  • A traditional setting of the Great Doxology from the Utreniye (literally, "Morning Service", Matins). It is sung by a choir from Moscow under the direction of Viktor Popov, with an accompaniment of photographs of Russian Orthodox churches in the homeland and the diaspora.
    I dedicate this in memory of Barbara, for her kindness. Vechnaya Pamyat.

    Nothing compares to orthodox chants. They are absolutely divine and the voices like those of angels.

    A wonderful video! I have long loved to listen to the Russian chants of the holy Church. I am especially fond of Rachmaninov's Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom.

    It is impossible to find words to describe this great work. The solo part, starting almost hall-way through is breathtaking. I don't speak Russian, but the appeal to get closer to God is felt in your soul, brought forth by the soloist's longing supplication starting at 8:18. Your heart feels such peace and serenity.
    Thank you for posting one of the most beautiful works of Orthodox music I have heard.

    This is the sort of music which causes listeners to attend with trembling and reverent fear, attentive to the glory of God.

    It is, indeed, the Spas na Krovi (Church of the Saviour on the Spilled Blood) in Petersburg, built on the spot of Tsar Aleksandr Nikolaevich's assassination. There are two others. One is in Yekaterinburg at the site of the murder of the Royal Martyrs and the other is in Uglich at the site of the murder of the Tsarevich Dmitri by Tsar Ivan Grozny.

    Of this particular group... no, I am afraid not. I downloaded the music from a Russian site. However... ("Odnako", as Chuckcha would say... ) if you google "Hilarion Alfeyev", and go to the bishop's website, there are downloadable mp3s of his liturgical music. That may held you.

    i answered you but i saw that it didn;t appear so i will say it again, i was reffering at the musical sound..psaltical and oriental brings more with Christ then corals, i wasn;t reffering to the dark history ,i know that russians saved orthodoxy but i don't like that they turned it to something else..the essence of music lies within syrians and greek orthodox, (even that their leaders did what they did) Many are called ,few are choosed..right?
    God bless you!

    As Roman Catholic I can only admire the Russian Orthodox wonderful traditions, and vocal sounds. So devine, truly Holy Russia. I hope our friendship will deepen and that the pope will sacrifice a lot more to establish that deep friendship.

    hmm... the Russian chant has always been different, and harmonisation existed before the Westernisation in the Petrine period. For instance, the Znamenny in the old "square" notation is rather distinct from the New Roman usage (let's not use "Byzantine", that's a Western papist anachronism). That is, the distinctiveness was there from the first. Perhaps, that is because we Russians are the most "northern" and "western" of the Orthodox peoples.
    Nicht wahr?

  • @Vostorgina01
    @Vostorgina01  15 лет назад +3

    au contraire... we Russians stood tall against the papists in 1612 and 1242 (do remember that they starved Patriarch St Germogen to death!)! The Greeks sold out at Ferrara-Firenze and some of the Syrians sold out to the Uniates for money (although it must be said that the ordinary people did not concur, thankfully).
    Checkmate... next move?
