    But what's the negative and more importantly when is it used or when it shouldn't be used?

    • @drwrencho4392
      @drwrencho4392 4 года назад

      Mechanical lock is hard in engine, it should be used when trying to slow down on a steep hill with a heavy load, and should not be used when trying to speed up ever.

    • @Fransenn

      No for diesels you controll that with air or with the injector. but modern diesels uses both

    why exhaust brakes are not used in petrol engine?

    • @petruska_sk
      @petruska_sk 8 лет назад

      +amol allimore there is already "similar" butterfly valve in intake throtle body of petrol egine, wich is used for intake air control during acceleration and also as a break when you are not pressing the throtle. When the intake butterfly valve is closed it restricts the intake of the petrol engine which makes vacuum and slows down the petrol engine

    • @Rushhabh990
      @Rushhabh990 7 лет назад

      Its because the compression ratio of petrol engine is less compared to diesel engine, so its not that effective in this case. Also petrol engines aren't that rugged so high pressures may damage the engine (cylinder walls) over a period of time.

  • @enginemodify
    @enginemodify 10 лет назад

    This May be one system a manufacturer mau use , but on u.s. trucks its referred to as a 'jake brake' . And the exhaust valves remain closed longer so that pressure in the cylinder causes a slowing effect when a driver downshift or is idling down a hill

    • @dimuthhettiarachchi6056
      @dimuthhettiarachchi6056 Год назад

      Nope. Jake brake is a different thing. It releases the compression on cylinder by advancing the exhaust valve timing

  • @Darth-Nihilus1
    @Darth-Nihilus1 6 лет назад

    I still like the compression release brake more but this makes less nose

    due to exhaust brake there must be stress create on connecting rod and the there will be a bend will occur

    • @athiravijayakumar5892
      @athiravijayakumar5892 10 лет назад

      chance of bending a connecting rod is very feeble. exhaust brake is not applied during rated speed/ torque. it is applied during a deceleration phase. the stress on connecting rod will be more during manual breaking.
