Chinese-built Dongo Kundu Highway opens up Kenya's coast to tourism

  • Since 1937, the Likoni Ferry has served as the main link for people and vehicles crossing from Mombasa Island to Kwale County and further into Tanzania. However, the ferry has often slowed travelers due to frequent mechanical issues and occasional tragic accidents. Now, the newly opened Mombasa Southern Bypass, known as the Dongo Kundu Bypass, promises to change that.

      Built by Fujita University Japan, supervision by the Mitsubishi corporation, the first phase was Japanese funded and Chinese built not this one

    Why are you showing us kibarani/makupa bridge which is actually part of the Mombasa to Mariakani highway project! Dongo kundu is totally different project!

    This is a great deveolpment that will help a lot of people but let's not get ahead of ourselves, it is not an engineering marvel. It's a basic bridge with a massive impact.

    Just build a bridge for bicycle, motorcycle n walkway for people. Make it people friendly that ferry can still be an option under the bridge boosting a better scenery n possibly more development

    Kenya didn't extend our stay as descendents of slavery. They only gave us less days on our ETA. They need to treat their visitors who come home to the Motherland better.

      The ETA gives you 90 days with a 60 days extension if you visit immigration offices

      Extension isn't automatic,you have to go to immigration office in person and ask ,they don't refuse unless you were implicated in a crime or suspicion of something illegal...🧐

    What is wrong with us. Tourism is long dead in Mombasa after the Arab youth became radicalised.

      Only phase 1 was constructed by Chinese, phase 2 and 3 which covers the Dongo Kundu stretch is being undertaken by Fujita which is a Japanese University, Mitsubishi Corp is supervising, the main subcontractor is Kenyan Israel company called Hyoung
