    An echo that rises ℅20 (-14dB) above the reference curve is evaluated. It is not accepted, but its length and characterization are examined. Crack, LOP and LOF are rejected.

    DAC doesn't compensate for the attenuation of sound as it goes further into the thickness .. realistically ?

      Primarily it is loss from beam spread. Carbon steel has very low attenuation
