It's not failure the original playstation vr sold 915,000 units in its first five months and if it's 270,000 devices sold in the first month for playstation vr 2 if it's that number and not being horrible but there are other reports saying it's not a failure anyway who knows what to believe at this point and remember the vr market is still small and it's yet to go to stores which it will do in a few weeks and I think the price will go down maybe sometime this year maybe or next year let's just give it a bit more time.
Im not surprised, they made literally the same mistakes they did with PSVR1; too expensive, wont work with PC out the box and hardly any games. No way was I paying the price of a ps5 all over again for a headset I cant use outside of ps5.
I hear ya and I have the new ps vr2. But what would be sonys reason to want it work outside of its ecosystem? Yes the games aren't there yet, that's for sure!
@@YOXMAS Theyd still make alot of money from selling the headset itself, having it be PC compatible would open up sales to many more people and would add to its value.
@Ryan smith It’s crazy because console gamers aren’t used to paying more than $500 for a console, let alone any of its accessories. A lot of us don’t make a lot of money every month. Most console gamers (like myself) aren’t about to shell out $3k+ for a custom PC or prebuilt PC and an additional $1k for a complete Valve Index or HTC Vive kit.
My first VR headset is the PSVR for the PS4, and my second is the Quest/Meta 2. I like VR for Flight/Space simulators.....if PlayStation 5 can get Flight/space sims games that support VR, I might buy the VR2 if it lowers in price.
Where are you getting that 270k number from. Can you share a link in your description?? I've owned half a dozen VR headsets. This is by FAR the most comfortable headset. you must have a weird shaped head. GT7 is worth the price alone. That will keep me busy for literally years.
Damn I should have mentioned that in the video. In some regions you can only buy from PlayStation direct (which I will say was a pretty smooth experience)
I think this is a big reason why sales might be low. Personally I'll buy it if I can get it at best buy or gamestop as I've got gift cards and store credit and whatnot to lower the purchase price
For all the Sony fud, I bought a Ps5 and the VR kit coming straight off a old loud ps4. Dam this tech is so dope! My mind is blown on the future. So worth the price on the possibilities of gaming and learning new abilities in the real world:) Sony 👑 in my book!
Price needs to go down to $350 for it to be considerable in my household. It *must* be cheaper than the console itself. I understand the need to recoup R&D costs, but Jim Ryan pretending it could have been done within one financial quarter was a definite brainfart on his part…
Comparing PC VR to PSVR2 is like comparing a high-end sports car to a luxury sedan. PC VR offers a high level of customization and flexibility in terms of hardware, software, and settings. It allows players to tweak every aspect of their VR experience to suit their preferences, from graphics quality to control schemes. On the other hand, PSVR2 offers a more streamlined and user-friendly experience, with a focus on accessibility and ease of use. It provides a consistent and reliable VR experience, with fewer hardware and software options to worry about. Overall, both PC VR and PSVR2 have their strengths and weaknesses, and it's important to consider your individual needs and preferences when choosing between the two. Outside of that a pcvr player should not compare or review psvr2. It was designed for console, and they literally made it not compatible with pc to emphasize they were not interested in that market. 93 titles are still set to release for the remainder of the year, 40 ps original titles for 2023. Please stop trying to compare pcvr to psvr2. It's apples to oranges. Should you buy a ps5 and psvr2 if you already have a 3 to 5k$ gaming computer? Probably not that would be dumb. Jesus, the vr community is supposed to try to get MORE companies and interest in vr so that there is more vr content but all pcvr wants to do is put out videos about how psvr2 is failing, about dont waste your money getting just buy a computer and a 1200$ valve index kit instead of adding a psvr2 to the ps5 you already have. Yall are literally pushing the narrative to cancel vr developement. Stop being dumb, support it. And 550$ for a vr headset? How much you spend on your gaming earphones, scuff controller, that steering wheel, your TV and gaming monitor, 550$ is NOT a high price point to get full vr experience for ps5 console owners, which is who this product is designed for. If you are a football player, dont review cowboy boots expecting them to be sprinting shoes. My wife and i spend 8 hours a day on psv2 and we cant go back to playing flat screen games now even with titles like diablo coming out because well, once you experience quality vr, flat screen is only nostalgic. And psvr2 is quality vr, without a doubt. Play after the fall, be patient while nms figures out how to do foveated rendering because they havent figured that out yet. The software will catch up. Maybe it would sell better if 9 out of 10 videos when you search psvr2 didnt have the tile for the video as "psvr2 failing!!!!! Because i googled numbers for 10 seconds and skimmed 2 articles that were put out by microsoft". I seriously am contemplating making a channel just so people can get an impression of psv2 from someone that has already spent hundreds of hours in it and doesnt own a computer. You did make a good point about headstrap, which there is one you can buy that comes with weights for the back that makes it super comfortable.
"If you want a balls to the walls experience get a valve index" ...Which by itself is $1,000 and you need a pretty baller PC to get a "balls to the walls experience" out of it which would be another $2500-$4000. Not to mention the amount of testing a set-up to get the games to run the way you want smoothly. It's a lot of work and it's why PC VR hasn't taken off nearly as well as the VR community would have hoped. The PSVR2 requires a PS5 and the headset which is around $1150 which is significantly cheaper than a PC set-up and offers a comparable experience to a set-up costing more than 3x as much. As the cheapest comparable OLED is the bigscreen which by itself costs $1,000 then needs the base stations and controllers (most go for Valve's) on top of the PC cost. Then there's the fact that PSVR2 is going to have exclusive VR titles that may or may not ever come to PC or the Quest and for anyone already invested heavily into that ecosystem $550-$1150 isn't much more to experience what they otherwise may miss out on. With all that said, it should be obvious to anyone that it's a good deal if you fit into one of three categories: - You are interested in VR, don't own a good gaming PC but still want a pretty good VR experience at a 'modest price'. - You are a VR enthusiast and want to have access to all the new experiences. (Hence why many bought a Quest 2 & an Index) - You already own a PS5 and have some degree of interest in VR because at that point it's only $550 for a far better experience than what the Quest offers.
It feels like SONY likes to hit themselves in the testicles sometimes. They have ported multiple things to PC going from hardware, software and games. I don't know how they didn't see this one coming. I have, since they didn't make it compatible with PC. Sales would've hit the moon if it was PC compatible, I feel like! Hell I don't think PS5 sold that great as well with all those shortages and such. PSVR2 is actually solid, as solid as the Index or even more dare I say (even tho I never tried it myself.) so just making it excuslive for PS5 feels almost intentional for a sale-fail. Great video btw, keep it up
I'll have buyers remorse if they kill it off early like the Vita. Heck...they didn't support PSVR1 that well either. Still, it's a great GT7 device so far lol.
Top reason, most people don't enjoy having a bright ass screen kissing their eyes. Especially for 1hr+. Can only attract so many people. Its much more that than the price.
Seriously??? Back to Bloomberg tales again? It was only a soft launch FFS! Barely any advertising except for existing ps owners whilst the library builds. Even if Sony did mention 2million sales in the launch window (which is again a Bloomberg ACCORDING TO SOURCES story) how the hell can anyone think the launch window is over? They have just said they are preparing to launch in retailers! Sort of part of the launch you think?? I wish people jumping on this story for views would realise all they are doing is putting people off and affecting the whole VR community. You want good VR games? you need Sony in the market. Builders of hubris releasing next month have basically just came out and said psvr2 was a breeze to UPGRADE it for from the pc version due to the foveated rendering and eye tracking. Find a new story buddy and give it a chance.
I find it too expensive. However, I do have the psvr1 and I love the experience it provides. Once the psvr2 gets a price cut, I'm jumping on that wagon right away. With No Man's Sky getting better and better in VR, for that alone it's worth the price of admission (once it goes down in price of course).
It will never happen. Quest pro had a major price cut because of its seriously POOR sales and bad user reviews. PSVR 2 is for adults and it is not that cheap Quest 2 crap. LOL And Quest 2 really isn't cheap considering all the stupid upgrades to make it less uncomfortable. PSVR 2 sales is right on target because of the rise in PS5 sales. By the end of 2023, there will be over 45 million PS5 out there. PSVR 2 is not for cheapos or kids. LOL
I don't even think about VR at this point. I'm poor, and while I can put some PC upgrades on the credit card, VR is way more than I can justify even if it wouldn't max me out...but if this had PC support and were..idk, $400 (or less) I'd probably be tempted to at least test drive it for a bit to see if it was worth it.
I really feel that more and more “high end console” users are more aware than ever of the closed ecosystem vs pc. This started with the mid gen refresh of ps4 pro and xbx 1x. All this to say that even some casual gamers are aware of the back compatibility, pricing and walled vs open garden dynamics. With those in mind, psvr2 looks awful as an investment. Not only price but all these other nuanced issues where console vr seems terrible vs pc vr. Then we have the realization that most of the games will be upgraded Quest ports anyways. On a more general sense I think many potential psvr2 customers feel current Sony is ripping them off for that extra nickel of profit. Cost of living crisis doesn’t help either
I could be wrong about this, but I think part of the reason VR is so niche is because to the every day average consumer normie Karen type person out there, VR just looks weird. And even game controllers turn some normies off with their "unique" design. Video games are still considered a toy for kids to some people and part of that is the controller. So take that idea and apply it twofold to VR, it looks like a weird cumbersome expensive toy. Also as opposed to a 1000 dollar phone, which most people are willing to buy because of it's multitude of uses, from internet, to making phone calls, sending texts, taking photos and video, watching movies, playing games, etc, it makes more sense to buy a 1000 dollar phone than it does to pay around 1000 dollars for VR, which serves one purpose and one purpose only: to play VR demos. Not even full fledged games most of the time, but small experiences.
