      No matter how good this game is, it will never live up to the hype or expectations some people have of it. It could be the best game ever made, and some people will still be disappointed because it didn't live up to their imaginations. That's just the way things are. I'm really excited about Star Citizen, but I'm keeping my expectations in the middle ground.

    0:39 Will individual planets have unique terrain? How will this contribute to gameplay?
    6:34 How are you planning on handling on-foot and in-flight exploration of a planet like ArcCorp that is completely covered in factories?
    8:59 How will the PU work during logouts/ISP disconnects on a multicrew and player interaction basis?
    11:10 How will the game handle multi-day or multi-week guild run campaigns in the PU?
    15:26 (Unscripted) What happens when someone else takes your ship? How will access to your ship be handled?
    19:29 How will the PU handle instancing of missions and the NPC enemies that spawn around them? Will difficulty scale based on the number and quality of the players?
    20:59 Could any of you comment on any of the environmental risks that we can expect to see in the likes of in the PU?
    29:41 Now with farming in the distant future could it be possible to retire our character and have a small house, a field and a garden and do some farming?
    32:02 Will there be multiple currencies, perhaps used by different races? If so, will there be any variation in exchange rate between those currencies?
    33:44 Will people/ships get the capability to activate a distress beacon of sorts that broadcasts their location to nearby ships?

      Elite Dangerous got them beat by making you stare at loading screen for 7 days to get to the other part of slightly different colored planet on the other side of the universe. ED the only game where 80% of game time is the game mechanics of making you stare at loading screen.

    • @SweRaider1993
      @SweRaider1993 8 лет назад

      +cpypcy, SC is, unlike ED, completely seamless and is not going to have loading screens in the PU (it will be streaming). And at least you aren't stuck to the cockpit chair all the time and can just go fool around the ship with the mobiglass, jukebox, etc. or check on the subsystems while you wait. Personally for me, the local physics grids make it enjoyable. The sensation of walking around the bridge of the ship as it flies around is unlike any other game experience.

      I want to do some space trucking and I want to start in slow ship that takes forever to truck across the galaxy. Or I can choose quicker but more dangerous routes. The whole trip shouldn't just be like 10 mins. I want adventure where I have to refuel and fix components along the way. Then when I make money I get to upgrade my ship engines that make it faster.

    Some feedback to whoever set the volumes on this: It was too quiet. I was at work listening on headphones on my lunch break. Even with all volumes at 100% it was too quiet. That's RUclips, Chrome in the mixer, my output device, and the master volume. I don't generally have this issue, I think it was just exported at too quiet a volume.

      It's a bold move. We have the technology now to make such things, that's why we are seeing lots of games like no man's sky or elite dangerous. And we need to remember that this is a crowd funded project, it's made not only with people's money but with their support as well. I think making this game is possible but people need to stay with them for a while (making a games is a long process, and pretty much building a company along the ways takes time too)

  • @Twelvecarpileup
    @Twelvecarpileup 8 лет назад +22

    Video shows one of the issues I have with the game: Casually mentioning something that clearly is going to require a lot of development. For example, I don't think most people would have a major issue if you went to a factory/city covered planet and it auto piloted you into the area where you can be. Nobody expects them to make a whole planet (even from the outside) that's a factory. But talking about how you can fly over certain areas, deviate a bit off the path, different gates and finally have to go through customs on foot... that's a lot of work for very little reward to most of the player base. We all want immersion, but dropping that casually seems like the people working on the game would scream at the screen "Good god no! What are you saying?!"

      Pls go back to your casual COD type game. We dont need it here.

    • @Twelvecarpileup
      @Twelvecarpileup 8 лет назад +5

      It's a well documented issue with the development of the game. The feature sounds like fun, and I honestly think it would be great. However the game is 2 years late (finally moving along right) and if the interviews/reports are to be believed, mainly because of things like this.
      Yes, the feature would be neat. But it's a TON of work for a game that is looking to release years late to begin with. Which is more work? A pre-programed path you fly down to a specific landing path, get out and go on your way. Or several paths that allow deviation and thus need to create a full city for, bugs related to people flying around and an airport/customs system coded/built. On its own, that's fine. But he's done similar things so many times it adds up. Think of the ships that get added regularly for specific purposes. A news ship for example that does in-game TV broadcasts. Creating a system where people can edit/broadcast video in game is a huge undertaking. He says these things, but they're a ton of work... which is the last thing you want in development. It's death by a thousand cuts.

    Good awareness raised there: A hired NPC on a multicrew ship can be a disconnect insurance. If your ISP disconnects you while you fly around in an asteroid field with your Connie, your NPC copilot can prevent you from ramming into a rock until the ship despawns.
    But of course, if your connection is notoriously bad, you can also adapt your piloting habits to that, e.g. by never flying directly at an object but always aiming next to it into empty space. This would probably be a realistic part of flight training anyway, because if you suddenly fall unconscious for some reason, you could die in a huge explosion, and potentially also harm others.
    Regarding service beacons it would need to be decided whether they are like a big lighthouse or more direct comm. I'd assume that service beacon transmissions are secured so you'd need a Herald or such to actively detect a distress call. And if you're outside of comm array range there would probably be listening installations for picking up distress signals so that eventually civilization WILL know about your emergency. Just maybe after some hacker picked it up.

      Jan The best way to think about it, in the case of Star Citizen is; you're not stopped from going there by some invisible wall, you won't fade to black or be forced away. However, just like in real life, you'll be entirely able to go to that inhospitable environment, or fly through that violent sandstorm, but you better be ready to face the consequences if you/your ship isn't equipped for it.

      satannstuff large asteroids with caves or tunnels through them and the odd Mynark (sp) would be cool too, but I love the idea of fiery planets in the sun with sunrise meaning you have to hide underground. Hopefully we will se plenty of variety of xenomorphs also apart from the given alien races. I'm thinking Aliens facehuggers and queen variants/genesteelers/the ones from pitch black/ starship troopers /antlion types. They wouldn't need any backstory or language particularly. They could just inhabit certain environments. Doing that derelict star farer with an alien queen hiding in it...

      Petr Peller as much as you're going to get flamed by fans, you're right. The PU is a gorgeous and empty place. You could do all there is to do in about 6 hours. That has been the case since 2.0 came out, except maybe it went from 5 hours of content to 6. That is if you can stay connected long enough. We waited a year and got some new ships and a broken FPS module.

      Most game developers don't have to "deliver" anything until the whole game is ready and packaged. CIG is working with one hand tied, because they have to continually update a playable alpha for the backers, and run the servers like it's an actual game, when it's not even close to finished. If Rockstar let us play the alpha for GTA6, I'm sure people would complain that the game was taking too long. Which is why the average developer doesn't open their internal builds to the public, or give any thought to making those builds "fun" or "finished" in the short term.

    I like the limited persistence after someone logs off. One of the biggest complaints in E:D is "combat logging," where people will intentionally log out when they are losing a battle, in order to avoid the rebuy cost of their ship.

    For the first time, im starting to think that Star Citizen will never be finished. All of these interviews are always about what stuff will be like, even though said stuff is like 4 years away. You can just say whatever you want in these cases..."Yeah, there will be space Elephants and 3000 planets....you'll be able to have multiple bionic pets". Talking about what will be is easy, but not very interesting.

      Not over a fleet I'm sure perhaps 1 or 2 other ships via NPC's. Although, I doubt it would be a good idea considering the cost of hiring them and the risk to the player losing multiple ships. Another point is NPC's will not perform as well as players. Last 1 player can't see everything that is going on so if they tell the npcs defend me the ships defending could be engaged by ships that are just a decoy while the real threat comes from another side.

    The question about planets that are covered by city/factory they did not answer correctly.. The question was HOW is the player going to be able to walk about the planet openly when the planet is entirely covered by city structures?
    The idea is that we should be able to walk off a ship and walk all the way around the planet ending up where we started....
    How does that work on planets covered by a city entirely???
    Next, If I OWN a ship and have other people onboard and I log out, what happens to MY ship I own? Do I have to make sure all players are off my ship?
    What if I am on a ship that continues on a mission but I cannot log in for days... when I log back in will I then still find myself loading back on that ship later to the surprise of the owner?

      You must not be familiar with Star Citizen. There are already planets of this kind. In fact you can visit one now in game although you are kept from exploring outside the city center area and stores at this time.
      Area18 (ArcCorp): Originally designed as a test for planetside interactions, Area18 is an ultra-detailed cityscape for you and your friends to explore, go shopping, or just see the sights.

      they already told us that is not every planet that is possible to land and walk, this kind of heavily colonized planet is only possible to land im a "hub", for example in ArcCorp you will only be able to land on Area18.

    I have an idea about the online. To start off, I do not know much about making games so I don't know if this is possible.
    OK here it goes: imagine while you were playing, your character gathers information about your playstyle and what not. then when you log out your character switches to an AI character and it plays in a similar way to how you would play. this would allow your characters to play with your friends when they need a crew. you would also earn some of the award while you're away. I feel like this could change the game play significantly

    • @dewd4479
      @dewd4479 8 лет назад

      now imagine while you are away from your character it still exists in PU doing the job that it is set up to do (mining, transport, etc). other characters will interact with your character, sending a message to your phone giving you the option to react.

    • @dewd4479
      @dewd4479 8 лет назад

      also imagine your character has a cargo route that he is following while you are at work. an actual player playing as a pirate attacks your ship. So you open up a 2d layout of your ship showing your AI and the intruders. then you can give your AI orders to protect your ship

    • @cpt.petergear2729
      @cpt.petergear2729 8 лет назад

      That's a cool idea.
      IIRC, CR mentioned in some stream, that he did not like the idea of a player owning, lets say 10 NPC ships that would mine/transport cargo for him 24/7, while the player is offline. This would be allmost like macroing or automining.
      Big ORG's could do that though, but just with actual people playing.
      You could have NPC's hired in your ship and defend it, in case you get disconnected or die during an attack/raid and the NPC's could win the fight and let you get your ship back later on..unharmed.

    • @alv4ro750
      @alv4ro750 8 лет назад

      Matthew Manning but by doing this you are taking away control from the player. if you log back in to realise half your assets are destroyed because your Ai alter ego went for a joy ride for a miniscule amount of credits... well, I would be pissed. don't know about you. and tbh, this would probably be not worth it, because you would need the extra processing power server side to maintain active persistence for every single player. not to mention what would happen if you log back in and your Ai has got you stranded in the middle of nowhere for God knows what reason. just wouldn't be worthwhile from either a design or technical standpoint.

      They figured it was more important to fix the actual issues rather than trying to do work-arounds for one demo. Specifically: It was primarily the AI-subsumption which wasn't fully operational for the demo, so they used placeholders which looked out-of-place. Hence, it was better to fix things for the game and skip the demo. My guess is they will redo the demo once the functional AI systems and such are in-place.

      @bpmiller87 8 лет назад

      I'm no expert, but without a sustainable influx of cash, the game cannot move forward. If it's solely a purchase price, then we'll be flooded with expansions each year to keep the income flow up. This would be more inline with like a console game, versus a MMORPG , that has a monthly ~$15 subscription. I asked the question because I didn't know, but I can't imagine they'd move forward relying solely on the purchase price (which all backers have already paid for any way).

Plus they will make a lot from SQ42 1/2/3 etc... should be enough to keep the people on the payroll plus they said they will sell in game cash for real cash.
