    The correct phrase is “tide me over”. The term “tiding over” dates back to at the 1600s and refers to using the tide to move a ship over an obstacle. To “tide someone over” has had its current meaning since the 1800s.

    Instead of tie over I’ve only heard “tide over” or ‘take the edge off” in case someone’s really hungry
