I remember while watching this one I really didn't like it. I made a note of 2 out of 5. Barely anything of note happens, even in its short runtime.
That said, the climactic scene (the locale and how it's shot) is actually quite memorable. For that reason this stubborn little film will stick out in your mind more than others when trying to recall hundreds of noir you've seen. Sometimes that x factor of just having something truly unique or memorable in these pictures makes the difference. When you've seen enough of these they kind of blend together. Most of them I cant recall without seeing the title and then remembering I watched it. But this one I remember for the standout title and cool climax.

Damn... was that a packed suitcase of names, or what? lol
Eddie needs to put up a diagram chart of all these people involved, with appropriate connecting lines and arrows, so we can keep 'em all straight.

Going to pass on this one. I find police procedurals a bit boring. If it's anything like He Walked by Night, I know I won't be missing out on anything that I wouldn't enjoy.
Unrelated, but I'm on the e-mail mailing list for the Noir City Film Foundation, and I noticed that there is a new film restoration project upcoming. All of the restoration projects release on a Blu Ray label called Flicker Alley. This new one is called “Never Open that Door" and releases on June 21st. I'm really glad they persist with these restoration titles because you know they truly care about what they do and go about saving these fims out of love for the art.
Anyway, either Eddie hasn't said much about this new film coming out, or I've been living on a desert island.
    Fare thee well, folks.

Thanks! I have seen this one, but don't remember it. So I can't tell you whether it's mostly a procedural or not. But I can quote from Leonard Maltin: "Solid little film noir about police manhunt for self-righteous psychopathic killer called The Judge. Packs style and substance into just 59 minutes." Funny I don't remember that. Anyway, I'll be re-watching soon.

@@NoirFan77 It is a police procedural, inasmuch as Eddie says it is in the outro. I didn't watch the outro at first for fear of spoilers, but when I knew I wasn't going to watch the film, I watched the outro and he does definitely say it's a police procedural. Which is fine-that's a legitimate sub-genre of noir. It's just a genre I don't care for very much.

@@BickBenedict1 Understood. But could I tempt you with 'Stray Dog (1949)' by Kurosawa? They say it set the template for police procedurals. And the time & location is fascinating.

@@NoirFan77 You might, if I could similarly tempt you with Bernardo Bertolucciʼs The Conformist from 1970. Not a procedural by any means, and probably not noir, either, but still a wondeful film I've long kept close to my heart.

@@BickBenedict1 Sure, it's been on my watch list for years. You've bumped it up, thanks. I offered Stray Dog to you as a police procedural that might move your opinion of them in a new direction. Don't see how my watching The Conformist has anything to do with that.

Eddie getting lazy and repeating his 2018 intro word for word? Ok, only been a day since I watched the earlier version but seems slightly updated :)

Repeating what he wrote about a 1949 film, for filming on a new set 6 years after the original, isn't the mark of laziness. IMHO, of course.

@@NoirFan77 Heh, wasn't complaining, and thanks for posting these since TCM seems to have stopped posting them on their site. I'd hate to miss Noir Alley.
