    I’m confused about the size. You said to take off 1/2” for each direction so left to right that would be 1”. Right? Then you said the 5 1/2” would then be 4 1/4. Please explain. Thanks

      Hi Sherry - sorry for the confusion. Yes, subtract one-half inch from each side of the hoop - that will be your maximum embroidery area. The useable area on a 5.5 Mighty Hoop will be 4.5 inches. It has been my experience, with my Babylock and Brother 10 needles, on the left side of the needle, there is a small hook that is used when we thread our machines. It is always my concern, with the added little hook on the left side of the needle/foot, I do not want that added area to come into contact with the side of the hoop. So even though the maximum area is, in fact, 4.5 inches (on a 5.5 Mighty Hoop), I "play it careful" and keep my design no bigger than 4.25....it's just me. :-) Hope this helps.
