This was fun to see! Thanks for sharing Evan!
Great video, thanks! I'm working on setting up my XH-2s, and this is really good info.
Wow what a setup!! Looking great, thanks for sharing.
Thanks! It’s been working great.
GEEEARRRRRRRRR!!!! 😍 such a beautiful setup Evan!
A little bit of everything! 😂
Love the fact that the Tilta cage leaves the hot shoe usable. I shoot both stills and video and the TTL flash, or remote flash trigger is a mandatory feature for me. Thanks for a great review and excellent collection of the kit.
Yes, love that too! Happy to help.
This is a really really clean setup. Love it
Thank you!
Dude, this is PERFECT. Just got an XH2S and need to get a rig setup. Thank you!
Happy to help!
Epic rig so far love itt
Yup I'm pretty stoked with it, can't wait to put in some work with it
solid build!
Honored to receive the rig daddy seal of approval 🫡
Nice build man!
Thank you!
Amazed
I’ve been using Fuji for the past 6+ yrs now and I love it. Just got my xh2s for video work and so far I like it. Although I just had a shoot in which I used my ninja v to record 4k and was getting dropped frames and I’m trying to troubleshoot it, wondering if you’ve ever come across anything like that?
On another note, I’m glad to see more channels that use Fuji because it’s not many of us out there lol.
4:57 thanks for the video! I wished there was a third locking point too. So far i’v found that a twist tie (like a bread one) threaded through the right hand x-h2s strap lug, then around the metal bar of the cage in line with the iso button, twisted finger tight, locks the body into cage really tight, feels a bunch nicer to me. Cheers
That’s a great idea. I’ll have to try that out! Thanks for the tip.
Beautiful set up.
Thanks!
@@EvanSchneider you’re more than welcome
Yeah looks good
Nice!
Thanks!
Love this setup. Can the XH2s output settings on clean feed on the external monitor??
No unfortunately not. One of my top feature requests for sure. You have to choose between clean feed and display mirroring, and display mirror is in significantly lower resolution.
Nice build! Have you ever tried one of the arca Swiss smallrig cages in this baseplate? Curious if its compatible
I haven’t. Not sure if it would work…
Thank you Evan for this awesome review and rig! Can I use the LWS baseplate with a smallrig cage as well or is the Arca Swiss Mount on the tilta something custom to keep it in place on the baseplate?
Hmmmm, it is a standard Arca Swiss mount on the cage that slides into the baseplate, so in theory it should work... there is a locking pin that keeps it in place on the baseplate, so there may be compatibility issues there.
hello sir just wanted to ask you if the X-H2S ever gets the white balance off with you when setting WB manually , because i always get a shift when i set it manually
Hey Evan, great content, where do you get the red shutter button for your Xh2s?
Amazon! Search for adhesive red shutter button.
Gracias.
I build very similarly after this video and had two questions for you:
The smallrig adapter for the monitor, mine constantly doesn’t stay tight on the handle. The monitor (without battery) always shifts a bit and makes it very loose. Do you still use this arm, or have you found better adapters for monitor to this handle?
Secondly, do you also find the back rear rail lock rubs on the rear of the tilta cage?
Yeah, my rail lock rubs a little bit too, but not much to be annoying. My monitor adapter is made by Andycine but it kinda sucks too. I know wooden camera makes nice ones. I still like the cold shoe mounts over an arm because they're still easier to adjust. Hope this helps.
Hi Evan, great video thank you I’m in the process of buying an X-H2S. Please could you tell me what lens you have attached in the video, ( and why) and is that’s ND system on the front? T.I.A David
Hey, thanks! The lens is the Sigma Art 18-35 f1.8 with the Fringer EF-FX Pro II adapter. The ND is the Peter McKinnon VND 2-5/6-9 stop.
Very nice set up.. just want to ask, what is that lens did you use together with the XH2S?
Most of the time I use the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 with the Fringer EF to FX II adapter.
Hey man , thanks for the informative content , really helpful. I have a question about the fujifilm xh2s, would you happen to know if there are any problems when recording braw with the camera ? And in addition , depending on the quality of the image 4K or 6k , how long would you say one could film with a 512 GB card ? Thanks in advance
I haven't done any testing with braw on the X-H2s but I know Joshua at Cinedailies has a video about it on his channel. On a 512 GB card recording ProRes HQ at UHD 23.98p I get 1h21m and at 6.2K 23.98p I get 25m. Recording at ProRes422 gives me a bit more recording time than those.
@@EvanSchneider thanks for the reply man , appreciate it , yeah I saw his vid he was having some troubles with the external monitor receiving the braw … mmm decisions haha
It looks like I found my setup, thanks 😊 Quick question: what lens is it on your X-H2S?
Awesome! That lens is the Sigma Art 18-36 1.8 EF mount adapted to x mount with the Fringer EF-FX Pro
@@EvanSchneider Thanks for the answer. It looks phenomenal
Does the Wooden handle sit in the cold shoe portion of the Tilta cage or does it fit just off center on the nato rail?
I have it mounted on the nato rail in the center. You can slide it left or right on the rail depending on your setup
Hey man, great video. I’m struggling with the battery door for the dummy battery. How did you actually manage to close the door if you don’t mind sharing. Thanks
haha, I feel your pain. I just keep the battery door open. It's pretty protected by this cage so I feel comfortable with it, unless I'm shooting in wet conditions then I'll have to figure something out. Probably just put some tape over it or something?
@@EvanSchneider Yeah, I figured. At least the dummy battery is fairly light so I don't think it would fall. Thanks for replying man.
Why instead of a dummy battery didn't you choose to power through the USB-C port? Any good reason?
@@CD-PA Not as reliable as the dummy battery. But that could work too
@@GiulioMeliani oh I didn't know that. Thanks for the answer.
sorry can you explain why you would turn ibis off?
Great video! This baseplate is for bmpcc6k pro?
It can be used for other camera cages from Tilta, doesn't have to be the 6K Pro. So it still works.
@@EvanSchneider nice!)
Nice gear set! Do your XH2s have overheating problems when shooting longtime(>6hrs) 4k60 videos? Mine got serious overheating issue🥲
I've never shot that long with those specs, and likely never will. That's pretty intense hahaha
You beat me to it! 😂
haha, looking forward to seeing yours
Have you been able to find a matte box and 15mm rail lens support that fits this setup? I have tried a few different options from Tilta and SmallRig with no luck. They are either too short or too tall for the lens and matte box to filter properly.
I haven’t tried a matte box on it yet. Have you checked out the ones that attach directly to the lens like the PolarPro Basecamp?
That one also comes with an adjustable rail mount
Is there any flex with the arca baseplate attachment? I had an arca quick release on my smallrig setup but there was too much flex so the follow focus kept slipping.
Nope, the arca baseplate is super sturdy, no flex there.
Hey Evan, nice build, I'm almost done with my rig, ordered a dummy battery however the battery door won't close. I noticed you have it open as well. You ever had issues with it staying open while shooting?
I’ve never had any issues with it staying open. I actually wrongly assumed I could just remove the door when using the dummy battery. Just have to be more careful not to get it wet if you’re shooting outside or rely on the weather proofing.
@@EvanSchneider Ok Thanks! Also quick question. I did watch your podcast with @CineDailies and got a bit confused about a better way to convert Flog 2 to rec.709. I also use Davinci and as you know it does not yet support Flog 2 in its colour transform tool. So should I just use fuji Flog 2 Lut or just select Flog option that they do have in Davinci, or both? I am a bit new to professional colour grading.
@@AlexanderSopkins8 I have a LUT pack specifically for F-Log2 that makes it super easy: lutcompany.com/store/fujifilm-f-log-to-rec709-creative-luts
In Resolve, I wouldn't recommend using the F-Log CST because you won't be getting as much out of the footage. If you want a free method, you can download Fuji's conversion LUTs from their website. They will still require some finessing after applying to get them to look good, but it'll get you close. fujifilm-x.com/en-us/support/download/lut/
@@EvanSchneider ok, thanks again!
On paper this camera incredible spec’ed, it even have more features than fx30, better DR, 6k, open gate, Super fast rolling shutter performance, less crop at 4K120, internal prores + braw to hdmi.. why isnt it the most hyped camera? Like fx30, bmpcc6k
Totally agree! People are nervous to jump to Fuji, less common lens mount, and body style. I think those are the main reasons. Lots of folks are missing out on an incredible camera and don’t realize it!
Hi i saw you are using the smallrig dummy battery. are you able to fully close the battery door?
No, I’m not able to close the door. In most cases, it doesn’t bother me and it’s worth the trade off. I think there might be a hack to get it to close.
Can you charge the battery with the plate or need a separate charger? Sorry if it’s a dumb question but would really appreciate the help.
Charge the v mount battery? You charge that separately, they come with a basic charger or you can buy a v mount base charger for multiple batteries
Hi, you think you could achieve this same image quality with the xh2?? Or xh2s is more "cinematic "
The X-H2s is definitely more for video. X-H2 can still achieve cinematic quality though.
Hello , How to connect Sigma 18-35 to my Fuji X-H2 , name adapter , thank you
I use the Fringer EF-FX Pro II adapter. Link is in description.
Hm, so I’m assuming the small rig Nato top handle be able to slide onto this cage like your Wooden Camera top handle. Would that be right? Lol
Yes, I believe most, if not all, nato rails are universal!
Hi! Have you noticed any problems with accessing PASM dial with this cage?
It’s a little trickier but not bad. I don’t switch modes very often though.
Do you have a solution to quickly moving the camera to a gimbal using this cage?
The body can slide out from the bottom rail mount pretty easily via arcaswiss, so you could put an arcaswiss plate on your gimbal too
5:00 - That's a deal-breaker for Steadicam, as there's absolutely no room for jiggle, especially because [please correct me if I'm wrong] there's only one hole available to screw the cage into the gimbal.
I'm struggling to see how a solo operator would use a V-Mount battery with XLR audio (unless pressing REC 2x times, using timecode, and an audio bag)...
I'd still use it on a steadicam, it's still very sturdy with the cage. The one hole I was referring to was just one of the locking pins into the bottom of the camera. There are multiple mounting holes on the bottom of the cage. I've mounted a tascam recorder to the cage before, and have no issue pressing record twice as a solo operator. Then it's a simple waveform sync in Resolve in post. But everyone has their own preferences.
@@EvanSchneider I see. Thanks for the input.
Can you share the advantage to turning off IBIS?
It's a personal preference. If I don't have to use it, I turn it off to avoid the wobbly effect and random jitter that it oftentimes gives.
Love it. If you ever want to sell the monitor, please let me know!!
Thanks man! I’ll keep that in mind!
Heads up - under your gear list I could only get your ND filter affiliate link to work.
Ah thanks for the heads up! I'll get those sorted out.
Have you gotten around to trying raw on this camera
I haven't yet. I probably won't ever, it's not really worth it for me. F-Log2 is great for me. Cinedailies made a video about it though if you want to check it out: ruclips.net/video/MHTIMVuj150/видео.html
First 😊
