In America, many workers contribute to 401(k), and their company has a match plan of some sort. Even famers contribute to retirement accounts at their credit unions, etc. In my experience, it gives you a bit of a tax break on your income, so you get savings plus around the same amount of money to take home. So I don't know what you mean by "the vast majority of voters."
