    You'll never see a carrier at sea without a fleet around it.
    All those other ships are there to protect the carrier from those threats, and they are very good at what they do.

    Can't wait to get on board. One question that I can't find anywhere and don't feel like bugging my recruiter about is this: When AO fits the planes with bombs or missiles, do they do it on flight deck or down below or both?

    The US uses various accoustic and MAD systems to detect ANY submarines by triangulation. This is done utilizing aircraft,helo's, sub's, and suface ships working as a team. Once located it is just a mater of a few torpedoes, depth charges, or SUBROCS, to eliminate the threat.

    The fact it is nuclear powered is a bonus as it doens't need to refuel. It won't be obsolete for a long time.
    It'd also be hard to sink because it has a large group of other ships protecting it. That and the thing is so big you'd need a lucky hit in the ammo stores or something.

    Whatb would the 16th century fleet first see of the encounter? Would it be a sudden missile stikes with no warning, or would they get close enough to see anything of the modern group?

  • @OptimusGonzoo
    @OptimusGonzoo 17 лет назад

    you know, watching those missiles come off those F18s, how hard would it possibly be to make a missile which would launch backwards and make the 2nd person in the plane (what is he now, navigator/copilot?) make him also be the rear gunner? it couldn't possibly be THAT hard.

  • @Deathpod4
    @Deathpod4 16 лет назад

    That IS amazing. I had assumed he must have died. I thought he would have come out the back minced. I bet it buggered the engine up, him being bigger than a bird. I'm fasinated by aircraft carriers. I imagine you miss it, although I don't know what you're doing now. I'm actually writing (or trying to write) a fictional book. In your opinion (sorry if this sounds daft) Would modern weapon systems work on old fashoned square rig sail ships (like Ships of the Line)? Would they get a radar lock?

  • @wilz1122
    @wilz1122 16 лет назад

    im not sure it would get picked up, depends on what type of electronics the ship you describe would be running, but you have to understand that the Carrier Strie Group is spread out, and there is helo surveilence 24/7 and flight ops going for almost constantly, so i would say thaat a ship like you describe whether it came up on radar or not would bedead in the water regardless, i have no doubt

    The Tomcat adapted to the Fighter-bomber role incredibly well. It has often been said to be a better bomber than F/A-18. But the Navy will have to go on without the Tomcat and the Hornet is still a very good and capable aircraft, even more with the Super Hornet.

  • @spitfire77mike
    @spitfire77mike 17 лет назад

    Those clips are from USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-72) and USS George Washington (CVN-73). The large number on the side of the island structure gives it away. I didn't see a number for USS Nimitz (CVN-68). I served on USS Saratoga (CV-60) and USS Independence (CV-62) with reserve duty onboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74). The "NK" on aircraft tail may be for Nimitz. My airwing was "AA", but I don't claim to know everything. :-)

    no they didn't travel alone in WWII, Go look at some of the battlegroups deployed to the pacific during the island hopping campaign against Japan. And today battle groups are also essential because threats are more sophisticated. Carriers specialize in moving aircraft and projecting power so Marines, soldiers, etc. on the ground can get close air support. Cruisers, destroyers, and subs are there to protect carriers from any threat. Battlegroups are essential power projection tools

    @Phantasmos that wasn't germ warfare, we weren't at war with Guatemala... it was an experiment, but certainly not warfare. and US does produce ethanol... we're doing it with corn... but the incentive for us Americans is not as high to produce these green fuel sources, we're lagging cuz we're still a huge oil producer (from a percentage basis), but we are developing green technology.

    I'm sure they would wipe it out easyly. In my book there is a (sort of) time travel thing happening, and it would envolve a modern carrier group engaging fleets from the 16th (ish) century. I was wondering how the modern fleet would deal with such a threat. For example I understand in ww2 the bizmark anti air weapons couldn't hit the bi planes (swordfish) because the planes were to slow. Again, sorry if it sounds silly. I didn't know electronics could help to get missle lock. Stands 2 reason tho

    Magnetic wing tech question.;Wings on Stealth Jet could be made to produce less wing drag by placing small magnetic wings above large wings and make both these wings high charged magnetic metal. Now a Jet has four magnetized wings. They act as vibration reducer. Creating higher speed and control values. Of course computer would control magnetic power of the wings and change magnetism when it turns and lands.

  • @AccordGTR
    @AccordGTR 14 лет назад

    @monimstarfox Not necessarily, There would have to be an exchange of several hundred nuclear weapons's for the world to be affected.
    Several countries already have small tactical nuclear weapons that they can use on a limited basis. The Type 65 nuclear torpedo the Russian have has a yield of 20 kT, about the size of the WW2 atomic bombs dropped in Japan. It is only designed to take out an American carrier battle group, which carries nuclear weapons too.

    Are they FA18 Super hornets? The same as RAAF is about to buy? Does anyone know if they could they theoretically land on the two LHD ships that the oz navy is buying to act like mini aircraft carriers?

  • @rioishikawa
    @rioishikawa 14 лет назад

    @patsyd80 look at global history, the Spanish Navy wrought fear and destruction but also provided protection, the British Navy did the same as well. As the world power rotates from country to country the leading country always stood on top with a powerful navy even though excessive. Also, look at the technologies available now to sink naval vessels. It's easier to sink than to replace a naval vessel with a craft a fraction of the cost.

    You missunderstood when I said..MAD...it refers to Magnetic Anomoly Detection. MAD sensors are used to detect the natural and manmade differences in the Earth's magnetic fields.Changes can be caused by the passing of large ferrous objects, such as ships, submarines or even aircraft through the Earth's magnetic field. MAD sensor operation is similar in principle to the metal detector used by a treasure hunter or the devices used by utility companies to find underground pipes.

    macnos,
    The U.S Navy fleet existence is hanging in the balance for some years now.
    Because of the extremely lethal Russian
    anti ship missiles. These missiles are very capable of taking out carriers and are difficult to defend against. They are the reason why the U.S is developing new defence systems the last 8 years.

    Carriers have a lot of defences but they are certainly not invincible.
