    Just found this. Was researching and the adapter you used might work on my newer ford splines shaft. But for other who watch this video! If you’re unsure what you’re doing PAY A PRO to do it. There is too much liability if you do something wrong! Trust me. A friend killed his girl when his wheel came off during a turn. It sucked!!

    Hey brother I know this video is 2 years old but for future reference to everyone seeing this. The reason his steering wheel is grinding when turning is due to the clock spring. Clock springs MUST be removed, they are a piece of the airbag system and they are useless when you install aftermarket quick releases.

    • @rayregnogarage
      @rayregnogarage  2 года назад +3

      I left mine on because when I broke the clockspring on my xterra, it caused some problems. The blinker didn’t reset on its own anymore after the wheel straightened and a few other things. i replaced the clockspring on the x and everything is good again. didn’t make a difference on the ranger for me

    • @brandonjohnson3566
      @brandonjohnson3566 2 года назад +1

      Ah ok. I know that NRG makes two different hub adapters 1 is 161H which has a fake clock spring for pre 98 fords which is also a short hub. The 1 your using is 162H which uses the clock spring but it's a tight fit which rubs the steering shaft mounting bracket.

    • @rayregnogarage
      @rayregnogarage  4 года назад +1

      Glad I could help! Just a warning, there are a few nuances to it. Once you get the hub on, it's really hard to get off the truck. One of my viewers mentioned that the spline doesn't match perfectly so it kinda jams on there. Also, It's best to trim the hub adapter a bit if you want to run a horn. I talk about it more in this video. Watch this one before you do the install. I made the mistake of just forcing the hub adapter on there.. and I ruined the clock spring. So I have the horn ghetto rigged for now.
      ruclips.net/video/CNPR5JYdEQM/видео.html
      I'm probably gonna run and get a replacement clock spring out of a junk yard truck. The Hondas are WAY easier to work on.
      The steering wheels come off so much more easily on the Hondas.

    • @deezypnw9284
      @deezypnw9284 4 года назад

      @@rayregnogarage I was wondering about the fitment because NRG has the 97 and up ranger listed for the hub, hopefully the person that got it stuck probably misaligned the splines and forced it, I couldnt see any manufacture using various splines shafts for their cars.. Keep cost and production cost down.. Hopefully I'll get it to work smooth. Having a function horn with a aftermarket wheel will be nice. I never use cruise anyway.

    • @rayregnogarage
      @rayregnogarage  4 года назад

      @@deezypnw9284 Ya. I didn't notice any misaligned splines on mine. But it was pretty much impossible to pull off the factory wheel the way I did it on the Xterra. I had to use a steering wheel puller. The wheel puller won't fit on the hub adapter though so I need to find another way to get some leverage on it. I did have to trim the plastic on the clock spring. And if I do end up pulling it apart again to fix the horn, I'll shave down the hub adapter so there's room for the horn wiring to be accessible.

      The wheel will fit on the quick release or directly on the hub. I like this one because it's flat and gives you way more room. 350mm is also an ideal size because it allows you to see the instrument cluster easier. the 320mm is too small.

    Hmm. I am 6'6", so I want to extend the steering wheel. Put quite a bit of love into my Ranger, so a removable wheel to avoid it getting stolen/because they're awesome would be sick. The only kicker is all of my cruise controls are built into my current wheel as well. You didn't remove the coil spring right? Just the plastic cover over it?

    • @rayregnogarage
      @rayregnogarage  3 года назад

      You can get steering wheel spacers to get the wheel closer to you. I didn't remove the coil spring itself. although, I have seen people mount their cruise control buttons on the dash instead of on the wheel. I've been meaning to try and figure that out on my Xterra. On the Ranger I don't use it at all so I just ditched it. Going to remove the module completely. haha. Did that this week on my Integra since I don't use it there either.

      Collin Wiedel At the moment, no. The horn isn’t working. The wiring was much more straight forward on my Xterra. In all honesty, it probably is just an issue with the wiring connectors being different. The Xterra plugged right into the hub wiring. But not the same on the Ranger. I haven’t taken the time to figure it out yet. Haha. But I’ll play with it today. I did a swap on an Acura Integra recently, and we ended up mounting the horn bottom on the dash. As long as you can locate the actual horn wire, it’s pretty easy. Stand by. I’ll figure it out and post a video of it soon. Cus I want my horn back. haha

      I found a Momo Hub adapter on Amazon that says it will fit 84-97. But it looks really tall. Much taller than the NRG. You could try the same part number I used from NRG and if it doesn’t fit, Amazon is good with returns. The 84-97 rangers are identical mechanically. So it’s a safe guess that it would PROBABLY work.

      I put a link to the one I used in the description of the video. Also...
