Hey I'm having some issues .. I already CRT certified and have my associate's degree in respiratory therapy from texas university ... to prove I have good customer service..I have got an associate's degree in hospitality BUT I have no experience in respiratory therapy... and called around and they dont care about my 1yr volunteer experience .. they want 1yr experience with pay... so now I'm stuck ... If I need agencies.. which ones specifically?? Websites?? I need one that can connect me with somewhere ... where I can work with 0 experience but with pay. What have you done ??? What have you heard?? Thankz
wanna ask a question that, if you are interested to go to medical school and do a running start program with 2 year respiratory therapy as associate degree , and then go to pre medical college and so on , and work part time as an RT will it be possible ?
I was told that a major in Respiratory therapy on a pre med track is a great thing to do if you’re leaning toward anesthesiology. What are your thoughts on that?
I think RT is the title and RRT means you are registered (you have passed the competency exam) and can officially work as a RT. Kinda like nurses. You are either a LPN or a RN. Can’t practice as a nurse until you become licensed or registered.
can someone answer me, should we take a test before getting into the respiratory therapist program? Before the program, not after it (I mean after taking the prerequisites)
It depends on the school you’re trying to get into. 2 of the schools in my state require a standardized test for admission into their Respiratory Therapy program.
I got a little confused when you were explaining the education process. Once you get a Associates degree can you then take the state boards to get your license to be a RT?
I think the national average is $28/hr but like she said it varies from state to state. Also, she's working in a specialized field of PFT which typically makes less than someone working in a hospital setting.
Choose R.N., NOT respiratory therapist. Physicians refer to respiratory as 'ancillary', lumped in with C.N.A.s. Despite taking the same general education, prerequisites and sciences respiratory earns about 20% to 30% LESS THAN R.N.s. R.N.s and M.D.s ate lunch, conversed idly, and even dated/married; yet, NEARLY never, can the same be said of the LOWLY respiratory therapist. My usual contribution to the 'team' was, " SaO2 is something %" followed by, "ok, ya sure", by the Pulmonologist. 37 years of such 'team work' was not pleasant, or worth it. Further, the nature of the discipline greatly diminishes the areas needed, thus opportunities are diminished. Choose R.N., NOT respiratory therapist.

This kind of videos are so informative thank you so much Dr Webb your hard work is truly appreciated! Thank you from a pre med student 👨🎓

RT life!!! . Thanks for this one Dr. Webb.
You are welcome!

89prettywings it depends. Yes, respiratory & anesthesiology go hand in hand.
Tracey Tyson thanks!
Is there a difference between RT and RRT?
I think RT is the title and RRT means you are registered (you have passed the competency exam) and can officially work as a RT. Kinda like nurses. You are either a LPN or a RN. Can’t practice as a nurse until you become licensed or registered.
once you complete school do the hospitals require ALS and PALS? Can these be completed before finishing school? Thanks
Yes, depending on your speciality. PALS and ACLS would prob only be needed for Peds ICU and adult ICU specialities

Shaune Turner Yes
I am sure a licensed RT should get paid more!!
Yes
18-20 an hour? That's it? I didn't realize RTs are low wage workers? I thought they made at least 30 an hour.

Bro I wash cars for 13 dollars 18 - 20 is somewhat decent not gunna lie
Dude I was just as surprised when she said that. I work in Chicago as an RT with a masters and I make 33/hr
A lot of them do. Depends upon years and where you’re at.
That patient has restricted airways
Ironically....she seems out of breath
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Nah, she’s just nervous.
Just nerves my dude
Ohhh nice video. #notificationsquad
Loved it but come on plastic surgery 😫

$18-to$20 then why is school so damn hard? Thanks ill change careers
Use common sense. This video is old and it’s post pandemic
Average pay for new grad RRTs is $28 to $34/hr. Plus night shift and weekend differentials. $80 to $100k/Yr with some overtime.
