Agreed. Although I do find it very hard to relate to his climbing style; the captain cutloose meme is sometimes taken to extreme levels of inefficiency.

Whole lot on this in John Kettle climbing movement. Also when you’re scared or trying hard you often stop breathing! With lack of oxygen your senses fall of in sequence, first to go is your brain so you stop thinking!! So on longer climbs there is a delay between the air you take in and when that is used. There is so much more to breathing to learn !! Investigate more and tell us more in the future 🤘

It sounds like Louis is describing the 'Valsalva manoeuvre' - something everyone does instinctively when eg lifting something heavy. It increases the pressure in the abdomen, increasing core stability and protecting the back.

what a brilliant 5 minute snippet on breathing, for the interviewer to go "ok thanks for that, what about something else"... how do you not have a follow up question to all of that xD

Inhaling whilst moving naturally extends the spine as well.

go learn meditation and sit 5-10 min before climbing practise this benefits the entire practise including breathing . I recommend dzogchen training. You can also learn ashtanga ujjayi breath, its core lock + root lock, these locks introduces interesting new levels. I also teach breath out very fast with a push and breathing in slow or normal speed, this oxygenates the body without the dizzyness of hyperventilation. Remember breathing out very slowly lowers heart rate, this can be used to calm the mind very effectively. play around with breath you will find a lot of interesting things

I was wondering if implementing diaphragmatic breathing instead of chest breathing would lead to even more beneficial effects while climbing, since it should provide a higher amount of oxygen for the muscles. Very interesting video though, I am surely going to start focusing more on breathing properly while climbing.

Just saying, when Adam Ondra, Chris, power scream they almost always start whenthey initiate the movement, not when hitting hold. If you watch a chris or adam video such as la dura dura you can see that they start power yelling before they hit the hold so Louis seems a bit off base there. Starting the power yell to initiate the move has always been more natural for me as well.

I love this podcast but I would like to challenge you to articulate your questions a bit better.
For example on the tail end of this question you throw out extra wordy lines like "what does that look like" or weirdly timed comments like, "yeah....awesome man" which you could be show your enthusiasm better by just following up with questions, this shows interest in the answer more than generic comments would.

Oxígen is not important. CO2 in the lungs is important. dr KP BUTEYKO found all answers about breathing

Your not supposed to exhale during a lift, that’s not correct

you certainly should exhale during the concentric portion of most resistance training to help brace and maintain intraabdominal pressure.

@@zacharylaschobergenerally yes, not really in powerlifting.
