to Jaya. Also there is electricity in one piece, as noted by [redacted for future spoilers but promise at least 3 islands with electricity I can name as of chapter 1112]. stop being a crybaby
"i hate her why is she on the boat"
"HOW IS SHE NOT QUEEN OF THE PIRATES"
Evolution at its finest
Also just for context, luffy defeating crocodile was never reported in the Newspaper, the credit was given to smoker because the government didn't want the world finding out a pirate took down a warlord... Then smoker told them to eat shit xD
Smoker for Fleet Admiral!
Don't forget to cast your vote!
I can't blame him...its Robin!
finally, it took a while, but she managed to convince him lie the rest of the crew c:
@@furicuri3I already voted for Jango
Luffy's epic one shot, Mihawk and Shanks returning, the introduction to some of the most important characters in One Piece, in Doflamingo, Kuma, Sengoku, Gorosei, White Beard, Blackbeard. ALL IN ONE EPISODE. To this day 151 blows my mind with how much it revealed.
It's great the first time you watch it, and even greater any subsequent time watching it.
Blackbeard will be explained in time. For now, you know that the World Government and the Marines didn't know of him despite being on Whitebeard's crew, and you know why he left that crew and why Ace is hunting him. You also spotted that his crew mirrors Luffy's crew in some ways, and you saw how he and Luffy were opposites in taste in the bar but similar in terms of daring to dream.
Oda builds stories that don't pay off for years, or even decades.
Also he started calling himself Blackbeard after defecting the crew
@@_DZ_Yeah, I expect that Sengoku might have heard of 'Marshall D. Teach', just not of 'Blackbeard'
I love how blacbeard is evil luffy. they have simialr approaches to life and similar ideals, blacbeard's just smarter (cause a dumb villain wouldn't be that effective), has different tastes in food, is older and fatter and is a lot more cruel.
Nerdy- " I just want to watch him clock bellami"
Luffy-" you asked if I know how to throw a punch 👊"
The connecting of dots that leads to Blackbeard’s reveal is a masterpiece.
its so great, just a masterful build up to THE reveal
Luffy beating Crocodile didn’t make the news because the World Government covered it up by giving Smoker credit so no one will look down on the Warlords.
the lore drops in this show are insane
I've always felt episode 151 is the episode Oda really started to cook. I mean he's simmering for a while but after that punch he brought the world building up to a boil
I might have said this on another video already but I'm feeling maximum vindicating with how much you enjoy Jaya. When Alabasta was dragging you down at the end I said that Jaya would be right down your alley. So glad to see I was right and that you're enjoying the show again, Nerdy!
Just want to say Nerdy that after watching a lot of react content for a while your and your wife’s reactions and breakdowns are often the highlight of my day! I love your One Piece reactions especially as you often bring up points I never thought about upon my first or second runs or even now. I can’t afford to support you on patroon but I hope you know you’re doing great stuff!
9:05 doffy laugh
fr i was thinking that
What's awesome about Luffy One Hit Ko-ing Bellamy is he doesn't even use his devil Fruit powers. That was just a solid punch right to the face!
Blackbeard was a nobody on Whitebeard's crew. He was the lowest of low-deckhands. The WG only cares about the higher-ups.
Blackbeard was not called Blackbeard when he was in Whitebeard's crew. He was just 'Marshall D. Teach'. So it makes sense that Sengoku didn't know who Blackbeard was.
Blackbeard was hiding he didnt even have a bounty. That was also why he wanted someone worth 100mil to increase his fame.
Welcome to the "lore/name drop" episodes! I ADORE these so much and always look forward to them!
Didn't stretch, didn't name his punch, just waited. That is _easily_ in my top five of most satisfying punches in the series. And I'm caught up in the manga.
The only way anyone would know that the Straw Hats took down Crocodile is through underground information. The government is covering it up so it wouldn't be in the paper.
Kuma is my favorite of the Warlords
i forgot how hard this second episode pops off, its so good
Crazy that 151 has the Bellamy beat down and also introduces three of the best characters in the whole series
Nerdy, you are spot on with stuff you said here at the end. really really good attention to detail
Your reaction when Blackbeard was revealed: Beautiful, gorgeous, flawless, perfect
Fun fact: In the manga, Bellamy never landed a single blow on Luffy. That hit on Luffy was anime only. So in the manga, Luffy beat him down even harder!
Still in my top 3 One Piece Moments to this day...
Those pirates being confused about Luffy's new bounty makes sense. There wouldn't be anything about Luffy in the newspaper because the World Government covered up his involvement in Alabasta.
“I want him to just wallop Bellamy”
Your wish is granted
This was a joy to watch. Seeing Bellemy get one-shoted... ... The Five Elder Stars... the reveal of the other few Warlords... Whitebeard... Blackbeard.
And yes, this was about 3 years into the series. The One Piece anime started in 1999 and this arc was around 2001 or 2002. The chapter where we got all the big reveals was Chapter 225 in the manga. This is the first time we get to see the characters who are at the tops of the world.
Bold of you to assume Robin is not Queen of the Pirates.
This episode is the main reason Jaya is one of my favourite arcs! It obviously can't compete with some of the longer arcs, but damn, especially on a rewatch/reread it is fantastic!
One of the great things about One Piece is you get a lot of the world building outside of the strawhats in the inbetween/cooldown arcs. That even thought the strawhats are so great you really get a scale of just how big the world around them is that they aren't even contending with yet. And as you slowly watch them progress to those levels.
14:32 two page for that scene in the manga w
So much in that EP 151 right? RIGHT!? OH YEAH!! Let's "NOTE" time!!
1) Blackbeard pirates are inspired from "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen"
2) Seven lords have something in common:
-Mihawk = hawk
-Crocodile = Crocodile
-Doflamingo = Flamingo
-Kuma = bear (Also Kuma its bear in japanese)
The seven lords are based on animals so what could be looks the other 3? w
3) Whitebeard love leopard boots (confirmed by Oda on SBS corner of the manga) SBS is "Shitsumon o Boshū Suru "I'm Taking Questions"
We'll get there to the one place everyone in this arc is relevant for the next entirety
Let me put it to you like this. Imagine running through the starting areas of Dark Souls/Elden Ring on NG+ at level 150. Blackbeard is on NG+ in the Grand Line.
White beard crew is ginormous. The government wouldn't know every single one in his crew
I was just about to say this. Thank you Hahhaha
True! And Teach layed low on top of that. iirc
I think maybe the government did know of a pirate called 'Marshall D. Teach', just not of 'Blackbeard', because Teach has only recently started calling himself that.
I love when Luffy gets a power up then just wipes someone who wasn't expecting him.
confusion is normal in one piece eventually you get the ah ha moment where things click
Robin caught the southbird like a pokemon xD
it makes sense that the world government didn't know who teach was. a small spoiler: the whitebeard pirates are divided up into divisions and each division is headed up by a commander. while there are hundreds of members of the crew, only whitebeard and his division commanders were consider noteworthy. teach wasn't a commander and thus, was relatively unknown. the only thing he and his crew did was the attack on drum island and very few people actually know that it happened. hence why sengoku was so dismissive of teach taking croc's place as a warlord, since the warlords keep the lower pirates in line just from the rep they had as active pirates. and teach was a unknown at the time.
The wrestling comparisons isn’t a phase it’s an integral part of character intros and personalities
The real Blackbeard's (Edward Teach) name is split between Whitebeard (Edward Newgate) and Blackbeard( Marshal D Teach). Also Whitebeard was Gol D Roger's rival and now that Roger isn't alive anymore he is top dog.
20:38 This is the "they" not "him" Luffy and Zorro were talking about after Blackbeard talked about dreams to Luffy
fun fact: given how names work in one piece and we don't see anyone else called 'sir' in a way to suggest our concept of knighting is a thing here, I beleive Sir Crocodile is just Crocodiles full name. Meaning his surname is....Sir.
Oda's mind is an enigma.
Oda was a fan of a specific wrestling federation in japan that featured some names like Terry + Dory Funk, Mick Foley, Tiger Jeet Singh, and Abdullah the Butcher who all have namesakes or direct character references in One Piece.
My God, Kuma.😭😭😭
This man broke me to little pieces for days.
Laffit is Zoro's equivalent I suspect. As soon as I saw him I was certain he has a sword in his cane.
Also, White Beard's crew is so big he needs division commanders. Maybe that's why someone who isn't high up isn't under the radar.
You know who's zoro's equivalent. We will meet him later. But if you are not at that yet then no need to take this seriously.
@@sinwinder At this point, Teach's crew is a mirror of the straw hats. Spoiler:
Both crews gain another swordsman in Shiryuu and Brook. But at this point, my genuine thought was that Laffit is a swordsman and the only current member who's a mirror for Zoro. Peacekeeper whole Zoro was a Pirate Hunter. You know?
Laffit is def more along the lines of brooks equivalent
Shiryu is more likely to be zoros
You're lost on the Whitebeard/Blackbeard situation by design. It'll all make sense at some point.
I was about to rewatch One piece again, granted its not over yet, but then I saw your video when Sanji was introduced so I decided to follow along for the journey once again. But this time, together with you. And I´ve been loving the commentary from you, even though I might be screaming a bit when I dont agree with you. Keep it up, The story is amazing!
Pay attention to the two new warlords that was introduced….
the second most satisfying punch by Luffy in One Piece.
I think the best thing about whitebeard is how his 'pirate nickname' or whatever you'd call it (much like 'strawhat' luffy or "kuro of the thousand plans') isn't anythig ridiculous or descriptive. it's smply "the world's stongest man'. THAT"S such a cool way to casually build up a dude. Like, if its true, IMAGINE.
Second half of 151 is such a important part for the world building. Sometimes at the end of a ark or even a couple episodes betwin arks Oda likes to make a big Info dump on the world building and some of those or better and more important then the arks that are before or after. Usualy when the ark finish the community is on fire becouse whe find out how the bounties have changed and how the marines are moving independently from the straw hat or the events they are. It makes the world feel so alive.
Blackbeard is a literal nobody at this point….. he was just a member of the Whitebeard pirates under the division Ace was leading who killed a fellow crew mate. I don’t think anyone knows/recognizes him besides the Whitebeard pirates. Also don’t forget he destroyed Drum Island and Ace was searching for him but that’s about it.
He wasn't even called Blackbeard when on Whitebeard's crew.
@@apoptosisduellinks109 Really ? 🤔 I remember Ace only referring to him as ‘Blackbeard’
@@donotdisturb5286 I'm not sure. Anyway, when we heard Ace refer to Teach as Blackbeard, Teach had already left Whitebeard's crew, right? And (spoiler:) Ace knew Teach calls himself Blackbeard now: when Ace met Blackbeard for the final time he said 'Hey Teach! Or should I call you Blackbeard now?' or something like that.
Luffy punching Bellamy is maybe top five blows in the whole series for me.
one of the funniest and coolest One Piece scenes, he just one hit Bellamy, to show him how to throw a punch XD.
and then: Where do you want to go?
Luffy: to the sky xD
The way I see it is that White beard had so many monsters on his crew that Black Beard was just not important enough to keep track of.
I do agree it makes the WG look bad that they let BB go unnoticed for so long.
Now I want to know what the "new stuff" was that Nerdy saw.
One Piece is a (mostly) weekly production, and currently some of the best animation out there.
Blackboard didn't go by that name when he was apart of Whitebeards crew. He just went by Marshall D Teach. Now that he is trying to make a name for himself, he uses Blackbeard
Blackbeard was just one of the many, many members of Whitebeard crew before he left them. At that point he probably hadn't done anything worth of notice for the Navy high ranks, and they need someone more recognizable as a Warlord.
Finally we get to some world building! Trust me, if you think the second half of the episode was crazy, you haven't seen anything. This is One Piece's greatest strength, it only gets crazier from here!
to explain about blackbeard: on whitebeard's crew ihe was essentially equivalent to one of those random mooks you saw in say Kuro or Don Krieg's crew. Like, as an individual pirate he's not well known cause his crew is tiny and apart from the attack on drum kingdom they haven't done like much notable. Only the pirate leaders get the fame and bounties, cause they're the big hitters and the ones in charge.
Blackbeard is a literal NOBODY to the world, hence his bounty is LITERALLY ZERO.
Welcome to Lore Piece, you have reached the first station in Lore Piece, hope you enjoy your trip!.
yeeeahhh baby!!!! episode 151 is legendary for a reason!! :D the satisfying one-punch-k.o, seeing whitebeard for the first time (holy shit!!), seeing shanks on the move, getting the reveal that the weird cherry-pie dude who talked about dreams was blackbeard, who we've heard has comitted some awful crimes against innocent people and his own crewmember... oh right, and the identity of 2 more warlords!! the five elder stars!! holy shit thats more than i thought it was when i started writing this comment. damn.
im glad you enjoyed! its good to keep these worldbuildy-things in mind that happen outside of what the strawhats are doing - like shanks planning to meet with whitebeard in person or blackbeard being on the move to get into the warlords. those parts of the story usually move pretty slowly considering like 50 episodes can span over only 1 day in the story, but remembering them is very satisfying when they come up again and when they will inevitably also affect luffy and crew.
I love how they tied together the fact that no one but the people involved and the marine/other warlords know Luffy is the one who beat Crocodile with the Bellamy stuff. Not believing Luffy's bounty makes complete sense, not only because he let himself get beat up, but because it's almost impossible for someone with a 100 million berry bounty at this stage of the grand line not to be famous for a huge incident and Luffy isn't. The marine doesn't give out 100+ million berry bounties like candy this early in the grand line. There are very few of those.
"Oh he's a big man" Yep, around 7 meters tall. And he's not even a giant, he's genuinely human. Although people suspect the insanely tall people like WB might have giant blood in their ancestry but that's not confirmed, it's just a headcanon.
Whitebeard literally has thousands of pirates under his command. Ace is the commander of a fleet in WB's crew remember. Some of the WB's pirates aren't very well known and BB was one of them. Since he was under Ace's command, that means he wasn't even an officer like Ace so if he stayed low profile, the marines wouldn't have had reasons (or the resources) to keep tabs on him. It's very hard to keep tab on every unremarkable pirate out there. Generally speaking, it's not just about Whitebeard either, there are too many pirates in strong crews for the navy to keep up with, that's just not realistically feasible.
There's a running theme of the marines being seriously understaffed for their job, that's the whole reason they have a Warlord system in the first place. This is the great pirate era, there's as many pirates on the sea as there are stars in the sky.
"If BB betrayed WB's crew it would be news" not really. How would the world and the marine even know about that? It's not like WB or Ace are gonna answer their questions. The marines probably noticed that Ace was doing something weird and roaming the grand line but they likely don't know why. The marines do spy on WB as proven by this episode, but they have to do so from a distance, WB wouldn't tolerate it otherwise.
Yo, you are already in Jaya?! So fast!! I missed all of your Alabasta reactions! gonna binge them now 😂
"Of all the characters in one piece he is the most 90/80's WWE wrestler" Dood you could do like a tierlist reaction podcast
Lore, One Piece Lore, that's a lot of very relevant information for the future. You must remember that not everybody in a Pirate's crew is relevant unless you are near the boss or comit a lot of crimes. Só it seems that by now, Blackbeard hasn't made a name for himself although he was a part of Whitebeard's crew, namely being Ace's subordinate.
Yeah, the second half of this ep was crazy with info
This was the second most satisfying Punsh in History
Robin's real super power as a new team member is that she is not a teenager.
Many Characters in OP are a Lot Taller than what the Anime portrays e.g. Whitebeard is 21'10". tall (666cm) while Blackbeard Pirates ranges from 11'2" - 11'8" (340cm - 355cm)
I think its ok to say that luffy has not change almost nothing from the beggining, we have seen how he became the person he is by his past but he its the same as he was when he leave his village, he always knew he needed a crew, and he was not sure how he was going to get it but he knew he need it people as much as he was willing to do anything he was able to save his members or not letting his members be disrespected
The episode is called world greatest power for a reason
Luffy's best beatdown *so far*
Toothless the MVP happy to see Toothless make his appearance. all hail Toothless (this nickname will stick for me)
Yes! Don't forget these new and very important characters!
I started watching in 2007 and I believe they were in the early 300's I was only 23 years old and been caught up ever since then I am 38 now crazy lol.
It is one of the biggest (name drops) of the entire show, so many new players being shown in one go :P
Not everyone has as small of a crew as Luffy. Can’t keep track of every person in an army.
Blackbeard being a D. is almost never acknowledged by a lot of reactors. They most of the time don't see it or don't process the implication, I wonder if it's because this episode was absolutely wild. Happy you enjoyed it and saw a part of the worldbuilding
The next arc halfway is when I first binged One Piece and that was around 2003, so your calculations are not too far off!
Not to often we get a special punch from lufy where he doesn’t use his df
Luffy absulutly annihilating Bellamy is still one of THE OP moments for me.
To play devil's advocate with Bellamy not believing in Luffy and Zoro's bounties; it was their "efforts" in Alabasta that earned them that amount and nothing about their involvement was ever published. Everything about the Straw Hats was hushed out of the news papers!
Some of those pressing questions. We still wait for some of those answers to this day, in a good way.
fun fact: whitebeard's name is both right and wrong. in japanese, his name is "shirohege". "shiro" means "white" while "hege" means.........well, it's sort complicated. you see, hege is a catchall term for any kind of facial hair: mustaches, goatees, sideburns, and beards. so the literal translation of his name is "white facial hair". someone pointed this out and oda himself said that the english name, "whitebeard" is the correct name for him, since he was going for the whole "whitebeard/blackbeard" thing.
The thing with Blackbeard is explained later on, but just know he is a serious deal
Blackbeard is a no one, no bounty and was 1 of hundreds of Whitebeard crew, yes HUNDREDS and I am not counting his Allied Pirates
the most satisfying punch so far
lore drops getting insane 🫨
One punch and that’s it lol. Most satisfying punch in this series or one of them.
There is one better I think: how to not spoil ... the one that was black and white :)
13:03 one thing One Piece does very well is make you want certain characters to get punched in the face....and then has Luffy deliver on it!
Now that you know who Blackbeard is, I will once again recommend watching the English version of this opening, and Blackbeard's speech in English. The song is just SOOOOO singable, and the speech is slightly different.
I drove all niiiiiightttt to getttt to youuuu, absolute class. You’re a real one (but we’re talking about Roy Orbison’s here right? Right?)
probably one of the most important episodes for the grand plot so far
And imagine this. Here is something important that almost, or nobody noticed until it was reviled just recently in manga.
that punch is one luffy's greatest punches. BUT, it's not the ONLY greatest punch from you'll see :3
BB lore will come soon. Dont forget him 🐐
one of the best Luffy moments
World building at its finest.
Blackbeard was part of Whitebeard's crew, but he wasn't a commander like Ace so he wasn't as well known.
Blackbeard wasn't part of Whitebeard's crew, Marshall D. Teach was.
