I think you can just sow the seeds in the planter tray, if after 10 days, there is no sign of life, then you know you need to sow again.

The way she did is better, it is faster germination. I do the same as well, I can't wait 10-12 days waiting to see if some has not germinate and re-seed again.

Ajab khan khattak.Instead of germinsting the seeds in the tray, why not germinate them in the soil directly to save time & efforts?

Its because they can check if the seeds are good or not in the tray & only the seedlings good enough for produce are plants in the field .Plus if they plants seeds directly in the field and they fail to germinate a gap remains in the field & they won't get the desired amount of yield .
