Hi Chris first video is ‘how teach stop whistle’ recently got a 3 year old springer who was let loose for couple years and this is helping bring his training back. Second video is ‘close enough is not good enough, it needs to be spot on’ this video has helped me realise how strict I need to be with the dog, he’d a tendency to creep when I stopped him which has started to get bettter the last week and can see an improvement already. Thanks for all the videos they are all very helpful.

Hi Chris, I’ve recently got a 3 year old springer who was fully trained and given to a lad who let him loose for 18 months or so, this is great advice to bring him back where I need him.

I have been taking your advice on training since I brought my pup home because I literally had no one to help me in the beginning with hunt training and the breed itself. At 9 months he is becoming quite the little worker I was hoping for all thanks to you. The big difference with me is I am also training him for agility. I am not a novice trainer/handler but he is my first cocker. Figuring out how his thought process is was the biggest adjustment. He is worked daily, alternating jobs, he has no issue, he is a little genius, I also do not let him run free as you state. Last weekend I brought the husband along to start to learn how to handle him for the field. He is 100% Novice in his handling, still after 20 years, ugh. The biggest issue he has and it's a common issue is his handling, it's not just about training the dog, it's about training the handler. People get frustrated when the dog is messing up or not being consistent and think the dog isn't listening. Truth of the matter in most cases, its the person who is not consistent, their body language is giving them mixed signals, the verbals are inconsistent. Training a dog, no matter the sport is reliant on the person who will be working with them. So while I totally agree with you saying its repeat repeat repeat, people need to take that same advice for themselves. I appreciate the videos, they have helped me tremendously, winter is over and we are ready to hit the bigger fields and move on to more advanced training. Can't wait to see what this little one can do. As always, thanks for the videos and great advice.

    Hi Chris,
I know this is going off the subject a little but with my dogs when we go out of the gate we train don’t just go for a walk. I have a young pup I’m training at the moment. I find a lot of people let their pups play with other pups but this isn’t something I do as I feel if they don’t get introduced to it they will show no interest in other dogs (and it seems to work) but people say oh pups need to be pups. Am I right or wrong?

Socialisation with other dogs is massively important for pups within boundaries of course. Same for with people.
