Has anyone been pumpkin picking before?! 🎃👇

Yes, with the kids. We rode on a wagon to the field at Ashland Berry Farm.
We put the pumpkins on the porch.

    Great video !!!
Love the views. And who doesn't love a Colonial Tavern?
Love the shopping haul! Who would guess you could do that in more than one place in your home?
When my Mother was a child, their money crop in the county was peanuts. She had to shell her quota of peanuts every evening before she could do her homework.
Love the pumpkin patch. Hint: It always rains for the Fair, during the last week in September.
If you get pumpkins too early, sometimes they rot before Halloween. Sometimes I have to reason regarding produce: If they are not good enough to ship, they are not good enough to buy. That is terrible, but sometimes true. The places where they ship from have better soil, so more minerals - calcium and phosphorus, sometimes related to volcanic soil, so longer shelf life. Unless something is picked too green, of course.
Also, it seems to rain when it is time to go the strawberry farm, at the end of May.
My Father was a railway mail clerk and he wrote letters when he was a young man and described riding through Charlottesville.
Feb. 6, 1926: Did you ever try your luck at writing on a
train. It sure is hard to do. We should be on the
train together instead of my writing by myself. I
am now beholding the town of Culpeper. This is a
place of about 2000 I guess but the train won't be
here long. A lady and her small son...
got on. A girl got off. There is one girl left in the
car. She got on at Charlottesville...
At home the snow is quite deep and from
there to here it varies. From Charlottesville to
Orange there is practically none and from Orange
here it is plentiful but not deep. I don't know how
much is in Wash. The conductor is such a flirt and
is flirting with the girl... There are
two day coaches and not enough to fill one. At
Charlottesville a lot of people got off to go to
Richmond. From here to Wash. is such a
lonesome ride. No hills or mountains to look at
and I like to look at the hills. At places at times I
just can see the mountains in the west.
    Feb. 26, 1926, postmarked Charlottesville:
I am getting closer and closer to
Charlottesville and I must now take a search for a
stamp and if not I will have to do best I can some
way. Lucky, lucky I am. I soon got a stamp and I
lost my pencil. I got to looking for it and the
young fellow who I got the stamp from found it
    and brought it to me.

Gasp!! You said the word “campus” when referring to the UVA GROUNDS. Those who know, always refer to UVA’s “grounds” and not UVA’s “campus.” Why? Well, I guess it’s just more sophisticated and I think Thomas Jefferson referred to his University the same way. Also, the Rotunda was the LAST building to be built in the academical village. There was a very good reason for this, but just in case you wanted to explore the reason, I won’t tell you here. Also, you CAN go in the Rotunda. In fact, they do guided tours but I’m not sure of their tour schedule. Finally, the original Rotunda had an annex built on the outside of the building until it (the Rotunda) burned in a fire in 1895 (due to faulty electrical wiring). There is also something special about each of the (taller) pavilions spaced out among The Lawn dorms. Don’t know if you noticed it, but each one is built with a different architecture style to teach young UVA students in the early days of the school about the different architecture styles (I guess they still do that, but you don’t have to look at the pavilions anymore). Anyway, great place - looks like you just barely scratched the surface of all the great stories and history there. Still, just glad you went! 🧡
My wife and kids used to go to Carter Mountain all the time. Great place!

Another great vlog for day 5 . It just gets better and better. Pumpkin Pickin'g , a favorite activity of ours. Our Nephew, who is a graduate of UVA at Charlottesville got married in the grotto where the dorms are. What an experience that was. All Good. It was so nice meeting you guys today at Vegan Fest. Wish we could have meet you sooner there and chatted a bit more.
