  • "Invisible: The Forgotten Story of the Black Woman Lawyer Who Took Down America’s Most Powerful Mobster," written by Stephen L. Carter, tells the true story of his grandmother, Eunice Hunton Carter 1921, granddaughter of slaves, as she persevered against racism and sexism in the 1920s through the 1940s, and became one of the first Black women to work as a prosecutor in the United States. Hunton Carter was one of 20 lawyers picked to help clean up New York City crime-the other 19 were white men. Here Carter talks about his book and his grandmother, joined by his daughter, Leah Carter, who conducted research for the book.
