This was before tremors 3, so around the events of the 2nd one or just after, so it's reasonable to think that a good portion of the townspeople or whatever the actual population of people was, were be aware of graboids. Anyone within the outskirts at least, so for someone to be within that region and not have a clue, is suspect lol.

But IRL people think the moon landing was fake and Doctor Who has had killer mannequins, aliens kammikaze into Big Ben, giant spaceships appear during chrismas eve and a giant demon walked through Cardiff. So like Ghostbusters 2 people will deny anything.
