People who don’t analyze music tend to think Pac wasn’t as big until his death but it’s the opposite. There were only 22 No.1 albums in 1995, 3 of them were Hip-Hop, and 1 was 2Pac’s Me Against the World which stood at No.1 for 4 consecutive weeks. He also managed to do over 6-8 million sales in 1 year before his death in ‘96, and this was while having a double album with a larger than usual MSRP and a target audience who isn’t exactly swimming in capital. He also had 2 of the biggest charting positions for year end charts in Billboard, proving to be a top artist on the planet not just hip-hop. And this was all without the promotion and backing some other artists get. He also barely did features and released singles but still managed to have multiple hits which charted pretty high on weekly + year end charts.

Pac was not "always" bigger and more iconic than Snoop. Snoop was the most anticipated artist after the chronic and the biggest rapper in the world when Doggystyle dropped.
@@7Eightyone I believe Pac was already into acting along with his music and had 2 Gold/Platinum already at the age of 21. Pac took Death Row to a level it had never seen. Snoop definitely did his thing with his debut album but Pac was a bigger name with his music, acting and staying in the new with all the controversy surrounding him.
@@PigeonCoup not true. Pac's first album didn't even go gold until after his death. I think his second album might have reached gold but not platinum. Doggystyle sold more than Pac's first 3 albums COMBINED. 2Pac had one platinum album before coming to Death Row. The label had already put out 5 platinum/multi platinum projects. NONE of Pac's albums has sold more than Doggystyle even to this day. He added to the label no doubt but they were already #1.

And certainly not while he was alive. You got away from the point at hand though. Pac wasn't bigger than Snoop before he came to death row. Don't know how old you are but I was around then.
Great analysis, the peak is equal for all of them. This is true I was in 8th grade when doggy style came out and everything did stop. I was in HS when All eyes on me came out and everything did stop plus Tupac was a great actor and a movie star. When 50 came out everything did stop but I was in my early 20s then, it didn't hit me the way that Snoop and Tupac hit me.
I disagree with you. Yes they can reach a peak but I believe that raising the bar don't have a ceiling. Perfect example when Jay-Z dropped Blue print he raised the bar but when Nas came back with Ether he raised it higher. 2 pac raised the bar higher than Snoop
Doggystyle sold 800k 1st week back in 1993 when the population size was much lower than now and rap was way less popular something unheard of only rivaled until 10 years later when Eminem and 50 cent came on the scene and rap was much more popular and the population size was higher...Snoop was a household name for non-rap fans whereas Tupac was still a no name for the non-rap crowd even when he first died
I think Snoop's album "Doggystyle" was the most anticipated Rap album ever. I called Tower Records and the guy answered the phone, "Yes, Snoop's album is coming out on Tuesday."

50's album was bigger than every hip hop album except Carter 3, MMLP, and Eminem Show. I think each of those Eminem albums did at least 1 million in sales in the first week. Eminem probably did close to 2 million in first week. Those were NSync/Backstreet Boys/Britney Spears numbers
Yes I get your point, but I think that 50 in his peak was the most Notorious ever, till this day. Even he may not have done the best sells in the firsts week, 50 has been a brand since he blew up. @@dannydi9752 Thanks for sharing your opinion too 👌🏼 I just recommend to listen to the whole 50's first album (Candy shop was in the Massacre album not in get rich or doe trying). To me 50 is the most complete rapper: lyrics, flow, street credibility, science of the hooks, mc'ing, etc. He didn't only have club bangers, but a whole bunch of classics (many men, windows shopper, 21 questions, wanksta, what up gangsta, patiently waiting... and so on and so on). You should also keep in mind that 50 almost gave birth to Game, and to G-unit. He also signed Mobb Deep for a hell of an album, ans threw the remix of Outta Control with them which is also a big classic. I love tupac too, and all eyez me was a hell of a double album 👌🏼 Respet to all these legends!
The funny thing with Pac was that he was only trying to break into Acting but was being blocked on several occasions. So he said, "to help fill time and make some cash on the side". He'll make music till He breaks in the movies. Still he outshines those only dedicated to music when he was just killing time. Is that right ? Or no? And he didn't just effect hip-hop but the world in some , I guess I'll do this for a bit. Type shit.
Why is it that media outlets always try to compare or debate "who is/was better" when it comes to black entertainers (athletes, music artists, and actors, etc)? I have personally never seen that done when it comes to entertainers who are of another racial group. I wish we could appreciate greatness as it is instead of trying to belittle someone's accomplishments to uplift someone else's. I wish we would stop promoting this type of mentally as black people. Let's celebrate and appreciate that God has blessed us to see people who look like us being all-time great and reaching the highest of highs.

Pac captured the imagination in 95/96. Snoop was big living off Doggystyle from 93. I had little expectations when Snoops sophomore album came out in 96…and I wasn’t disappointed. He was overshadowed by Tupac..even in death.
Kurupt couldn't say this any better. Snoop was already the biggest hiphop artist before he dropped an album thanks to the chronic album. Doggystyle did over 800 thousand first week. If Dre didn’t have Snoop for the Chronic it wouldn’t of done what it did. Snoops voice blended perfectly with the new G-funk sound that Dre tailored around him
No he wasnt. 50 Cent's buzz was way bigger and legitimate. Because 50 sold over 5 million of each of his first 2 albums. Whereas Snoop sold 5 million of the first album and only 2 million of the 2nd one. Snoop's success was Dr. Dre production-driven. People bought his s^%% partly due to Dre's music
I grew up in LA during the 80s and 90s. When Eazy E came out he was it. Even though he was with NWA Eazy E was the next level guy. Then, Ice Cube was really big after that. But, Snoop was part of G funk. It was about partying and drinking and I think that was refreshing and DoggyStyle was amazing album. But, even though I was already listening before the Me Against the World album the All Eyez On Me album was the best album I had ever heard. Plus, it was 2 discs. Both CDs had a bunch of songs on them. Biggie was blowing up about then too and would have Life After Death with amazing tracks and also 2 discs. I believe Tupac reached a level that nobody has reached, maybe Eminem since then. But, no doubt it was Pac.

I don’t think it’s even close, he is more relevant today and he been gone 25 years!
@@7Eightyone Sorry but your wrong 😅😂😂😭 making stuff up huh Pac has sold over 75 million albums to this day to Snoops 40 million.
Doggystyle has sold 7 Million units to this day in the US and 11 million world wide while All Eyez on my went Diamond cut it out man. 2Pac Greatest Hits went Diamond as well. 2 Diamond Albums man. Like I said it’s not close man.
@@PigeonCoup maybe you need to look it up. And keep in mind All Eyez was counted as 2 units. Pac sold more overall but has nothing that outsold Doggystyle and it's sad that to you resort to including a greatest hits compilation. All Eyez DID NOT outsell Doggystyle.
Doggy Style and Get Rich Die Tryin

When 50 came with that album, everything stopped!! 🔥
He was everywhere, you couldn't watch TV or listen to the radio without seing 50 passing through. He also had the get rich or die trying movie which was huge. It still only remains my personal opinion as a 50 big fan 😉
that album was like another chronic
@@a.la.e7722 It's cool that your a 50 fan. But, in my humble opinion he had some club bangers but nothing memorable. All Eyez On Me by Tupac made 50s album seem like a pop album.
Bottom line is that not only was there music great!! So was the timing and everything aligned perfect for all them guys.

How so when an East coast album came out the same day and crushed it in sales?
Love Pac, but no Pac album was on Doggystyle level. Definitely the best westcoast album ever with the Chronic. The replay value is unmatched, too many classics songs. However, Pac's discography overall is superior.
ye sure but rap is about the message and while Doggystyle is good it lacks the deep social message that Tupac brings with his lyrics, just my opinion.
@@brimstonevalar6053 don't agree since hip-hop and rap was first about partying. Didn't had any deep message, just egotrip and wordplay. Then it evolves to deep social messages with songs like the Message from GMF, Afrika Bambataa etc. Let's not forget that. I enjoy both styles as long as the sound is good, and Doggystyle sound and vibe is unmatched if you ask me, along with the Chronic. Just speaking about westcoast golden era of course. But i totally get why some people would've prefered All Eyez On Me. It's obvously up there. I just feel like you can't ever get tired of songs like Gin and Juice, Ain't no Fun etc.
@@brimstonevalar6053 The question asked was who is bigger at their peak, not who id better? RIAA and Billboard confirm the answer to this question is Snoop.
@@FunkyKarim93 Doggystyle is a Dre album just like Ginuwine the Bachelor and 100% Ginuwine are Timbaland albums. Because after Dre and Timbaland stop working with Snoop and Ginuwine, Snoop and Ginwuine stop doing steller numbers. Whereas Pac's AAOM was not producer-driven. People bought Pac's album because of Pac. Not the stellar production. Also, The Game's Dogumentary is a better West Coast album than Doggystyle. K Dot's Good Kid is a better West Coast album than Doggystyle. Warren G's Regulate G Funk Era is better West Coast album than Doggystyle. There is not one song on Doggystyle that can f^^% with Regulate. Efil4zaggin and Eazy Duz It are better West Coast albums than Doggystyle. GTFOHSB!
@@dianevrules lmao, i know Doggystyle is a Dre album, who doesn't ? Your comparisons are off topic. We're talking about the same era, why would the Documentary/or fuckin GKMC be in the conversation ? But otherwise, this is your opinion, not a fact. I find Doggystyle to be WAY better than The Documentary, it aged better. A lot of popular albums from the 2000's aged really poorly. The Documentary is a good album, but not on Doggystyle level, not the same impact in the culture nor influence. Only songs i still listen occasionally from Documentary are Runnin' and Dreams. I agree on Warren G tho.
Kuruption!
Hate to disappoint you young Pac Super fans but AEOM wasnt the hottest album that came out at the time. The hottest album actually came out on the same day and crushed it in sales. And it was by an East coast group. I'll let you research that one. Dude is an all time great no doubt but stop romanticizing him like he stopped other people from selling records and that he destroyed the east coast.
Pac was BIGGER!!! Dude was bigger than rap!!!
2Pac was bigger once AEOM came out!
No, it was when orlando came out to the vegas and slumped pac
Pac had all guyz on him
Dmx albums are bigger than AEOM

Love you PAC
To 2Pac is still bigger then snoop.
Dude u ain’t keep it 100 to say pac wasn’t bigger jus shows your bias gtfoh
Pac
I dont know why this was even a question but I did not want to hear what kurupt answered. Its just that there's no comparison between snoop and Pac. No matter what snoop did, or does still. He will never rise as high as the great 2 Pac Shakur R. I. P.
Kurupt is being politically correct...he knows pac was bigger after all eyes on me ...before yea Snoop musically ...but people have to remember 2pac was a made man before def row cause of because he was a movie star !! Have he released 3 albums before DeathRow first album went gold second and 3rd over a millions Copies sold...me against the was number when he was in jail ..!!
Question is still who was bigger at their peak. Album sales and singles charts is Snoop. Doggystyle sold over 5,000,000 albums. All Eyez On Me sold 4,000,000. Pac never had a song bigger than Who Am I/What's My Name. Strictly sticking to the question asked, Dogg wins. The only 90's album close to Doggystyle is a Life After Death, and the biggest song is Crossroads. RIAA and Billboard search will confirm this. Pac is a bigger legend than Snoop, hands down. But the question asked is easily Snoop.
Big Facts!
Snoop was just music based. Pac was music and culture based. Pac made people get tatted up and all.
How you gon mention that clown fiddy in the same sentence. Doggystyle and All Eyez On Me are on a different stratosphere, smh
All Eyez On Me was BIGGER than Doggystyle. Because 2Pac dropped the first double album. Although it didnt sell almost 1 million in the first week (It sold over 560k) like Doggystyle (Doggystle sold over 800k in the first week). All Eyez On Me generating the most $$$ in a week. Because it was a double album that costed significantly more than Doggystyle. Also, 2Pac was BIGGER because consumers bought All Eyez On Me to hear Pac. Whereas Doggystyle consumers bought Doggystyle to hear Snoop and for the stellar production of Dre. Over 1/2 of the 5 million Snoop's Doggystyle purchasers did not support that weak af Tha Doggfather album or Da Game Is To be Told bs. Pac has posthumous albums that sold more than Doggystyle. Fake 60s Kurupt is kissing Snoop's a&&^
So you just basically said Dogg was bigger, but you like Pac better. Got it.
Facts
Tupac is bigger than Snoop Dogg there is nothing to discuss about that yeah he needs to school this guy on hip hop
I look at 2pac as like two different artists pre death row and deathrow pac the pre death row pac dear mama brendas gotta baby keep ya head up changes..That was cool..but he evolved after getting shot and getting locked up for that false rape case when he got out on bail he made some of the greatest music ever in hip hop California love was like a nuclear bomb at that time that song will forever be on the top charts in music period! most people don’t like his later years with suge dissing people and all that but I loved it you could hear the anger and revenge death in his music not to mention some of the greatest diss tracks ever written! Snoop will always be a great in hip hop but Tupac is in that bob marley Elvis frank Sinatra legend category!
Kurupt is wrong.. AEOM was BIGGER then Doggystyle.. 2pac was bigger.. PERIOD.
Peak is the key word.....🍇....... Pacs peak is rarely seen....... Snoop had a better intro into the game maybe... and even thats debatable cause Pac came in darker...whilst Snoop came in on more of a fun gangster vibe...... more of a preference..... But snoop to me never had a peak....just a great intro followed by legendary consistent run...... Pac during All Eyes on Me......again....was rarely seen. 🍇
