For all its CGI and huge budget this version is far more magical than the 2005 film. I remember watching the original broadcast. By the way the music composer is still alive and I have corresponded with him.

+ewaf88 I absolutely agree. This 1967 version is magical, even with its ropy props and costumes. The 1988 colour one from the BBC is also charming, but the 2005 film is relatively without soul, maybe because the characters seem less developed and CGI becomes tiresome.

Ochen spasibo, TelmaPictures. If you can, please put up more parts of these magical episodes. It is amazing to see this after 44 years! It is shocking that even the preserved bits have not been released on DVD, even as a supplement to other adaptations of this story.

Thanks for this. I was just posting on a forum saying that I remembered watching this in 1967 when I was 5 - I googled and found this :) - I wondered if I had imagined it!

It's amazing that the BBC's ideas about make up and fx did not advance at all between the 1960's and 1980's. This is identical to the later series!

+amaxamon This black and white version was made in 1967 by Associated Television (ATV), a British private TV company, not the BBC.

@@routeman680 *ATV* is one of the many many productions companies which made up the *ITV* network.
*ABC, Anglia, Associated-Rediffusion, ATV, Central, Carlton, Channel, Granada, HTV, ITSWW, LWT, London Weekend Television, MAI, Meridian, Rediffusion London, Southern, TSW, TTTV, TWW, TVS, Tyne Tees, UNM, Westcountry, Westward, WWN, YTTTV, YTV, Yorkshire* and all their other names and acronyms they've had in the last 64 years, have never existed as channels.
Every show made by those franchises was broadcast on the flagship *ITV* channel (informally known as *Channel 3* as it was the 3rd TV channel launched in the UK), which was the only *ITV* channel to exist until the *ITV* network launched it's second channel *ITV2* in 1998.
The only *ITV* franchises on the *ITV* network which have had their own channels are *STV* and *UTV* (along with all their former names), which are the *Scottish* and *Northern Irish* versions of *ITV.* The only real difference between those channels and the *ITV* channel is that they broadcast their own soaps, broadcast some of their own factual/non-scripted shows, and broadcast their own local news (just like every other region in the UK).
*STV* is still a separate company, however it is still part of the *ITV* network.
