All of the footage of it looks like it was created using CGI or was filmed underwater. The movement of the fabric is so ethereal it's unreal.

I’ve been know to shrink in terror before steeling myself to cut costly goods. Those driveway pics are every girls dream of wearing a fancy ball gown. The amount of core strength needed to twirl the entire thing around as you did at the end is just amazing. I know the fabric is really lightweight but still, with the understructure, it just looks like a beast to walk in. Love love love it

Okay I’m guessing you never would- but hypothetically, if someone commissioned you to make this whole dress for them, how much would that cost?? I definitely would never be able to afford it (quality and detail like this deserves to be paid for and would surely cost thousands of dollars) but I AM morbidly curious of how much I would hypothetically have to save up in order to wear a gown like this 😂 💕
The fabric alone is easily 10,000 dollars, plus it took 18 tailors 500 hours, so for her alone it could take 9,000 hours for her alone to make it. Even by minimum wage, not even counting cost of fabric, that is 45,000 dollars. If you want $20 per hour of work, that's 180,000 dollars. So you're looking at a dress that is the cost of a middle class house in suburbia.

I keep replaying the bit where you're running. The ripple effect in the skirt is SO beautiful - and it looks just like it did in the movie, that shot of her running out! That fabric really is dreamy and you did such a wonderful job in the skirt. Dying the white fabric underneath the iridescent layer was a genius idea, it really does look a thousand times better!

THAT IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL GOWN!!! I hate to admit this, but I wanted the skirt of my wedding gown to be similar to this. I didn't want to use the "Southern Belle" kind of hoops that the shop person kept telling me would work . It had 4 levels of bone and wasn't very adjustable. I wanted it to swish and swing when I danced. I found a gown that was beautiful, expensive and I tried not to buy it, but my mom saw my eyes when I put it on and knew we were done shopping. The gown, alone, cost $800. I know that's nothing by today's standards, but it was 1981 and the shops had lots of knock offs of Princess Diana's gown at the time. $800 w/o a veil! My mother loved to sew and on my final fitting my mom shows up with this huge box , I opened it to a beautiful multi layered crinoline underskirt that pushed my skirt out and gave it a swing. I was thrilled. It did not have as many layers as your gown! But she did all of the work. and did a triple layer veil. I was so happy swishing around with my gown during the dancing. The dress lasted longer than the marriage, but it is still a beautiful memory. Years later, I wore a tank dress with a jacket & walked into a JP's office to marry the man I've been with for 30 yrs. Go figure.
I admire your dedication even while I question your sanity. I would love to see yumisima in a range of costuming but I can envision it more readily in stage props...simulated flame, the wisp of an illuminated ghost, etc.
That fabric is so beautiful and flowy, it looks gorgeous but from experience sewing I know it must have sucked to sew and cut, I admire your perseverance!!

I remember seeing the movie and falling madly in love with this dress. I saw your first version on Etsy I think or maybe Pinterest and wanted to try to make one myself. Being in college, I had no budget but I put one together for myself. It's nowhere near as gorgeous as this but seeing this video so many years later inspires me to keep crafting. Even if I still can't afford that fabric 🤣
When I don't have access to online ordering or anything like that and I have to get something that looks like crystals, I take those fake diamonds from the old clothes that don't fit me anymore and collect them for a project and the fabric that is leftover, I make it as a moke up fabric for my coming up projects so I don't waste things which I could use over and over again. I know totally out of topic. 😁😅

I hate to admit this, but I wanted the skirt of my wedding gown to be similar to this. I didn't want to use the "Southern Belle" kind of hoops that the shop person kept telling me would work . It had 4 levels of bone and wasn't very adjustable. I wanted it to swish and swing when I danced. I found a gown that was beautiful, expensive and I tried not to buy it, but my mom saw my eyes when I put it on and knew we were done shopping. The gown, alone, cost $800. I know that's nothing by today's standards, but it was 1981 and the shops had lots of knock offs of Princess Diana's gown at the time. $800 w/o a veil!
My mother loved to sew and on my final fitting my mom shows up with this huge box , I opened it to a beautiful multi layered crinoline underskirt that pushed my skirt out and gave it a swing. I was thrilled. It did not have as many layers as your gown! But she did all of the work. and did a triple layer veil. I was so happy swishing around with my gown during the dancing. The dress lasted longer than the marriage, but it is still a beautiful memory. Years later, I wore a tank dress with a jacket & walked into a JP's office to marry the man I've been with for 30 yrs. Go figure.

I admire your dedication even while I question your sanity. I would love to see yumisima in a range of costuming but I can envision it more readily in stage props...simulated flame, the wisp of an illuminated ghost, etc.
That fabric is so beautiful and flowy, it looks gorgeous but from experience sewing I know it must have sucked to sew and cut, I admire your perseverance!!

I remember seeing the movie and falling madly in love with this dress. I saw your first version on Etsy I think or maybe Pinterest and wanted to try to make one myself. Being in college, I had no budget but I put one together for myself. It's nowhere near as gorgeous as this but seeing this video so many years later inspires me to keep crafting. Even if I still can't afford that fabric 🤣
After watching all videos on this project, develop a appreciation for beautiful custom costumes. The amount work putting into this dress is amazing.
It is so satisfying when you roll out the fabric.
When I don't have access to online ordering or anything like that and I have to get something that looks like crystals, I take those fake diamonds from the old clothes that don't fit me anymore and collect them for a project and the fabric that is leftover, I make it as a moke up fabric for my coming up projects so I don't waste things which I could use over and over again. I know totally out of topic. 😁😅

Omg, how heavy all these skirts are? They must really throw off your center of gravity and you still somehow wear heels. But all the sparkling and shimmering is just😍
P.S. Yumissima belongs to a magician's workshop, it looks like water or smoke when you unfold it.
The petticoat & crinoline is about 9 1/2 lbs and the outer skirt is maybe 1? It really does take some "work" to twirl in it!
@@BellaMaesDesigns i'm an avid contradancer who twirls like crazy in huge, very full long skirts with horsehair braid hems. and even that definitely constitutes a third partner in the couple!

Forget skirts made of clouds! That looks more like you belong to dancing on a shoreline with seafoams and the gentle waves in early morning when the mist and night sky is still on the horizon but also seeing the soft light of dawn
