I learned a new stitch! Which is saying something as I've been embroidering for 50 years & been a Lady in the SCA for 40!!!! Thanks for this delightful video!
I'd been putting off trying embroidery, after many years of cross stitch, because somehow I got the idea that it was really difficult. It's not! I finally tried it this year and am enjoying picking up new stitches. You've given me a new one to try, with the braided stitch. Thanks for the clear instruction and for not going too fast. This makes it easy to understand.
I'm learning how to embroider, so this was a delight to watch. It was nice to hear your recommendation and see how to do the stitches. Thank you for taking the time to make this for us all.
Thank you for this. I am impressed with how many different styles you demonstrated in such a compact and understandable way. Thanks for being apart of 2020 cocovid!
I have been embroidering for some years now and had never been able to do a satin stitch very well. The way you showed how to do it was so easy. Thank you so much for sharing your craft.
Can't wait to rewatch this and try out all the stitches. I've only done a little bit of a embroidery so far, so this is a great lil tutorial. And the case is so cute!
Our favorite is the French knot too! We recently embroidered a western suit and used the French knot as centers for the flowers. Great video! Learned some new stitches and excited to use them in our next embroidery adventures.
This is an amazing guide! I've been wanting to learn how to embroider for a long time, and this is a great resource to help get started! Well done! Artfully, Iason
I'm watching this again as I prepare to embroider a reticule I'm making. I forgot you talked about mixing colors. That's such a genius idea. Of course, I never knew you weren't supposed to always use all the threads in the floss all the time, so *shrug*. LOL
I used to do cross stitch pattern "paintings" before they were a thing you could get at walmart and michaels as kits. I have an art background, so mixing threads made sense to me. I have had some many people not consider you could do that and I desperately wanted to share that. I am SOOOO glad you found this useful!!
@@EagleRue It will be a while before they're finished. I'm scraping faux leather off of them because they're old and it's already coming off. I'm also trying to film my process and eventually upload it.
That had so much information. Thank You. I'm all set up for some serious embroidery. I did some when I was younger and have been interested in beginning again and embellishing something sonderful. So far it's just been a little chain stitching on a couple pin cushions and felt scissor covers. I Look forward to finding you on YT and seeing/learning more.
I forgot about the French knot, I haven't embroidered for a really long time. I'm showing my age, but we used to cover all surfaces including jeans in satin stitch. Now I hear that people pay big dollars for embroidered jeans, amazing!
A little late to this video, there's been so much to watch I can't keep up! I really love this one, though - embroidery is one of my favourite crafts (more like an art, though) and it's always fabulous to see it done, especially in relation to historical works. I'm still only a beginner, so I was surprised at how many of these stitches I either know or know of. The stem stitch is a particular favourite
Great video! I am very literally an absolute beginner (I did my first piece of embroidery last month) and this tutorial was so well made that I could follow the process and explanation of every stitch. I look forward to using this as a reference in future projects (when I acquire them 😅)! Thank you so much for making this video and I hope you have a wonderful day!
❤️That is so beautiful, I need to practice my embroidery again! Though I only know a few simple stitches, so I can’t wait to practice a few more fancy stitches! Thank you so much for the lovely videos!😊 I’m glad CoCoVid brought me to your channel! I am now Subscribed!
You can do it! There is a link in the description box for hoops. I use the plain wooden ones. If you get a few sizes, it helps to have a few as you expand to different projects.
I noticed that the stem stitch is basically the back side of a back stitch 🤔 I noticed while sewing that the back side of my backstitching actually looked quite lovely and only now I learned that there's a name for it and it's am embroidery technique? Thank you so much for this video!
Wow such a great video, you were not joking about that LAST embroidery stitch. That one is definitely will need some practice on that one. I felt like I was on a roller coaster. I do have confidence i will get it because of your video. Thank you so much
You can do it! YES! I always feel like, teaching basic things is fun, especially when I can drop in something more difficult to show you how much more there it...and do share when you do it, over on instagram I would love to see!
This is so cool! I'm extremely new to all this, i.e. my most advanced sewing project so far has been a face mask due to the pandemic, but I've always wanted to learn to embroider. Especially the stem stitch looks so neat! I'm definitely gonna try this. Thank you!
Adding embroidery to the edges of garments looks so pretty! Did you add the embroidery after finishing the garment. And if so how do you manage to get the sleeve area in a hoop? (Can you even? Seems like it would make stabilizing the work hard)
What a wonderful question! Yes, most of the embroidery is done after the garment is complete. If you go back into my history you will sess garments that are embroidered before. The plaited braid stitch and the chain stitch are exceptionally easy to do without a hoop- once you practice them a few times.
Thank you for this video! I got a bit lost trying to follow the braided stitch, but it looks so pretty, I may have to try it some time :) My mom has the same scissors, so I might try making her a case.
Beautiful work! What size scissors would you usually put in this? I saw you pull small scissors out of it. Would it just depend on the strength of the fabric you used to make it?
What a great question. If you measure from the straight line on the pattern down to the point- right down the CENTER of the pattern, that will give you the max length of the scissors this case will hold. So what is cool - you can size UP the pattern to fit larger scissors, or size down to fit smaller scissors. It is quite versatile. I was demonstrating with my snips- the only ones on the table at the time. So not a really good example I am very sorry about that.
I like that you showed how you used these in your costumes. I've done a bit of embroidery so know some of the stitches, I've never heard of the plaited stitch though. You had one on there that you called the button hole stitch. You did it on the edging of one of your garments I was taught that it was called the blanket stitch. Are those the same or different stitches?
Wonderful! It is the same stitch. The buttonhole or blanket stitch is essentially the same thing. Some of the most common stitches used through history and in cultures around the world had different names- but essentially the same stitch.
This looks like a nice embroidery practice piece, although I might skip the last stitch and just fill the stems with satin stitch instead. Possibly two shades of green, as I’ve seen that used beautifully, like on my Nordlandsbunad.
I learned a new stitch! Which is saying something as I've been embroidering for 50 years & been a Lady in the SCA for 40!!!! Thanks for this delightful video!
YES!!! You just made my heart sing.
it's so nice to be able to SEE these stitches worked instead of just looking at diagrams in a book!!
I am so glad! I hope to do more embroidery online tutorials. I feel there are so many stitches to work with!
Plaited braid looks so much cuter than it sounds!
