I worked on deck in the Brit MN in the 60s and 70s. I went to pre-sea school as a boy and joined my first ship, a tanker like in the video, at 16yrs old. After further Navigation studies I gained the position of 3rd Mate, long trips of 4 weeks and short visits ashore did nothing for my social life so I left after six years.

In order to get a job on a ship what are the requirements? Age /Education/Experience?
That would depend on what you want to do on a ship, on deck, in the engine room, catering? All require different aptitudes.
