"Indecisive" / dance video

Hey gang,
Keone here. I’ve been trying to find the right words to express what dance and I have been going through this year. Some deep questions had to be slow cooked in my noggin and simply put, I realized dance doesn’t fulfill me the way it used to. Or at least in the ways that other things I’m starting to fall in love with do. Other incredible non-dance-focused things that we’re so so excited to be working on that tug on my heart. And while dance is changing in my life, I notice the change in dance in general. While I personally can’t find fulfillment in adapting to some of these new social media norms, I’m glad others are flying in the wind and having fun with it. It’s just not me nor what I enjoy about dance. So please excuse me while I navigate this new balance of work. Of old and infant passions zig zagging through my brain and heart (and in these internet spaces). Meanwhile after this long soliloquy watch this new dance piece 🙄😆 No seriously though, it’s just me shaking hands with dance again. By moving to music that moves my soul. Me and dance cordially agreeing that we can hang out again. I’ll always love dance, but sappily enough I’m not in love with it… and I’m ok with that.

It's reassuring to know even the greats are taking a moment to navigate the current space that dance is in. It doesn't make me happy or motivated either to dance the way people currently want to see dance, and that's okay 🙂

You said something which I realised for myself circa 2016; I'll always love dance but I'm not in love with it and that's okay. Back when you taught me in that workshop in 2011 or 2012 I probably wouldn't have believed I would ever cross that threshold if someone told me I would, but we grow and evolve. Everything comes in waves. I've noticed myself fall in and out of love with dance. So far, I've always come back to it. I think it's only possible to come back if you accept the possibility that you might not.

Hey Keone, I've been someone who for some time appreciates much of your work. Thank you for your honesty as it's not always to be open about the current situation you're going through. But I'm glad that you are recognizing this! There are gifts and things that we've been blessed with and at times very exhilarating. But it should never impede on the bigger picture of our lives. And I think I could feel it, but what fulfils your soul probably does change over time..especially after a long time of loving something. I'm feeling the same about basketball after 30 years.
