Thank you Dr Paul. May you please make a video about when to "divorce" your parents? Coming from an adult child whose parents refuse to respect the boundaries (and no, we don't rely on them for money, accommodation, babysitting, etc) and it's affecting the grandkids.

I would prefer to save and enrich key relationships. Let your parents know what you are thinking about and see if there is a way to work things out. If not, the decision is yours.

Thank you Dr Paul. Honestly, I'd prefer to work it out too, and I've been trying to communicate with them for years. It's now coming at the expense of my children so I'm getting to the end of my tether. I will try one more time :)

I would add a 10th principle in position #1 - guidance from the Lord. And I think also an 11th - a strong support system or at Least 1 other person on your side who is not convincing you either way but supporting you in doing what's right for you. If you don't have that support person(s), go out and find one\some! It's crucial!!!

#1 clearly doesn't apply for everyone but a support network might definitely be useful but sometimes if it is just shallow friends they might generate an echo chamber and guide you on a path that might not take you to 'joy'.

I agree, it is crucial. Develop your support system.

How to find the energy and the motivation to apply the principles. How to start again after a period of time when I have not been applying the principles. Applying these principles feels like being on a diet. I know I’m healthier when I follow the principle of healthy nutrition and I only hurt myself when I don’t. But sometimes I just don’t want to, especially because I feel like it’s a burden to have to be balanced and ok all the time. These are my questions. Knowing what to do and having the motivation to actually do it seem very far apart for me.

They became more of a habit when they are done over time and internalized. Hang in there and keep going. There will come the time when you won't want to do it any other way.

This makes sense. However, you do need to have attained a basic level of maturity to employ these principles in the first place. If you can (at least) understand the principles, you probably have a chance to develop them (and find joy).
