Spikes speech to Buffy in the last episode was epic. Angel has never said something like this lmaoo. For a vampire to be that evil and change for love says alot. He loved her unconditionally.
Funny how I watched Buffy when I was younger and was always a Spike stan. Even still have a cardboard cut out which is stored away now. Rewatching it now, i’m still a Spike stan but for much different reasons. Spike’s character arc is legendary. Not only was he “athletic and handsome,” his character also was genuinely pursuing being a good man and was ride or die for Buffy (even Buffy admitted it) no matter what. And didn’t mind professing his love for Buffy, even when it was to his detriment. The Buffy and Spike teamwork is still my favorite all time television. And they both loved each other. Their “no you don’t,” were defense mechanisms initially that became part of their banter. His true good man champion nature came when he didn’t try to escape but told Buffy to go because he had to finish it. No hate for all the Angel and Buffy fans, but I’ll forever be a Buffy and Spike stan.
Buffy chose Spike over Angel in the end as her champion and married him in comic book series much to the displeasure to the Angel shippers and fanbase, but technically she didn't end up with either vampire in the end on the show. Joss Whedon did a disservice to both fanbases, probably so neither side would be disappointed or upset with that choice. Angel made it hard for Buffy to love someone else after him and to move on and to love easily again while Spike opened up her eyes to an actual and equal partnership one that has her back, defends her, understands her needs, one that helps her to see her own strength within, willing to sacrifice himself so she can live out the rest of life. The reality is Spike was better for her than Angel was even though he was her first love and will always be the first, but that was then, Spike becomes her true equal and partner at the end of season 7. Plus, I see now as an adult that Angel is and will always be more childish than Spike, Oh my God, are you 12? 15:31. Buffy was right, her personal life is no longer his business anymore. That kiss between Angel and Buffy was Joss Whedon catering to the Bangel fanbase that's all, she still chose Spike and brushed off Angel for him and she did say she loved him in the end so better late than never.
She admitted it to Tara, admitted it to spike, and I’m pretty sure she admitted it to Dawn. She just didn’t use the words “I love him”. When Tara asked she admitted it and told her she shouldn’t accept her for it. Told Dawn she had feelings for him but the relationship was over. And then admitted it to spike several times that she did in fact have feelings for him (Xander and Anya’s wedding for example). All the little out of context projection comments Buffy made when with the scoobies ect. The only reason Angel was brought up during serious conversations seemed like straight fan bait to make it seem like spike was always and still is a stand in for Angel and a rebound for Buffy.
thank you for this , I had no idea about the comic book. Joss whedon had an issue with James Marsters - he says in a podcast whedon pushed him offset upset off how big his fan base was. Whedon didnt want spike to be reoccuring actor apparently. But other actors have complained about his methods and treatment so you are spot on.
I love how protective Buffy is when it comes to Spike. She punches Faith in the face. 😂😂 "Are you okay?" Then get a lil jealous when she see's Faith talking to Spike. Lol... I am seeing love from Buffy for Spike.
Spike ALWAYS had Buffy's back. No matter what. Buffy could be as wrong as two left shoes, Spike didn't care. Spike ALWAYS took her side and nobody else's. Unlike Angel, who had the nerve to take Faith's side over Buffy, AND he punched Buffy in Faith's defense. Faith who committed countless murders. Faith who tried to kill Buffy several times. Faith who stole Buffy's identity and tried to have her shipped off to no-where's-ville in England. Faith who tried to kill Dawn, Buffy's mother AND Xander. And if you go back and watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you will see Buffy was FOREVER "rescuing and saving Angel". When Buffy and Angel got in a fight with the bad guys, Angel would start off fighting fine, THEN "typically" he would get knocked out or something falls on him and Buffy would have to stop fighting to save hapless Angel. Spike ALWAYS fought side by side WITH Buffy like a team.
I find it ironic that I like the character of Spike because he's so much like my husband but my husband hates that I like Spike because they "have very different colouring."
