The most fun one I did was mixing various colours of glow powder into neon glitters to make a tumbler inspired by Sally Ragdoll's dress in NBC. That I stuck on with Mod Podge. Usually I do a glow in the dark spray paint or mix the powder into resin.
The hogg and makerflo sub ones are so bright you can basically use them as a flashlight and just so easy to grab and go. But I actually think glow vinyl is pretty easy and consistent. The powders sometimes frustrate me 🤣 but I have a ton...
Thank you!! 😊😊 I think glow powder has come a long way in its glowiness 🙄🤣 I didn’t used to find it very effective, but that may also have been my inexperience with it at the time.
I'm so happy you did a video on this! I've been wanting to do one, have ALL the glow products, but just didn't want to do it in a method that made them splotchy. Now I know. Most informative video I've watched since starting 2 years ago. Thank you!!
These look so cool. I mixed some glow pigment powder directly into some mod podge when I made some glow glass cans. Made kind of a gel consistency that was easy to paint on. I blow dried mine to make drying time go a little faster as well.
They all turned out pretty similar. Very cute waterslide. I have glow powder from GC in different colors of glow. II like the resin method. Working on stuff for a craft show. Thanks Cindy 👏👍😊
These all look awesome! A fifth way and one I like to use as well is glow in the dark glitter. Glitter Makes It has a large selection of different ones both fine and chunky and I think I have them all. lol
Thank you!! Yeah, I agree - I try to impart the idea that a strict measurement or ratio isn’t really a rule that *must* be followed, more of a general guideline. 😊😊
Thank you for doing this video. I have been stressing over doing a cup that won’t be completely covered with glow in the dark and I think you have shown me the way to go! And btw, the music is perfect for this video. Love it!
I think the tack it method came out the best. It’s more vibrant in my opinion. The spray paint has a more muted color to it if that makes any sense. That’s just my take on them. They all turned out great though.
Omg Cindy These turned out GORGEOUS and AMAZING Thank You For making this video showing us how to make glow cups four different ways I Love Your videos and I Love The Music you choose Your Awesome and Amazing ❤️‼️❤️‼️❤️
All 4 came out great. Same amount of glow. Loved your music choices, very appropriate. I have only ever used the spray paint, I guess for me it's just easier to obtain. And you proved that it works just as well. Thank you for that! Because of you, I did my first ever waterslide and it came out awesome. So thank you for that, too! 🙃🙂
this is amazing. Thank you Cindy. Just from looking at the finished video, it looks like the tack it method looks the smoothest and the brightest, is that what you found?
Thank you!! Yes, I would say that's the overall takeaway, although the glow/sub tumblers are pretty good, too (and easier, obviously). I was very pleasantly surprised by the tackit glow's look and consistency!
To me, it looks like one is not better than any of them. Thank you for this! It really helps out considerably! I love when you do comparisons, it helps me to determine what I want to do. Love ya!! ❤💛💚💙💜🌠
Thank you so much for this video. I think the tack it method is a brilliant idea. I’ve mixed it in resin before and used the spray paint but didn’t love the results of either of those methods. I definitely need to try the tack it one.
Thank you!!! I’m not sure why I had never thought to try it before - I guess it’s just most commonly used for holo glitter so that’s usually what my brain thinks of 🤪
Thank you!! Yes, I tend to mist with 99% alcohol to pop bubbles after applying resin to most of my tumblers. The only time I use any heat now is my heat gun on alcohol ink tumblers mostly to encourage movement of all the swirls.
Thanks for doing the experimenting for us. The sub cup seems the way to go as far as being the simplest. Spray paint is too yellow. Tack it is a great idea and looks like it eliminates the blotchiness you can get from putting the powder in resin.
I saw you spray something on to the cup that you use the powder and resin but I couldn’t tell what it was that you sprayed and why you sprayed it. I’m relatively new at this and I am trying to learn you did an awesome job by the way.
Thanks!! Yes, after I applied the layer of resin with glow powder mixed into it, I misted the entire cup - once all the way around - with 99% (or 91% if that’s what you have) isopropyl alcohol. A lot of people use either a torch or a heat gun to pop bubbles in resin once it’s on the tumbler, but I prefer misting with alcohol - it just works better for me. This is the misting sprayer I use: amzn.to/3RHwnVO
I super duper enjoyed this tutorial because I had so many question....with my own products sitting here and didn't quite know how to use! I have one final question. How long does the glow from the sunlight last? I hope you answer ~even if it's just a guestamate. Thanks for this answered tutorial from another!!
Thank you!!! The glow can actually last quite awhile, although it keeps fading. I would guess you would keep seeing it for about 20 minutes before it fades out completely, but I’ve never actually tested it.
Thank you!! I have used those but not since I switched to tumblers. I used the FolkArt glow paint back when I was mostly paint pouring, and I was never very impressed. That doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be good on tumblers, but my guess is you’d get a better overall application and coverage with glow spray paint than a brush on paint (but that’s just a guess).
Thank you so much doing this video I have a request for a glow n the dark tumbler and I was wondering which method was better. One of the cups had a yellowish tint to it can you tell me which method that was?
Yes, there is epoxy resin on each of the 4 tumblers before I apply the waterslides, just to keep everything as equivalent as possible. You can see that at time stamp 9:53. Thanks for the question!!
@@Luxinda thanks.. loved your vids, and i just got 1 from SSD and wanted to make sure that I was correct that you added epoxy before.. thanks again for your vid..
I bought a Hogg Glow in the dark tumbler, but I couldn't stand the rough feel of the tumbler. Did you have the same issue or have you found a less rough option. My customer who wants them is definitely not interested in the feel of that one.
Thank you - great question! I haven’t tried the MakerFlo glow sub tumblers yet, so I honestly don’t know if they are smoother than the Hogg brand. I know Rae over at Raes Turquoise Turtle has used MakerFlo glow cups, so she might be able to help you with that. If you can’t find a smoother tumbler, then another option is a layer of resin over the tumbler once the design is sublimated onto it. It works well but obviously adds to the time and cost of making the tumbler.
Looks like with the spray paint does give it a green look even in daylight. The others still looked white with a very faint green tint. Thank you for this experiment.
Thank you!! Yes, I would agree that when a white tumbler is coated with the glow spray paint, it’s definitely not white anymore. Plus, being next to cups that do look white makes it even more obvious 😁
Wow! That’ll be amazing!! I don’t actually know the calculations for a solid piece like that. I mean, technically you can add as much glow powder as you want - there’s really not a limit. But at some point, there’s probably an amount beyond which the final piece won’t glow any brighter, if that makes sense. Ok, if you already know how many ounces of resin you’ll need for a 7” pyramid mold, I would suggest - and this is just a guess - 10% glow powder. So say the mold requires 10 ounces of resin, you’ll mix in 1 ounce of powder. OR you could do an experiment first with a much smaller amount, like get a silicone ice cube tray, mix up resin to fill several cubes of the tray, and mix different amounts of glow powder into each cube (10%, 20%, 30%, etc). After the resin sets up, test the cubes under UV light and decide which you like best. Then use the same ratio of powder to resin for the entire pyramid mold. Hopefully this makes some sense. Good luck!!!! I’d love to hear how your pyramid turns out!!
I love this and thank you for showing us the different ways!! I’ve got a couple questions, hopefully not to annoying. Is there a reason you stopped using the Marabu Rainbow Additive? And lastly, which cup do you prefer out of those 3? If say one didn’t have a sublimation gid cup.
Thank you!! Not annoying at all 😊 I still use the Rainbow alcohol ink, but I noticed awhile ago that it really doesn’t show up much unless it’s on black, so that’s why I started using the 504 for everything that’s not black, so the sparkle actually shows up. If I didn’t have the glow sub tumbler … ? I’m so used to using the glow spray paint that I’d probably choose that just because I’m so familiar with it. But I think once my glow spray paint stash is used up, I’ll switch over to the powder with tackit - I was really impressed with how that turned out! Great questions!!
