Felix had an amazing performance especially in end when he turned angry and vengeful.

I just watched the film on Netflix and was blown away by the acting, the cinematography, the direction, and the script (a great adaptation from the novel; more realistic for being a German language film). Felix's performance is amazing. And I've been a fan of Daniel ever since I watched the TV series, The Alienist. The film is incredibly powerful, even though it's utter realism left me emotionally drained. As a child I learned from my elderly grandfather and great uncle (who had both been wounded with shrapnel in WWI) about trench warfare, which was so horrific, and is so vividly depicted in the film. This film should definitely win the Oscar.

Can these two actors be any cuter or sweeter? Their genuine admiration of each other’s skill is delightful. I have not seen the movie because the story is one that tears me apart emotionally, but I may have to watch it because I am so intrigued.

on the one hand it of course can add a lot to a movie (e.g. "das boot", where you have crew members from all over germany/austria; and bavarian/austrian sailors sound so surreal, because of the distance of these regions to the ocean). but on the other hand our dialects can get in the way, when you have actors, that would fit a role ... if it weren't for their dialects, which are extremely hard to get rid of.
felix did an extremely good job, because (just as daniel said) i also usually immidiately can spot an austrian, but in his case i only found out he's from vienna after i watched the movie. in daniel's case it was a little different, because for a native german speaker it's quite easy to recognize, he's not from the south-west but just immitates it, and so his character feels 'somewhat wrong'. also albrecht schuch, who played kat, allegedly tried to adapt a working class dialect (from the ruhr valley?), but unfortunately sometimes just became outright unintelligible.

@@christelacindy143that's good, but you should know it's a curse and a blessing at the same time. :)
once you have the ability to spot it, you cannot 'unhear' it. and it's not just german vs. austrian (we didn't even mention the swiss yet), but also the different dialects within these countries. it sometimes even makes it difficult to take people seriously, when you hear the way they're talking.
take e.g. arnold schwarzenegger, who famously has a weird way of speaking english. the thing is he sounds just as weird to me, when he speaks his native language. these overemphasized and long vowels; he does the same in 'german' as well. even when he says something i would agree with, i just can't get over the way he does it.

Besides the remarkable performance of young Felix Kammerer, all should listen to the history the older actor, Daniel Brühl recounts. The true story of the prescient and forward thinking Matthias Erzberger should run a chill down the spines of all Democracy loving peoples in every country.

I really recommend this movie! I just watched this a few days ago and it’s really really good! In the movie Felix who plays Paul, when he’s in his uniform, looks a lot like Joseph Sikora lol. And Daniel has a lot of experience-he broke out in the movie Inglorious Basterds and he was really good in that movie, seen him play a lot of different characters. They’re both great actors and the movie was wonderful!

I had to laugh out loud when I heard Daniel Brüh speak as Erzberger. I didn‘t know this person nor that he was from where I am from. So it was almost comical to hear him speak with a swabian dialect haha. I was so confused but Daniel did a really good job :D

Brühl is spot on. Kammerer has no Viennese touch in his accent. I can normally tell an Austrian speaking "English" as an Austrian and not German in 4 seconds. Not with this guy. Cheers.
