You're my hero. DJI should provide an option to mute this damn thing, it's WAY too loud. IMO, there's a deeper psychology behind this whole thing. I believe muting would be an option from a capitalist company, but because DJI exists in a totalitarian society, they're used to rules that "force" them to be "safe," so it doesn't occur to them that some of us would prefer the freedom to "risk" losing the drone due to our own negligence.
Love it! Glad to know that there are people who still do hard modifications. I used to make modifications on my early computers. (Like real old as in Commodore and Apple equipment). Good to see what's behind the cover on these. Thank you for sharing your experience and fun time with us! Looking forward to watching more and learning more. 👊😎
Thanks! :) Oh yeah. I grew up with Commodore 64 :) I still have it, haven´t been turned on for 20 years. Maybe I will have to change some caps to get it working. We will see. Worst case I just have to send it to 'Mr Carlson's Lab' :)
i did a less intrusive mod to quieten the buzzer reather than remove it and drill the case.. just use some bluetack, hotglue or foam to push in to the buzzers hole and it makes it nice and quiet.. still functions, doesnt annoy the hell out you and doesnt de-value the control
Thanks for this guide. I was able to install a 3mm blue LED and 1.5k resistor (even quieter) and now I don't have to listen to the annoying beeping for the last 20% of the battery. Also, for us Americans, a 7/64 in (~2.8mm) drill bit works well for the LED hole
I also did away with the horrid controller buzzers in all of my remotes- but I included a switch and a vibration motor from a scrapped phone + plus a small driver FET in my mod. Now I can switch to silent with vibration feedback instead which is really nice when I'm flying in 'stealth mode' (with Bluetooth earpiece for app audio)! 👍
This is how people who are good with electronics have fun. Whether it's over kill or not does not matter. They can so they will. I like this mod, that beeping can be very annoying. I would for sure destroy the remote if I tried this.
Wouldn't it be easier just quickly press power button onece and control goes silent mode. Also you can also turn remote volume with your phones volume button while it's connected. I've had my mini 2 for about month and figured that out.
The possibilities are endless! :) Good idea. You see, I do a video and I let you guys do the rest of the thinking! 🙂 That will build a good modder community!😉
Pressing the power button once only silences it briefly, if at all. It immediately starts beeping again, if under 15% battery, and it does not work at all when below 10% battery. Also, the volume buttons on the phone are completely independent of the RC speaker, and have no effect whatsoever on the internal RC speaker, SADLY!
I wish i could mod my mini 2 like you do…that’s so cool 😎. Do you mod hardware only or are you able to mod the mini 2 software aswell? Would be awesome if you could mod the software and give the drone a tracking system 🤔👍🏻. Great video !
Your voice and tempo of speaking reminds me of the guy in the movie Ironman. The guy in the cave who saves Tony Stark's life by connecting him to a car battery to keep the shrapnel from entering his heart. Can't remember his name. No matter. Good content 🙂
Excellent presentation of some very cool modifications. You mentioned possibly adding some additional quick shots. I've seen people do this supposed "hack" of the feature "follow me" which is not offered in the mini 2. (It's manipulating the drone into acting as if it has the follow me feature) It would be extremely useful and cool if that feature could somehow be added to the mini 2 (which is the 1st & only drawn I currently own)
Thanks! :) I am working on some ideas, but no breakthrough yet. A workaround could be to walk the path you want the drone to follow you on, in a specific pace. Have the controller in hand and drive the drone to actually follow you along that path and record it with the autopilot mod Part3. Then go back to the beginning of the path, and make the autopilot recreate the same "follow you flight", and just walk down the path... :) I would do that. The main thing to consider is wind!
@@ZollyD I'm not sure how "follow me" works with the other DJI Quad Copters. Except that you lock into the person on the video screen green box is drawn around you to ask is this what you want to follow and you click yes and it follows you not sure of how. This is my first drone the mini too and I've only flown it twice even though I've owned it for 2 months. But I will be extremely interested to see whatever you come up with because you have great ideas
Hey zolly I love your channel and I was going to do this mod but I have a question when you put the tape on it does it quiet the voice like how it says home point updated please check it on the map does it quiet that or just the beeping like the low battery working etc? Please answer I’m subbed if that makes you want to answer aswell
Hi. Sorry for the late reply. If it still matters: the tape only makes the annoying beeping quieter. All the other speech is coming from your phone speakers actually. If you fly without the phone, you dont hear homepoiny updted message
Nice mod but isn't there a way to maintain the beeping but quieten the sound? Maybe muffle it with a foam or rubber pad? EDIT- I commented a little early, just watched the bit where you use tape over the buzzer. LED is a nice visual warning as well.😎👍
Thats a beautiful thing right there. My RC will not calibrate so my controller beeps 100% of the time and either im going to return it or im going to SMASH it into 1000000 pieces
I wander if there is room for a potentiometer next to the led. You can connect to the buzzer instead of the 1k resistor, and have un adjustable volume for the buzzer.
Electrical tape didn't work for me, even multiple layers. What did work is piece of Uhu patafix, and piece of electrical tape on top of that, so it doesn't get stuck to the controller housing. I would say it's 90% silenced.
I always felt that the up and down wheel for the gimbal on the controller needs to be inverted. I am a pilot and to me pulling should be up.. So...... Is it possible to change this? Thank you for all you do for me. I have learned alot from you. We have similar ideas but you are an educator. Great videos man. Peace.
The connector at 04:41 is for the gimbal wheel. If you flip the positive with the negative then the adjustment direction will be reverted. So from the 3 wires the middle one and the white has to be flipped. Best done on the small PCB at the wheel after removing the silicone. :) I am happy that you learned stuff. Keep up the curiosity for everything! :)
I also requested of DJI to provide true joystick customisation so that the up/down joystick could be inverted because I dived into Loch Ness while flying like a fixed wing.... Pulled instead of pushing.
@@neiljolliff8170 You don't need DJI to reverse the throttle or any stick movement. In DJI Fly, just go to three dot menu, control, Stick Mode, Custom. That can be from the joystick potentiometers being out of calibration. Advice for the future: When screwing on the sticks for the controller do not tighten them too hard. It can destroy the pots inside. If your remote is beeping because of that, then the joystick module needs to be replaced. (I am just guessing here) Otherwise I would just try to live with it.... ANYONE HAS BETTER IDEA OUT THERE??? :)
I would try getting it replaced under warranty mine was dodgy too but not that bad mine only did it at the start but i think they have had quality control problems because of the problems everyone has been dealing with this last few years probably a lack of staff and the huge amount of drones being sold but as far as i know they are ok about returns . I don't think so. Though if you have problem with the drone they may not need the controller. But I would NOT do any mod if I would be concerned with warranty.
I done it and it is quieter and I was super careful but now the button opposite to the fn button what has a camera on it doesn’t work, tried for hours fixing it but no matter what couldn’t do it and now the remote keeps loosing connection at random times for no reason, zolly please if you know why the button isn’t working and or the remote has started to cut in and out for no reason even when it’s within 12 meters and automatically returns to home every 5 minutes usually 2, 3, maybe sometimes 4 times when I’m flying could you tell me so I could fix it?
