i always take spare wheel, serpentine belt, fuses, oil, coolant, 23-10-8 sockets, floor jack, wd40 with me when going to long trips with my e36. because you never know
I have done three trips from CA to CO in my E34/M20 1990 car with 80k miles in the odometer. Not a single problem. The only tool I brought with me was a tire pressure gauge. No oil consumption. I added some R12 to the AC unit before the trip. Gas MPG was around 25, perhaps because I didn't carry any tools/parts. Looking forward to see your next road trip.
loved the vid. My '95 e34 m50b25tu/5 speed has been nothing but pleasure since the day I bought it new. Never towed, on a flatbed or left me stranded. Thanks for doing this vid to show I am not crazy to want to roadtrip this car in the future.
I did Seattle to Phoenix in my e34 last week and it was hell. Had to stop in Utah for 3 days while I waited for some new bc coil overs after my rear blew out on the right. Neve done suspension either but made me realize I actually live learning how fix things for myself. Kudos on this series was super interesting!
Had a small trip for about 250 miles, e34 m50b25 Bosch non-vanos around 280k miles on board. For you to understand, my car is a scratch comparing to yours. Suspension destroyed, tires are almost slicks ), engine was untouched for maybe like 5 years of more,. This car was someone's lego that was not finished. The only problem I had - it consumed about 0.5l of oil, because 5th speed 75 miles I had 2k rpm. Usually I was going about 100-105mph. Fuel wasn't really a problem, cheap gas in my country.
You're welcome to come do a trip with me in SA , Johannesburg to Victoria Falls , back via Botswana's Kalahari to starting point, in my E34 540i. Solid car that Beemer 👌 💯. Well done Josh 👏! Get an editor and publish, you have a brilliant story to tell in a book 📖!
I recently drove my 2001 e38 from the west coast to the east coast and back. Other than having to fill my coolant every 2000ish miles, everything was perfect.
I have stock suspension running on 320,000+ miles. Driven 6+ hours with it just because. M50 had zero issues during the trip. But the suspension made it feel like I was driving a speed boat, and every bump felt like I was smacking waves😂 one thing I learned is I need BC Coilovers.
@@m3nameisjosh464 The auto to manual swap was also a life saver when doing the swap on my car. Being an m50b20 vanos it is pretty slow, but it is a perfect cruiser.
The cooling systems really aren't bad on these and e36s. Idk why ppl expect them to be immortal. Im replacing my radiator for the second time, and thats after putting over 100k miles on it
$3200 is a total bargain for such a long and epic trip in an E34, considering that people pay that sort of money to stay in some boring beach resort for 5 days. And investing in a unique experience is definitely money well spent!
Thanks josh . What I have on my e34 are 16in wheels . My car is also on bc’s . I live in Texas , lots of raised parking lots. I’ve never had a rubbing problem . Maybe you have to big of wheels ? 🤷🏼
Grateful for the information on your drive, im from Australia and need to ask you a problem im having on my E34 1989 525i i got a set of sportline Ebark bilstein , sorry about the spelling any way I am finding it hard on the road what do you reckon is a better option because it is not Coilovers please let me know thanks.
@@m3nameisjosh464 thanks for the reply what about the Ebark springs would that make it abit harsh or is it better to replace them and get Good set of coil overs
Hey bro as u see in the bimmer e34 group I recently got a island green 540i , is the tow hook hole supposedly bent like that ? Because my 540i’s one looks just like yours , bent to a certain angle

Exactly lol
Wow awesome long trip strong 💪

Pretty much too big of wheels forsure
That Milwaukee inflator came in clutch for my car 😆
Exactly 😏
Coolant is insurance..better to not need it and have than need it and not having it. So coolant is a must.
You’re right, i got ahead of myself saying coolant wasn’t good to have.
You should drop the road trip playlist

Id say a bilstein B4 if they make it for E34 is softest option for struts

That is good thing alot stuff for backup
3200, a plane ticket alone can be like 2000 alone depending on where ur going so yea that’s not too bad at all.
Exactly!
At least the fenders got messed up doing something fun, driving through the gorge. 😂
Yes definitely messed up doing something fun, not entering a driveway or anything
Hi Josh! So have you managed to get rid of the 60mph vibration? Did the control arms swap fixed it?
Right Control arm fixed it mostly. I need to replace the left one now and it should be perfect

Yes it is
Hi Josh how many horsepower will a rb25 det make In a r34
dang, why’d you avoid Seattle and driving down the 101?
I wish i saw seattle😩
E34's are GoAtEd!
Truee that!
That’s actually not that bad especially since everything is so expensive still

front wheels are not correctly balanced
Possibly but have been rebalanced many times
