I work as a digital artist as well, and always had 2 laptops, one for gaming and one for touch, but this would make my life much more easy. I mean I don't think it was mentioned here, but to be able to detach the keyboard and just comfortably, lay down down somewhere on the couch or what not and either watch something or draw is for sure a huge plus.
Dude, I cannot thank you enough. I've been on the fence since I discovered this product and I have been waiting for this very video to be posted since you put out the unboxing. I'm going to wait for the next generation, which will hopefully have 32G RAM and a battery with more storage. Super stoked to have discovered your channel though. @@loganmiller449 I got the next gen X16. I figured that I could use the bigger screen and more typical laptop layout PLUS a touchscreen. I'm at uni for electrical engineering, and I think I made the right choice. A bit clunky but super capable and great for design. Although I use VPN to connect to our school workstations anyway, so it's more than I need to be honest. I also have a little Samsung tablet for notes and that satisfies my need for something small to write on.
@@mikewtull a detailed breakdown. Thank you. I’m leaning more towards the z. I will mainly be gaming and doing artwork. Your insight has been appreciated. Thanks. The onexplayer x1 is also appealing but it needs another generation for the gpu to be “tolerable” for me. It’s fine if you’re okay with medium game setting but I like high setting with 80fps+ in things like red dead.
They need to make this in a 16 inch format, huge sell for me. With two sizes to choose from, you can decide what you need most from portability or size- instead of only one of the qualities. This is the ultimate "tablet" replacement as well as "laptop" replacement there is out there. I know the X16 exists however that's not a full replacement because it cannot be disconnected from the keyboard and loses that purely "tablet" functionality. I will however be waiting for a new refined version of this with hopefully better battery, cooling & performance, keyboard refinements and additional ports.
That's exactly how I feel about this tablet. It's pretty much the form factor I want but performance is what's is holding me back. So I also had the same idea you mentioned, laptop + tablet but it's to avoid needing to by two devices that I want a device like the Flow Z13.
For me, the battery life a a huge con. I bought the Z13 and use it in class to write notes on OneNote. With 20% brightness, battery saver and silent profile, I can only use it for 2 hours on battery. I wished they used a bigger battery or a Ryzen processor. Great review!
Yeah I ultimately did the same. If I could get around 5 hours out of it I would've kept it. But I was getting two or maybe three hours. It was great in almost every way, so it was heart breaking to return it. But, if it's not gonna perform one of the main reasons someone would want a tablet then it has some work to do.
did you try it with Optimus on or into igpu mode only + with the screen set to 60hz mode? looking to purchase this for the same reason and looking for insights as well
Why you want write notes in gaming tablet.? Get an iPad for notes and a separate gaming laptop. I think you can buy both for the same price you spent on this device
Thanks for the review. I’ve been using this for 3 weeks. Battery is definitely an issue. Also the tablet form is a problem. It’s so heavy with sharp edges as a tablet. And also because it is “too heavy”, I found it hard to move this tablet around. Another big issue I have so far is the SD driver on the XG Mobile, I had to uninstall the driver or the tablet will reboot on its own regularly. But after all, since I had the budget for it and I don’t do many production work on the go, I ended up liking it a lot. This thing functions well and it just looks so cool.
When I say “hard to move around”, I meant for example if you want to move it from a table to sofa, normally you hold the keyboard side of a laptop and go. But for Z13 you will have to take the tablet while the keyboard won’t stay in place. So you will have to close the keyboard which might put Z13 to sleep. Also because it’s touch screen, moving it without closing the keyboard or putting it to sleep just feel weird.
My battery won't charge after 2 weeks of purchase. Under warranty from both Amazon and asus but I still have to send it back to either repair it or replace it. Had no issues with it until this.
Thank you for this review! I was going through Z13 reviews and almost all of them are from a gamer perspective. Understandable, but something I don't care about. At all. Having said that, the reason I want the Z13 (and why I loved Surface Pro 3 back in the day even if underpowered) is something you didn't consider as a use-case. I work from a coworking space where I have a fixed space with a monitor, keyboard and mouse and a similar setup at home. So, I want a lightweight yet powerful computer (bad back, etc.) that I can carry back and forth. I also don't need a laptop keyboard 95% of the time - hence a "Surface" design would be perfect. I'm also plugged in 98% of the time so battery life is not the top criteria for me either. So, this thing seems almost perfect to me. Being capped at 16 gigs of RAM is a bummer though.
mobile doesn't just means you want to use it "on the go" it can also means its very easy to take it from place to place. i wish it was ryzan too but ryzen = no thunderbolt
10:11 well yes, but not for the last 3 years. Fan noise is largely dependent on two factors; the design of the cooling solution, and the configured tdp of the chip (which can be done no matter which platform you go with, AMD or intel). In other words; in a thermally constrained environment, which a laptop is, the only thing that matters is performance per watt, and comparing the 12700h and 6800h, the amd chips performs better in 45w and under and the intel chip performs better at 45w and higher. As such, it is very likely that going with intel for a thin and light 2-in-1 was a mistake.
I see this is currently on sale and not sure if its worth the upgrade from my current surface pro 7 or if i should wait for them to iron out the product more before upgrading. I mostly use it for gamedev but havent gotten to anything extensive yet. Im wondering if this has worse battery than my surface pro.
Totally agree, it's battery life & temperature cap that drop performance totally disappoint me. I hope if there's new version of z13, asus can solve those issue
Thanks for the very detailed creative review. You did a fantastic job as I'm interested in creator productivity benchmarks rather than gaming. As far as I can tell, small ram, battery life, screen brightness are the biggest weakness for this device.
This video answered my main questions about content creation thank you so much. I'm personally curious to know if it runs Unreal Engine 5 well - though I think I will wait for the next iteration for now.
The Z13 runs UE5 with stock 3050Ti and XG Mobile. We personally use RTX A4000 and A5000 as eGPUs for UE5 with this Z13. The color on the 4K display in our unit is well accepted. We use Davinci Resolve Studio and Fusion Studio with Z13 on general purposes up to 4K res, just fine. For heavier task, we use the Zbook 17 and connect the RTX A5000 to it.
i just bought the limited edition acronym edition. im super excited and cannot wait to test it out. its easily the most expensive device i have ever purchased but it should suit my needs for the next 5yrs. hopefully.

one question, without the external GPU. is it still decent enough to open and adjust 3D drawings like Autocad at the costumer without freezing or lagging performance? and how long would the battery last? great video btw!! keep going
2022 version has the RTX 3050 Ti. The 2023 version increases to RTX 3060 (the Acronym version increases to RTX 3070 with 32GB ram, matching top spec'd 2023 Asus X13 redesigned model). Refresh rate also increased to 165Hz. I think either the Asus X13 or Z13 2023 would be the better path for better performance.
Hi, thankyou for this video, it was quite helpful. I would to hear your opinion on the drawing as I have heard it can be quite jittery. Would you be able to assist with advice on this? Is it the pen, program or the actual tablet that makes drawing quality not as clean and smooth? I use photoshop and illustrator to do my digital art, how does the drawing work out for these?
I never had an issue using my Bamboo Ink Plus, but I use it primarily to draw organic chemistry reactions and solve calculus problems. I think it would be something to try in person if you are able to do so.

It's on sale on asus canada for 1699 cad for i9 12900H and 1599 cad for AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS which should I buy, or should I buy galaxy book 3 pro 360 instead for my 4k video editing 🤔
That is always the comment if a small form factor joins a lot of performance. The next problem is the heat emission, in many case the processor will be even throttled.
Would the new G14 Ryzen 9 6900HS have no drop frame on Premiere Pro editing Sony/Canon 4K footage too? Adobe still doesn't utilize AMD....been waiting for a long time. Choosing between this Z13 and the new G14...
Did you keep it in the end? I was seriously considering buying one, but after using a laptop with a 4k OLED display for the last year I can't go back to an LCD. I love the idea of the Z13, but i'm thinking of getting the new Zenbook Pro Duo OLED instead.
@@Lee.S321 I did end up keeping it. I use it at home primarily as my mobile desktop hooked up to the XG Mobile. I found the display port is more stable than the HDMI when using external monitor. I do find it hard to swallow the price for the tablet and if I were to recommend the ROG series go with the Asus X13 for better price and battery. The new X16 is also out and that larger one has much more customization including RTX 3070 Ti I believe.
Its extremely difficult to find a AMD laptop with thunderbolt. My workflow absolutely requires thunderbolt so if slapping an AMD in this lost me my thunderbolt ports I'd be pissed at the fool that made the decision. They made the right decision to give me Thunderbolt 4.
Hey love your channel. I would love to know if the Microsoft surface pro 8 is a better buy than the Asus Rog Flow Z13 for a Photoshop artist on the go. As a secondary device
I was really looking forward to buy this machine for my CAD drawing since single core performance is the most important feature for me, buuut it's not a laptop and it's not for traveling with it since the battery is so poor. Buddy could you also orient to cad professional and not only to gamers and video editors, like! How long a single core can maintain any frecuency.... would be really nice.
I bought 12700h version of this machine. I would say that battery life is better in that version but still not upto the mark. I am using this in 3-in-1 fashion. Tablet, Laptop and finally connecting it to my RTX 3080 (Desktop and not XG Mobile) eGPU and external monitor. Overall, for me this machine is versatile and has worked well.
@pSyientist I have not tried x13 myself but stories surrounding x13 are positive as well. Why not also check for 14 inchers like Razer Blade 14 or Zephyrus g14 if laptop form factor is suitable for you?
how about the Asus ROG Flow Z13 with Intel Core i9-13900H (13th Gen), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 (6 GB), 16 GB RAM, 1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. Will this perform well with Autocad 3D
I am not trying to sound negative, but the concept they showed for the mothership I was hoping they were going to make a Scar 17 like product with a removable keyboard. Personally if they wanted to target gamers they might have been better off going that route
i tjought that could be my blender/zbrush on the go tablet, their is just nothing else on the market that can be use for 3d on the go, you need a discreet gpu, biut batery life is too poor, i thought we had efficiency core now like a m1, let's hope for an amd version
I kinda understand why this device would appeal content creators on the go since most of the Adobe's suit of software are Intel-biased in terms of optimization.. but yeah, 100% agree with you.. putting in a processor this power-hungry (even for normal laptop-standard, albeit better efficiency than prior generation) is a bad move & they should've put the Ryzen 6900HS instead (I've seen reviews that the battery life of the 2022's X13 is about up to 5 hours longer than 2021's) - hell, put in a 6800U if they have to & this thing will perform pretty competitively but with million times better battery life that's perfect for a laptop, let alone a tablet like this. I just wish that Adobe can significantly optimize their creative apps for AMD's silicon.
It feels like you were comparing it to a laptop and not a tablet. There is a reason you.kept saying laptop and not tablet. A comparison to an iPad pro would of been more accurate in my opinion
i need help idk what 1 to buy out of the 2 Lenovo Legion 7 5800h 3070 or Asus ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition im from the uk so both of time are at the same price at 1500£ its mostly for gaming and light browsing
If they make a 14-inch OLED version (the current panel sucks, I've seen it live, it's pitiful, let's face it). With a bigger battery (since then the space is there), 56Wh not even 2 hours do you do with Google Chrome/Opera/Edge.... eating up all the resources with its awesome CEF or whatever, like GPU with DLSS/RTX eating watts like they are chips. Then damn these mini trackpads, it's so much space, why make a square. This tablet/laptop has always been a dream, however on 2000-3000 I expect quality. Another thing on a gaming PC 1TB is nothing, why put a chipset that supports max 1TB, so you can't expand...bhoo. Before they put a solution, they reflect or not.... If they play the saving game on 3000 euros people think 1000 times....
The new competition form factor and gaming is like the Nintendo Switch. Steam released the Steam Deck that opened the Pandora's box on the current mobile console market. GPD and One Netbook, both Chinese companies, have their own Windows UMPC sized devices that look like a cross between a Sony Vaio UX and Nintendo Switch. Asus just announced the ROG Ally to contend with the Steam Deck as well (and the supposed future Sony handheld).
Asus should have designed this tablet where the battery is removable and can be changed on the fly because it's using a power hunger APU which lowers battery quicker. This tablet is a poor choice for nomads in the middle of nowhere without a power source available to recharge the tablet!
They went with i12 instead of ryzen 6000 series cause of the XG mobile. Ryzen would bottleneck if XG mobile was used (guess they studied x13 very closely). What I believe they could have done better is to throw in a free egpu case and let consumers decide to purchase their own PUS and desktop grade GPU should they wish to do so.
@@geniumme2502 Just simple one, cutout to fit that 2 1/2 3090 size, more fan and psu fan change, from louder than the z13 turbo mode, now the Z13 is louder than the razer core v2 in performance mode and way silent than turbo mode
6 hours?!?! Bruh none of the surface devices that brag about 24h battery go beyond 8 hours of usage so 6 hours is a fair result for a friggin 16 core i9?!?!?! DOES ANYONE HAVE EYES, CAN ANYBODY SEEE!?!?!?!??! AAAAARARRHHRHHH XD XD XD
Is the battery a bottle neck with the hardware you have? I don't think so and you are being way to hard. You only have a 4 cell 56w battery pushing a fat CPU. You really expecting 12 hours of use? come on now. Take into account the power brick, at least it isn't the size of two cement bricks you would carry around. It is small and square. To be fair would I have wanted to see 8-9 hour battery life. Sure I do on a device this large, but if you want that, go for the surface pro 8. It has a weak processor, weak memory, no dedicated GPU and it will get you 8-9 hours of battery life. Honestly, what this sounds like is a person complaining that they have a 1000hp car and can only go 200 miles while that there other car, though still face and only has 800hp can go 400 miles. There are so many variables tat goes into this and for a 13 inch packing all that power, in such a small chassis and still gets over 6 hours, is still impressive. as far as ram goes, depends on what creative work you are doing and how much you have going on. You say 32GB is enough, I say no it is not. I max out on 32 gig on my normal rig when I have premiere, encode, and photoshop on. But on the go, my surface has only 16 gig of ram and if I am only doing premier or encode or photoshop (but no all at the same time) 16gb is way more than enough. With that being said, your other points on this tablet are solid and on point.

@@celinek2690 cuanto te dura la bateria de la z13 con programas pesados y uso basico?
Me ofrecen una con i7 12 y rtx 3050
Do you have any charging issues or keyboard issues that i read in the ROG forum?
Hello Sir, can you review the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 pro, I kinda need a 16 inch budget laptop for my job! Thanks Sir!
for legion 7 broo
Could be a good pick! I hope to review one soon!
Really great reviews! When will you get a Asus M16? I would like to watch the video with comparing M16 and G14 for 3d.
I want to buy this but the battery life is too huge of a turn off. If only it came shipped with Ryzen.
There is a unit with a Ryzen 7 processor ASUS ROG Flow X13 GV301RE-LI134W…
Hi, do you mind to help me measure the thickness of the bottom of the z13? I wonder if it can fit the Brydge keyboard for surface pro
Can we still use it when we forgot to bring the keyboard?
How long a single core can maintain any frecuency.... would be really nice.
yah me to want use to revit view at project
Asus needs to give the customer a choice of which APU they want instead of forcing customers to use Intel only for this tablet package!
Hello there, just so you know fan speeds on the Macbook Pro are controllable using a free app called Macs Fan Control
@pSyientist No. Asus doesn't comes with international warranty to my knowledge.
What eGPU do you use?
@@phillipph7205 Gigabyte RTX 3080
how much battery life are you getting on average day to day usage?
sounds like you should had picked up the ryzen 9 6000 one at best buy
how about the Asus ROG Flow Z13 with Intel Core i9-13900H (13th Gen), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 (6 GB), 16 GB RAM, 1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. Will this perform well with Autocad 3D
it will
7:04 he meant to say 16 by 10
6GB gpu, wireless keyboard would be nice
Love the thermals at 60C 🤣🤣 you clearly did not stress the Z13
Hope they do Ryzen 6000 version
Could I change the SSD to 2T?
Same id like to.know if u can. Change it to a 2 tb ssd
I am not trying to sound negative, but the concept they showed for the mothership I was hoping they were going to make a Scar 17 like product with a removable keyboard. Personally if they wanted to target gamers they might have been better off going that route
Remember when we didn't know what to call the thing between a phone and a tablet so we called it a phablet?
The Flow Z13 is a tabtop or a laplet......
i tjought that could be my blender/zbrush on the go tablet, their is just nothing else on the market that can be use for 3d on the go, you need a discreet gpu, biut batery life is too poor, i thought we had efficiency core now like a m1, let's hope for an amd version
If this top tier laptop has the same price as the iPad pro I still choose this unless the iPad m1 pro can run mac os for creative working
Should have came with ryzen 7 6800u!!
Maybe with zen 4 next year..............
Take a shot every time Rick moranis here says creative professional.
Last you all day for classes and when you go back to your room ...
you start gaming, hahahaha
As disappointing the battery is this device on Best Buy is only 1100 on sale so I can’t complain too much
I kinda understand why this device would appeal content creators on the go since most of the Adobe's suit of software are Intel-biased in terms of optimization..
but yeah, 100% agree with you.. putting in a processor this power-hungry (even for normal laptop-standard, albeit better efficiency than prior generation) is a bad move & they should've put the Ryzen 6900HS instead (I've seen reviews that the battery life of the 2022's X13 is about up to 5 hours longer than 2021's) - hell, put in a 6800U if they have to & this thing will perform pretty competitively but with million times better battery life that's perfect for a laptop, let alone a tablet like this.
I just wish that Adobe can significantly optimize their creative apps for AMD's silicon.
It feels like you were comparing it to a laptop and not a tablet. There is a reason you.kept saying laptop and not tablet. A comparison to an iPad pro would of been more accurate in my opinion
The 15 inch version this suller will have a 6800hs amd..
i need help idk what 1 to buy out of the 2 Lenovo Legion 7 5800h 3070 or Asus ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition
im from the uk so both of time are at the same price at 1500£
its mostly for gaming and light browsing
I wish next z13 will have 6900hs & 6800m like in new Asus Zephyrus G14
i think, we should just stick to a standalone consoles solely for gaming.
This tablet is a poor choice for nomads in the middle of nowhere without a power source available to recharge the tablet!
it is made for professional gamers and gamemakers game tester and rewiev
They went with i12 instead of ryzen 6000 series cause of the XG mobile. Ryzen would bottleneck if XG mobile was used (guess they studied x13 very closely). What I believe they could have done better is to throw in a free egpu case and let consumers decide to purchase their own PUS and desktop grade GPU should they wish to do so.
It is why I use the Asus Z13 as a permanent mobile desktop with the XG mobile and external monitor.
No they used Intel for thunderbolt support due to the limited I/O as compared to the x13
I think I will wait for gen 2
Might as well buy a laptop, the battery life is a deal breaker for me.
What's wrong with you bro ?? Why the F you didn't show Proart studiobook's benchmark for AE ??
please review stylus pen,,
Thanks for the feedback. I will see what I can do.
Intels horrible battery life really kills this tablet, 4 hours with everyday usage
also really heavy and chunky
Hey he has enabled Hindi captions!!
this is a more professional gaming testing and editing....and all audio visual ai modeling apps
They have to use Intel chip because AMD doesn't support Thunderbolt, which means, NO EGPU FOR AMD!
Ryzan cpu in that form factor would have heating issues
Why intel? very easy. No TB3 on AMD.
Yup2, Z13 TB3 + Razer Core V2 Modded (Rtx 3090) = Butter
@@jaehyo8034 what did you mod on your V2?
@@geniumme2502 Just simple one, cutout to fit that 2 1/2 3090 size, more fan and psu fan change, from louder than the z13 turbo mode, now the Z13 is louder than the razer core v2 in performance mode and way silent than turbo mode

use a power bank for this thing lol, btw who ever uses their laptop above 6 hours without any power nearby?
Dont compare it to other laptops, is it hard for you to realize that its not a laptop its a tablet. Wtf with this guy
Yeh, another youtuber who "forgot" to mention the annoying high pitch fan noise!
Do you have any charging issues or keyboard issues that i read in the ROG forum?
@@ugoaccessories7895 - nope, at least not until now… I‘m using the original charger as often as a third party one… Using both usb-c ports frequently to charge… No issues…
The only annoying thing about it is still the high pitched noise, produced by fans 🤷♂️😅
