Definitely agree that we all need to find the right substrate for us for propping! I have found my go to is a 50-50 of fern fibre and perlite. Then in a prop box situation on top of heat mat, loads of water and humidity. They root and grow like crazy for me ❤ I 💕 hoyas, if I lived in the US I'd be snatching up load of your babies 😂
Hi Gena, hope you’ve had a great day. Fun fun video for me. I enjoy watching you cut and prop. You just make it look so easy and you made a lot of new Hoya babies. I up potted about 20 of my indoor hoyas today. I hope you have a great week. Stay warm ❤
Really enjoyed this Hoya propping video. It would be twice as long if I'd done it because I sure cant chat and pay attention to what Im doing at the same time!!😮😅 Its 6 degrees. (Feels like -9) At 9am in Canon City this morning!! My big Weimaraner Sky is so skinny since his recent surgery, he FINALLY decided a coat is a good thing this morning!! I was hoping it was warmer in northern Colorado, Gena!! Only one more day/night of this frigid weather then a little break!! Stay warm everyone!!🙏🤞👏🙌
Hahah it's very difficult to talk and prop...actually the most difficult thing is talking and writing at the same time. I thought Monday was going to be the coldest day but yesterday was actually colder in the morning than today...so that's a win!!! :D Glad you enjoyed the video!!!! You stay warm too :)
Hello Gena!! I made the cookie recipe twice more. My family and I love them! 😊Yea, the Cal. Fires are so heartbreaking…hopefully they can get up and reconstruct soon. By the way, I was more introverted before this plant channel. Now it is easier to express myself. 😊
Hi, Nina!!!! Yeah...so tragic. I watched another video this morning (I keep getting recommended them now on RUclips). This person had such a great attitude about it. I don't know how they can be so strong. I'd be sobbing. I'm so glad your family loves the cookies!!! I need to make another batch. I was planning to do it today but I'm not sure I'll have time. Tomorrow if not today :). I'm glad your channel helped you express yourself better. I would say mine has too :) Have a great new week!!!!
Before I discovered the pins, I used the old-fashioned bobbie pins. Not the tight ones but those other ones that were like a big U. I prefer to prop directly to soil. That's what the pros do. The key to direct to soil is being able to provide consistently damp soil, humidity and heat. If I'm out of room in my prop boxes, I do still sometimes throw cuttings in water in my kitchen window sill.
Do you mean like the kind you use for rollers? Or something else? The pins are great and you can get a bulk amount of them on Amazon for a decent price which is nice. That's what I did :). Yup to all that you said...and not letting them dry out is very important as you said.....humidity, heat, light, and consistently moist soil. All necessary for success :).
@@ThePinkTrellis No, they are actually called hair pins. They are like an open U rather than the bobbie pins that are tightly together. But yea, you can buy the strawberry pins now in bulk so cheap.
We both really loved this video! The first thing Jen said when she saw you cutting up your Nova ghost was we could cut up mine, oh hell no I did tell her we could cut up my Wilbur Graves and my macrophylla. She wants pieces all I want to send some to my sister when the weather's better. Best to start the plants now to send later. The begonias that we propagated are doing good, they've got new growth but we can't see Roots yet. It's only been 4 weeks though. We thought it was a nice chatty video and we're looking forward to the pottery and the crystals in your shop. Bruce got all the things to make your cookies and now we just have to find a day to get it done. My newest plant is the begonia pavonina, and I just bought my first c a u d e x Brazilian Edelweiss. I did buy a hoya pink silver ghost call my head is been happily living under a dome in the light from my cabinet, G I wonder where I got that idea? I have had some new crystals come in and I did buy a couple of towers yesterday but there is always room for another Crystal LOL💚💚💚
Sounds like you've gotten some FUN stuff!!!!! It can be sooo hard to chop up some plants. I'm pretty good about it but that Hoya decipulae...lol I'm waiting as long as I can on that one. I have the sinningia leucotricha too and it still has it's leaves that it grew in my care!!!! I am loving these caudex soooo much. I still would like to get a Phyllanthus mirabilis but I'm waiting for warmer weather on that one. Glad you guys enjoyed this video. Thank you both sooo much :).
-8 here this morning! This is why I didn’t do a big plant shop update this week. I didn’t want to send a bunch of plants out into this weather. I hope this is as cold as it gets and it warms up again for everyone 😊.
Next time I'll try to get you in closer. May have to change up where I film for that :). Dirt is the best for me. Remember to be successful you'll need warmth, humidity, and light. And don't let them dry out.
Oh my gosh!!! YES!!! LOL. Nora pretends to chew on it but I think she more just tastes it. Nicky goes to town LOL. He crunches it. He's especially fond of amazon bags and tape. Oh and those tyvek envelopes from the USPS. He's been given his very own to chew on (he can't eat it, just punctures it with his teeth) so he leaves everything else alone. Kind of like how I give Nora her cat grass so she leaves the plants alone :).
Hi! I will definitely be doing more Begonia propagating but in the meantime, here is a video showing how I propagate them. It’s the second half of this video 😊 ruclips.net/video/l8hoAXmpgyU/видео.htmlsi=jpZpT-h-aV_tgd02
I’m watching this video now and yes…. I made your cookies and they are yummy! I heard you say you only eat one a day.. I need your will power because I ate the whole batch in two days 😢 Since almond butter and flour are a bit pricey, that will help control my appetite for them….hopefully
heheheh....I have eaten up to 3 (maybe 4!) in one day, but I can totally see how you can eat the whole batch in 2 days. They are soooo good :). Oh and honey is pricey too!!!! Unless you have your own beehives.
I am not sure if the soil method is working for me because I need more heat. I have had about 50/50 success. Of course I get about the same with water. Waiting now to see how enclosing the lower half of my big parrot cage in clear plastic makes a difference. I have three lights in that section and even though they are LED they put out a wee bit of warmth. And I also am running a small diffuser on low. Running it on high put out way too much humidity. On the hoyas in my prop cage are all to give my mother pots three stems in each pot. That seems to make a nice sized plant. Thanks for sharing all of this. I also love your thrifting videos!
Mine do get a ton of warmth in the grow tent which I'm certain makes a big difference. I hope that modified cage works well for you. You could always get a heat mat for it. Thanks Chris!!!! I'll do another thrifting video soon :). Hope you are staying warm. It was -8 here this morning. Supposed to be even colder tomorrow.
Fun video, made me feel like coming over and helping! :-) What tape do you use to label the plants? Just curious. "Someone's in the litterbox" made me choke with laughter. Just hit a funny bone. Have a great night.
I like the tape you use because I can take it off and re-use it. Latest awesome hoya's purchased are: Mathilde Variegated and Hoya Cutis Porcelana (nominate form)
Another funny line, "this may upset you but I just chop off that leaf". Big tears laughing. So I guess I did shed a tear. The variegated wayetti.............. gorgeous.
Thanks Tamra!!!! It's called gaffer's tape. I learned about it from Derek who knows about it from his work in the entertainment industry. It's what they use a lot on sets. It's great tape!!!! Hehehehe glad it made you laugh :). Have a warm cozy night too!!!!

Hi, Sylvia!!!! Thanks so much! That's a lot of up-potting! I hope you have a great week too :).
Loved this video thank you 💚🌱
Thank you so much :)
Loved the video as always. I like propping Hoyas in soil too ❤
Thanks Aubrey!!!! Soil rocks....especially when it has rocks (pumice) in it...bad joke LOL.

I'd be interested to see what the polyneura does after you cut it. I think each vine will send out two new vines which would be really nice!

I am so scared to order plants in winter... I am in Colorado too, and last night it was -1 🥶. Can't wait for Spring 🫶

I also find propagating right into soil works best.
It's just easier I think. Mostly if you are planning to keep the plant in soil long-term anyways. And soil is my favorite medium :).
I am looking forward to warmer days to possibly purchase some of those lacunosa cuttings! Here I am in North Dakota with freezing temperatures.
We are freezing too!!!! I'll have lots in the spring/summer. Looking forward to warmer temps for sure :).
I wanted to be uo closer Gina but loved the video. I am suprised you prop in dirt gotta try it.

Thank you for sharing I love love Hoyas but it's unfortunate that I live in the Caribbean and I don't think you export here. Thanks for sharing❤
I love to share!!! Thanks for watching :).
Great Video Gena!! Cool bird shirt 💚🐦🌿
Thanks!!! I love birds!!! You know that LOL. Have a great week Duncan!!!!

@@ThePinkTrellis Yes I could do that. So far so good just not going as fast as yours are rooting. It was 17 this morning at 10 AM when I got up.

I have never been able to get my H.sunrise to sun stress, even on blast
Interesting! I've noticed that on my plants sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Maybe the spectrum of light makes the difference.
Macrophylla Red?
Not this time but probably soon. I've been putting it off. I'll definitely have them at some point.
