This tournament made me so happy and so sad at the same time. On one hand it was a return to form for Spargo and he genuinely looked like he was having fun. Also no one got completely destroyed here unlike old summits. everyone had a fighting chance. On the other hand, the top 8 seemed like no one was happy at all except spargo. ESPECIALLY SONIX AND TWEEK. The way they played at some points seemed like they just wanted to leave
Light as well looked pretty shaken up mentally, I think the losses to both AK and Tweek seriously left him in a bad mood by the time he had to fight Ken, which is why I think he lost that match.
I’d say the main difference is that this whole tournament is literally inviting the best of the best from multiple regions, excluding vote ins, for the sole purpose of them fighting it out and seeing who comes out on top. Of course they’re all going to be emotional and damn near running on fumes by the end of it. It was amazing.
Sonix is never happy while playing, he behaves like a spoiled kid and I mean no disrespect, but he has a very toxic mentality for the game and himself, I just hope it doesn't become destructive on the long run, I've only seen him happy AFTER the tourney's over and he won, he has too much hunger for victory and it shows. Tweek unfortunately has no answer for acola and Miya and as per usual, he crumbles under those two, which too isn't anything new to him, that's has always been the case, he has said so several times before, how he becomes so tilted and mentally drained that he doesn't want to play anymore and WTT has a very stressful tournament. MkLeo was just doing MkLeo things, I'm sure he wanted to go further but he is still probably no.1 in the world in terms of mentality. The japanese players take things super seriously unless it's Tea, that's the way they do things, everytime acola popped off, he looks like his sugar levels plummeted after it happened, Miya look'd like someone about to commit murder sometimes and KEN seem'd to be having fun. Sparg0 was clearly the only one having fun but he got the best bracket he could've wished for, which is hilarious considering it was seeds 1, 2 and 3, back to back.
It’s actually wild how Ken struggles with acola and miya but beat light and spargo while on the otha side Sonic struggles with light and spargo but runs thru Miya and acola… like huh lol
It's almost as if the Japanese Sonic has issues with players from his region that have him figured out because they play often and the NA Sonic has issues with players from his region that have him figured out because they play often. Who would've thought.

IMO stalling should only apply to actively attempting to make the tournament longer i.e multiple bathroom breaks, excessive breaks between sets, stalling on select screens not the gameplay itself
This tournament was so cool to see and glad spargo got #1. Man, I hope this motivates Leo again. He doesn't really look like he cares about the game as much as before, which is understandable given how long he's been the goat. But i miss seeing his crazy movement and plays. Hope he returns with that soon. Im happy Sonix timed out acola because steve is such a frustrating character. Thanks for making a summary of the tourney Rice!
That's what I'm saying, I've seen a lot of people say they were rooting against Sparg0, but in my opinion, Sparg0 is one of the only players who's keeping the meta interesting
I’d be rooting for Sparg0 but damn is it stressful to be his fan lol. He’s proven he can beat the best of the best, its just him getting to top 8 that seems inconsistent (the ApolloKage set is a good example of him almost losing). Whereas Miya, Acola and even Sonix can get to the top 8 with ease, those top 4 seeds know its an uphill battle against Sparg0. Sonix also had an amazing run, with good matchups on his bracket, he’s proven again he is a threat to the top 2 best JP players in the world. Though results is what matters, he’s one of those players that makes us question who is really gonna win the tournament. Miya and Acola had an amazing run as expected, Acola especially had a good Aegis against Sparg0 and I can see it beating his Cloud if he improves. Miya again, making top 8 easily and beating NA/Europe best. He’s probably gonna be the best player next year coming with ease, nobody’s got an answer for him when his bracket run lacks Sonix or Sparg0.
That's cause both Cloud and Aegis are so damn inconsistent, Spargos skill is the only reason he is able to make them work at the top, but honestly the characters hold him back from being the insane consistent monster he can be.
@jilvermazariegos Why are you guys glazing so hard. Obviously spargo is very good, cloud is very good too why you acting like Aegis and cloud are mid tiers LOL
Top 6 was a slog to get through. We need more off meta characters to liven things up, because this just made me realize that all the top players, in a bracket where interesting upsets cant happen, are the most boring players to watch
The only reason wny people got so upset about the Web vs acola set is because it's Steve, there's at least 10-15 more characters that can gimp you at that low % and there's at least 20 characters with shitty recoveries that can be gimped without resorting to that much bs. Yes Steve is broken and has a ton of bs tool, but let's not pretend he's the only one capable of doing that, kurama could've done the exact same thing at the exact same % with that much rage, even SSZ can gimp you at those percents with a downsmash into flip kick spike, hell, one of the factors that make MkLeo so dominant in his prime was because he was able to pull those comebacks by killing you at 40-60% last stock with stuff like Byleth's down air. It happens, it sucks, it's always been part of Ultimate, way before Steve was a thing.

Im pretty sure they had enough time to make everyone have a set vs everyone , too much time wasted webb and bloom and tarik felt kinda wasted. Im glad Sparg0 went back to Cloud I've shutted down streams cause sonic vs aegis is boring AF.
WTT was a decent tourney to watch. TBH, though, it’s the first time I watched a major and left feeling unmotivated to play the game. So many sets where the shitty, polarizing character won because of overtuned tools. By the time top 4 rolled around, I just wanted it to end. Locals are still fun to go to, but I’m not going to keep watching if our major top 8s are going to keep looking like this.
You choose a really bad tournament to start, invitationals don't bring a lot in terms of hype because it's meant to be the best of the best, if you don't like the top players attending, you will most likely not enjoy watching. Top 4 players were top 4 seeds, who are currently extremely strong and as much as we love upsets, this was the expected outcomes. If you want hype majors, watch a massive open bracket or a massive qualifier, even this weekend we had Santa Paws and it had a hype top 8 character pool. Even with overtuned tools, Ultimate is the most balanced smash game and you're bound to see very wild stuff in massive open bracket tourneys and hype upsets, Luminosity Makes Moves Miami was super hype for example, but even then, almost all qualifying tournaments for WTT were won by players who ended in top4 here, with the exception of Genesis Black, the last change qualifier that was fairly small and none of the top4 took part in it (Won by Apollokage) The fact that WTT was won by a Cloud main shows how ultimate is, there's not a single cloud that comes close to Sparg0's results even if he has been inconsistent this year, because while Cloud is a great character, he's nowhere near as overtuned as the other 3 in top 4, yet, he absolutely walled them with pure skill and match knowledge.
@@fourniervictor9354 in the fourth pool spargo, light and ak all went 2-1 and light got winners side and skipped the gauntlet because he had a slightly better win % than ak, should've gone to tiebreaker imo
@@npclucario7005 they can't do tiebreakers because of time constrains, we had that one summit with a triple tie that went to tiebreakers only to tie again, so they had to do tiebreakers again to decide it and it fucked the entire schedule for the day, that's 2 hours of extended gameplay which is pretty hype for us, but an absolute nightmare for TOs
I loved this tournament up until the top 6 where there was not much to look forward to. Acola beat Tweek and I know Sonix would beat Ken so we would have a Steve, game and watch, Cloud, and Sonix top 4. I don’t believe we should ban any characters but the top 6 was just not a fun viewing experience, especially after how good losers side and pools was before it. I know that saying I want to go back to the Leo era where Leo was always in top 2 is kind of counterintuitive because I’m frustrated with always having the finals between two of a group of four players, but there was a veriaty of players fighting Leo in grands across many tournaments and Leo is more fun to watch then all the top players now. I have nothing against the top right now, I just wish we had either consistent enjoyable matches like with the Leo era, or a wider variety of players making it far in tournaments.
Leo played characters that had risk and didn’t get out of stuff for free. While the meta wants to promote GnW, Sonic, and Steve as the top 3 titans. With Sonic being the “most fair” of them. Notice that Leo had his chances of beaten increase dramatically simply by switching to Rob.
The title is so cap lmao, this is the worst top 8 in Smash history, 2 sonics, 2 steves and GnW make for the most boring watch in history, Ultimate’s meta really di3d after leaving EVO. Everybody camps to conclude in the worst snoozefest in FGC history. This is the top 8 that made me realize I am done with competitive Smash
Seeding was kinda lame too, everyone wanted to avoid steve and sonic, except dabuz who would have liked sonic and got double steve, gluto got acola twice too. People knew light struggled more vs ken than sonix but he somehow got seeded ken first which was very improbable. Also we all knew sonic and steve where the least enjoyed characters for viewers, why not make some of them fight earlier (ken vs sonix was actually not that out of the way in terms of seeding, acola vs myia in gauntlet too) or one of the 4 sonics & steve against leo, light or sparg0
@@fourniervictor9354”people knew light struggled more vs Ken than Sonix”??? Bro what? KEN fought Light before and he got DEMOLISHED by the Fox. KEN WENT INCINEROAR ON TOP OF THAT. And while seeding was to make sure you get the most new sets out of many players at the time, the results out of those sets are still forcing the Top 2/3 seeds to demolish the 5-7 seeds. It’s not hard to blame the small pool of players to work with rather than the seeding itself Yall got the Top 4 and unfortunately yall don’t like em That’s the problem and the top 4 are simply better
While I don’t like watching Steve, I want to see acola finally beat spargo. While he only took one game, it definitely looked doable, and if he could win their next set it would definitely shut up all the “acola isn’t good he just plays Steve” and “acola can’t be ranked above spargo if he hasn’t beat him” people (yes I know acola beat spargo at LSI, but spargo has been his bracket demon ever since)
Of course its doable, he plays Steve. The issue is that there is a skill canyon between Spargo and Acola in the matchups they play, and Spargo isnt gonna lose those without a fight Also if Acola does end up winning because he hits a minecart at 70, would that really shut anyone up?
Acola played aegis vs Sparg0 at WTT and went 3-1 with game four being fairly close. it wasn't doable because Steve, it was doable because Acola played really well. I think if Acola beat one of the best players in the world playing his secondary aegis, it would probably shut some people up who were claiming that he wouldn't be good without Steve. (And regardless it would definitely shut up the "but he can't be #1 till he beats Sparg0" people)
By far the biggest thing separating Sparg0 and Sonix from the rest of the none-Japanese top players (with the exception of Zomba) is their Steve counter play. They’ve both just figured out the matchup and it really showed at WTT.
@@MagxNoliai tend to agree with what you said but we need to be mindful that Ken basically gave up on using Sonic vs Acola. He felt Sonic could not beat Steve. and then Sonix vs Acola happened twice now. it is possible that maybe with the right player, certain characters can beat Steve.
@@justice8718 As much as I dislike how over tuned Steve is, this literally is not true and is incredibly reductive because of the amount of talented players that exist over there.
@@jj6148 Zackray, Tweek, Gluto and Leo literally cannot beat Acola because of their characters. It doesn’t help that Miya contributes to this issue from that stupid lagless flat being of jank, then switches to STEVE when he gets players like Dabuz that finally beat them.
"The year is 2025. Half of top 8 is all Steve and Sonic and people pivoted from saying we shouldn't ban because there aren't enough players placing well to be worth it, to saying we shouldn't ban anyone because we'd lose half the top players. Smash ultimate takes the route of Brawl and Sm4sh, and people eagerly await the next game."
In pp8 there 2sonics in the top 128 who's the idiot baning the character because their players putting effort in the game while light sucks so bad he didn't win a single game in top 16 I m waiting for the community to ban villager when I became nb 1 and end up in every grandfinal.the comments are so f*cking stupid
"It's the year 202X and even tho Ultimate is the most balanced Smash game there has been, people still complain about everything, specially if there's somehow 2 players in the top 8 using the same character, it's a bleak and annoying future for the community, as it has always been" We had 2 Sonic mains, 1 Steve Main and 1 G&W main with a Steve Secondary in top 8 and yet, the Cloud won. I understand people disliking characters, that has always been the case for any competitive character game really, but I'd rather take what we have here than what's been going on in Melee for the past 15-20 years in terms of character pool as well as what happened to both Brawl and Sm4sh, thinking that something like that will happen in Ultimate is insane. While everyone was talking about "the strongest characters", Leo kept dominating with Byleth who isn't even top tier, Santa Paws GF was Hero vs Corrin and that Hero somehow beat the best Pikachu in the world, we're good, it's just that not every tournament will have the same results in terms of hype. Port priority 8 had a Fox ditto and a Peach/Daisy matchup in losers and no one complained about those because they're not Steve, Sonic or G&W, those were some hype af sets, even tho everyone knows Peach/Daisy and Fox are very strong/bs characters, but reality is that they're not campy nor boring to watch. I enjoyed both WTT and Santa Paws this weekend, they were both great tournaments, for very different reasons.

Even with overtuned tools, Ultimate is the most balanced smash game and you're bound to see very wild stuff in massive open bracket tourneys and hype upsets, Luminosity Makes Moves Miami was super hype for example, but even then, almost all qualifying tournaments for WTT were won by players who ended in top4 here, with the exception of Genesis Black, the last change qualifier that was fairly small and none of the top4 took part in it (Won by Apollokage)
The fact that WTT was won by a Cloud main shows how ultimate is, there's not a single cloud that comes close to Sparg0's results even if he has been inconsistent this year, because while Cloud is a great character, he's nowhere near as overtuned as the other 3 in top 4, yet, he absolutely walled them with pure skill and match knowledge.
It's not because of the overturned characters. Obviously that plays a part, but it's because of the players weilding those characters
Gauntlet system is complete BS imo. Finishing 2nd of your pool with 2 wins and ending in Losers bracket is not normal.
Why ? 3 wins gets you into winners, 3 losses gets you into loosers, it's that simple.
@justice8718 Your point with rob can be easily countered because Leo's rob is incredibly different from any other players rob
Bro feels bad to be AK since they should have played a tiebreaker for who starts in winners
Very peak Top 8
But things mostly went as seeded which is why people thought it was lame imo imo
It’s not hard to blame the small pool of players to work with rather than the seeding itself
Yall got the Top 4 and unfortunately yall don’t like em
That’s the problem and the top 4 are simply better
Tldr: this game will be saved once Spargo, Ken, and Snoix kill themselves
Game will be saved once people start beating sonix, sonix is just goated
While I don’t like watching Steve, I want to see acola finally beat spargo. While he only took one game, it definitely looked doable, and if he could win their next set it would definitely shut up all the “acola isn’t good he just plays Steve” and “acola can’t be ranked above spargo if he hasn’t beat him” people (yes I know acola beat spargo at LSI, but spargo has been his bracket demon ever since)
Of course its doable, he plays Steve. The issue is that there is a skill canyon between Spargo and Acola in the matchups they play, and Spargo isnt gonna lose those without a fight
Also if Acola does end up winning because he hits a minecart at 70, would that really shut anyone up?
Not every character can counter play Steve though, especially if he plays super campy
Steve is literally the only reason why Japan is relevant and that’s awful.

I think you meant december 2023 not 2025 😂
"It's the year 202X and even tho Ultimate is the most balanced Smash game there has been, people still complain about everything, specially if there's somehow 2 players in the top 8 using the same character, it's a bleak and annoying future for the community, as it has always been"
We had 2 Sonic mains, 1 Steve Main and 1 G&W main with a Steve Secondary in top 8 and yet, the Cloud won.
Looking at how great players like webbjp and tweek lose to acola only increases the ban Steve train. Literally the most boring character to watch :(
I mean Tweek didn't even try. And Webb got to game 5, lacking just a bit of experience and MU knowledge to take it.
@@Hags_95 that character made a high top play actually give up, that’s how I saw it. But I guess you’re not wrong
@@LazyNinjass Making a top player completely give up isn't only a Steve thing though. I remember sets where people like Sonix and Zomba just gave up after not having any answers in other matchups.
@@LazyNinjass acola himself gave up against Sparg0 earlier this year.
@@LazyNinjassNot the character, the player. It takes wayyyy more than Steve to be number 1 in the world for so long, and that's just facts
No
Are we at the point yet where we can start calling them the 4 gods of ultimate?
People are calling them the 4 horsemen
@@RisterMice that’s a lot better
