I love it when the Doctor uses his sonic screwdriver for actual SONIC things. Inverted sound frequencies is such a clever way of using it.
Oh I thought he was converting sound waves into light hence maestro sound and vision comment
@@Someguy1722 yeah, that's what is implied in the show, but the light things makes less sense in the real world, because we can totally cancel sound by simply reversing the sound waves. I think the light things was added by the producers to visually demonstrate that it is indeed the sonic that is cancelling the sound
@Someguy1722 I think "vision" means "creativity" in this context. You can see the Maestro reacting with surprise, and almost admiration, at the Doctor removing all sound from the area. They've never had someone try that before.
I love the switch between composed and unhinged with Maestro. Fantastic casting.

Honestly, the Doctor being scared because of the Toymaker, Maestro, and Sutekh makes perfect sense considering they're all powerful god-like beings (I mean, Sutekh defeated the Daleks, after all). Everything else? Not so much.
Ruby never seen The Doctor being scared like that before

So, I was suddenly very terrified of Maestro when they shorted the sonic with a tuning fork and water, more so when the plan was revealed.

They mention later in the episode that they’d been travelling for months.

But I haven't seen anything since BBC America stopped airing Doctor Who in Autumn '23.

I love it when they uses the waters ripple effects to bring back the sound, to me it shows that using the elements can break barriers and bring balance back to who ever uses it.. 😊
I think its more that the rapid fluctuations of droplets hitting the water overwhelmed the screwdrivers ability to invert the sound. There was just too many different sounds for it to invert.
Maestro was summoned by a tritone, and banished by a chord I can't read without the grand staff in place.
That's discord for you. Much easier to start than to stop.

I love how Maestro’s face goes slack and blanks as they listen for music, and then twitches into a huge ecstatic grin when they hit the fork and make a note. Jinkx really sold the idea of Maestro with that; it reminded me a bit of what Bill Skarsgård was doing in IT as Pennywise; exaggerated camp facial expressions interspersed with falling blank to give the impression of a strange thing not of our universe that is merely wearing a human face loosely draped over something much more terrifying

After discovering Doctor Who years ago (pre 2010), its been the noteworthy villains that kept me around, plus a few extras. The Weeping Angels, River Song, the Time Lord culture (before the stuff that was revealed during the female Doctor's run), the Mistress/Missy and now Maestro. I hope they keep making villains and characters as interesting as the ones I just named.
At this rate Jinx is gonna be the 1st queen to impersonate herself in Snatch Game.

I don't think he could manage to be intimidating when the moment called for it. Certainly not compared to the above.
I still do not understand how Ruby could have possibly known that he "never hide[s]" in their third adventure, only second Time/Space adventure together.
We only got 7 episodes of them together before the 2 party finale. Not nearly long enough for us to get overly attached to Ruby nor their friendship. I'm glad that that the series is partnered with Disney as the quality of graphics and ambition has grown, but can we go back to an at least 12 episode season/series? We need time to really get into these relationships and characters.
Implied timeskip
they went on many adventures between "Space Babies" and "The Devil's Chord." This happens with every Doctor, every season, that's what Big Finish covers mostly. This is not new.
There's a line in this episode that they've been travelling together for 6 months after the events of "Space Babies".
I know, it's a really odd decision and I still do not know why they decided to do that between the first two episodes of the series, especially with a new companion.
Edit: just to clarify the above, I think the timing is what I found odd for this. Usually the "adventures off screen" part takes place/implied to happen later in the series (e.g. series 1 RTD between "Doctor Dances" and "Boom Town"). Having the first couple of episodes sequential without gaps really helps viewers to get to know the new companion - they grow with them. By having adventures off screen, we miss out on that development of the character which I feel is really crucial and what they had got right with Rose and Amy. Just my take though.

@@KaliahSheDevil I've edited my message above to clarify what I meant; adventures off screen is common and longstanding for who, I just found the timing in the series really odd for this, as many fans did. Still enjoyed this episode nonetheless though and was my 2nd favourite of the series

This would have been at the top of my list if they did one thing...put in a song the Beatles actually sang. I totally understand one would have to sell their kidney because of copyrights, But, Twist n Shout wasn't their song and theres no copyrights. It could have been used. Then they could have sung that awful dog song and there's a twist at the end.

They really are and it's hilarious. On some of the other RUclips posts, they really go after Jinkx. They think they're being cool about it, but you can see the tops of their heads blow off. HILARIOUS!
While some may disagree, I think the Maestro was done...decently. I don't watch the show, but Maestro's introduction gave me Ursula vibes. The motivation was interesting, and her powers extending to even the vibration of molecules made her a force to be reconned with. Some may complain about the actor being a drag queen, but it was a good choice, IMO. A drag queen voiced Ursula, and she was a good villain. While not everyone will agree, woke or not, I can say that Maestro was done well without bias or guile.
