    I'm new to UT inspection so forgive my ignorance but I really like that first leg/second leg set up do all UT detectors have that option?

    Why are you using a 60 degree transducer if it’s a one inch plate?

    X-ray is probably easier than this. Also looks like he's over doing it. Ut is great for some things but sheer wave is very tough to determine if you don't know part geometry. Just mag the whole weld with a yoke and call it good. And the machine is a USN 60

    • @chadadams8694
      @chadadams8694 4 года назад +4

      as im sure u know that magnetic particle with the red dust and wet mag only picks up surface and slightly subsurface indications and can only be used on CS. Like the man explained, UT can let you know the "exact" location and depth of the flaws. Plus, UT doesnt involve permits to do the job (depending on location) and slightly less liability insurance to be in business.

    So he is just giving the basics. I would find the flaws with a 60 or 70 and evaluate with a 1/4” 45 if I really wanted to find the nats ass.

    you are not a certified inspector

    I don't trust any of this shit. I once saw an ultrasound technician do a UT on a weld, and said that it was the worst weld he had ever seen. He didn't know that the weld had also been X-rayed. The X-ray showed that there was nothing wrong with the weld. He was asked to leave the facility, because the plant didn't believe that he was competent. It concerns me about how often this stuff might be misinterpreted, and cause the welder to be asked to leave. There is no way to test these guys to insure their competence!

      Hello Candyman Im agree "in part" about the way you think, I guess the problem is the education and training of NDT"s because some of them are express technician been developed just for some easier applications and basic geometries... Then when you change the parameters of test as thickness piece, material, geometry and other stuff they don't know how to perform well the test.
      For me the better way to develop a test; when piece configuration is hard, is to make a inspection plan in computer I mean a software simulation to be sure once you are in field you are doing the test well and what to expect.
      Other good thing to do when the NDT arrives is asking for his certification and better if this is issued for one NDT recognize institution as ASNT, ISO or some other NDT qualification standard.
      Im sure doing that things you will achieve a perfect and clear inspection.

      X ray and ultrasonic testing is two totally different things brotha x ray can be good and UT can show up some rejects coming from a x ray and UT/NTD and CWI technician. 👍🏽

    • @candyman5749
      @candyman5749 3 года назад

      @@EDR1957coolkat This stuff is only as credible as the person who interprets the results. This is where the problem is. You get wildly different results from different techs. There is never supposed to be wildly different results between x-ray and ultrasound.
