It’s true the team was 2-3. Way too early to just start blasting away at the coaching staff. It’s a losing decision that stems from a losing culture. Also even if Bill never had Tom he would still have 2 Super Bowls from the Giants.

Bellichick had Lawrence Taylor at the Giants. And he's the first guy to give the players credit, he says the coaches can only do so much, it's the players who make it happen. He doesn't give himself enough credit, but that's part of what makes him a great coach. He credits others, that makes players want to play for him.

Then the organization/owner can make picks 2-7.
Having a coach pick his own 1st round pick ensures that he’s developing the team his way.

When Belichick came to Cleveland he cut some decent bedrock players who were not over the hill but just didn't fit his "system" at the time. That didn't work out very well at all. He is a great D Coordinator, and I believe ( as his record indicates) that Brady was his on-the-field coach. Being under .500 without Brady is a telling statistic. But he was a brutal dude....the way he cut Kosar was very telling. Not why he cut him, but how he did it..Bernie was beat up and not able to take any more pounding, so you release the guy mid-week and while in first place? Never been done before or since. He cut any player who was perceived as a threat to his authority as coach. He can't bitch about an owner doing the exact same thing. I think he's a fantastic D coordinator etc etc but his last drafts at NE were truly terrible. Odd combination of boom or bust. He should rejoin the NFL as a D Coordinator somewhere and get back to his roots.
