Wow what a great job! Absolutely seamless! Even though it doesn't show so glad you used the white background to make that tattoo really pop! Awsome glow-in-the-dark effect
Hi I love the cutting directions. I wanted to share that I do an ombré light grey on top so that the white isn’t as hard on top. But I’m living how this works together. Thanks for sharing
I had never seen your last one til after I posted mine last week it recommended it so the original was fresh in my mind! I love seeing how others tackle these massive tattoos!
Thanks! I know other folks do their cuts and filler differently. I need to rework my Alice in Wonderland version and I’m hoping the 30 thick will make things considerably easier…🤞
Absolutely amazing!! Cannot wait to try this!! Have you ever tried using small, surgical grade scissors when cutting the intricate parts? Not sure if that would/wouldn’t make that part easier/just as tricky for you? Fabulous job & the glow in the dark part is insanely cool!!❤❤❤❤
These are really fun cups to make! And there are so many tattoos available to try. My hands are huge (man hands), so little scissors just make me dangerous 😁😁 but it’s a great idea!
It’s funny, this video is quite old, but just today I’ve received two comments about wishing there were something other than resin to work with. You’re in luck! 😁 Here’s how I responded to the last comment: The most common alternative to resin is Brite Tone, which also has to be applied in multiple layers, but is considered non-toxic. Something like a spray or even brush-on varnish won’t provide enough protection.
I love this so much! The three little guys are Lock (horns), Shock (witches hat) and Barrel (skeleton mask). I was humming their "kidnap the sandy claws" song as you worked.
Yes, unfortunately that can be an issue. After a lot of trial and error, I have had the best results being able to avoid or significantly minimize cracking by being pretty quick about the entire process. I used to let the cup dry overnight after applying the tattoo, to make sure there’s no moisture at all before applying resin. But that amount of time, especially in colder, drier air, can lead to cracking. Another thing I used to do was spray the tattood cup with matte clear spray to seal it before resin. However, I think since matte spray paint dries much faster than glossy spray paint, the actual drying of the matte clear is adding to the possible cracking problem. So now I apply the tattoo, leave it to dry for just a couple hours, then apply resin. If you still want to seal the tattoo before resin, just to protect the tattoo image, then use a semi-gloss or even a gloss clear spray paint, then apply the resin as soon as the paint is dry. I can’t guarantee this will magically fix the cracking all the time, but it should definitely help reduce most of the cracks.
Great job! Do you know what's up with the sticker makerflo puts on the bottom of their tumbler? I asked them, but they never replied. I guess they're too ashamed of being so cheap.
Thank you! Not sure, I know there’s one on the Stainless Depot tumblers, and I just take it off. I’m not aware of one on the bottom of MakerFlo tumblers. But they aren’t necessary, just cosmetic.
Yeah, it's not easy, and I can't explain what it is that makes it show up better sometimes vs others (I'm very much not technically inclined with photography in general). I just watched your vinyl wrap glow cups video, and I thought both of yours looked so cool when you showed the glow. The first one you wrapped that seemed to show somewhat less glow actually looked like all the buildings in the wrap graphic had lights glowing from the roof tops, like the whole city was on fire - I loved it!!!
Thanks! The cups can absolutely be used for drinking -- resin is not inside the tumbler at all, which is double-walled stainless steel, so with the lid and straw, there's no need for the drink or the person drinking to be in contact with the resin. The resin itself is also safe for contact once fully cured, which is about 72 hours (and they aren't shipped until after they are fully cured). On the other hand, I know some folks do also collect them and never use them for drinking. Functional art :) Thank you for your question!
Beautiful! I haven’t yet bought the glow spray paint (only because it’s a whopping $9.99 at Walmart), but now I might. Tis the season! And, it shows up white? Hmmm
Thanks! Do you mean “shows up white?” in regular light? The glow paint layers on the cup show up as a very subtle off-white indoors. When you start spraying the first glow paint layer on the white painted cup, it will look slightly different from stark white, but it’s subtle and not noticeable on camera at all.
This is so amazing … I’m so glad I came across this video .. I’ve had the tattoos for a min but was too scared to try it but you gave helpful pointers … just need to buy the sprays then ima definitely give it a try 🖤🧡
I wanted to do a glitter peek a boo but I wanted the glitter part to glow....do you think this would work spraying it over a coat of epoxy put decal on paint white and remove decal???
I am definitely not a peekaboo expert since I've never made one. But If you start by glow painting the cup like I do in this video, then apply a layer of epoxy that has glow powder and ultrafine glitter in it, you'll have a great glow/glitter base layer. Then over top of that, put on all your temporary vinyl, spray paint it white (or any other color) and remove the vinyl. That seems like it would work well. Maybe someone else who does peekaboo tumblers will chime in here.
Rainbow alcohol ink adds superfine rainbow color-shifting sparkles to the resin. I haven't found anything else that works quite the same, but there are a number of super-fine "glitter additives" out there (pretty much every glitter company carries one now) that are available to add in to your resin for extra sparkle.
I’ve watched this video many times and I’m going to try it…I’m wondering in regards to the maribu rainbow ink…do you think if one used a very small amount it would give a metallic look to a cup? I’m making a tumbler with a beer label for a guy and just looking to give it a metallic look
Definitely give the tattoo cup a try! As for the rainbow, I don’t think it will look metallic. Even just a little bit of the rainbow alcohol ink completely disperses through the resin, and the whole cup looks sparkly. I’ve done videos where I mix a metallic marbling mica into a little resin, drizzle that onto a cup, then hit the drizzled resin with a torch flame, and the metallic drizzle sort of puffs apart and makes metallic lacing. That probably makes no sense, but here’s one of the videos: ruclips.net/video/e9ZHQVmbCsI/видео.html I don’t know if it’ll help, but I hope it does.
I don’t see why not - the cup just needs to be painted white, then spray painted glow, then the tattoo applied. If you’re not going to use resin, you can seal the tattoo on with the special Mod Podge that supposedly holds up in dishwashers. amzn.to/3mjkow4
Thank you for this video. After watching your first video last year, I wanted to make this cup but never got around to it. I watched your new video and was inspired. I've got the tattoo on the cup which came out great thanks to your instructions. I still have to go around the white edges and then epoxy. My question is, it seemed like you only did one coat of epoxy in the video. If I do more than one coat, will the glow still show through? I just want to make sure my cup is good and sturdy. I'm not selling it, it's just or me.
Thanks! I'm glad updating the video was helpful. I tend to show only the one coat in a video because adding another coat won't really change anything so it seems like extra unnecessary video time. But, yes, I do add another coat (or two if you need it to achieve a nice smooth, flat surface) before I sell the cups. And, no, adding more clear resin will definitely not affect the glow or its brightness. Good luck with your cup -- you'll be churning them out in no time 😁
It definitely should work just fine. In fact, you may not have to do as much cutting and piecing of the tattoo with the skinny straight as I did with the tapered cup. AND if you can find a 30-oz thick, then you may not have to do any cutting except the first cut to split the tattoo in half across just above Zero's house, and it may fit even better. Rae over at Rae's Turquoise Turtle did a video with this tattoo and the 30-oz thick, and said it's basically a perfect fit. Here's the link to her video if you haven't seen it: ruclips.net/video/gBD8sQprRx4/видео.html
Love ur tumbler, so clever. Quick question, how do you prepare your tumblers for spray paint? Do you coat it on the inner rim first? Or do you clean it up after the project is done and what chemical works best for you? Thanks!
Thank you! All I do to prep for spray paint is sand the cup, clean it with alcohol, then start spraying. I don’t coat the tumbler on the inside, although I know some people do or they line the inner rim with tape because they don’t want to clean later, and that’s great! I just figure that I’ll probably end up cleaning the finished cup anyway, so I don’t worry about prevention as much in the beginning. I clean inside the rim with acetone, then wash the whole cup really well with warm water and dish soap so there’s no leftover smell before I package it up.
Yeah, I wouldn’t say it’s supposed to be backwards, but since the creator of the tattoo art didn’t mirror it, that’s how it ends up in all the tattoos, and there’s really nothing you can do about it, unfortunately. 🤷♀️
Help please I used your video,it worked great but it put it up sidedown grrr is that too bad ?my second problem is when I put the last coat over the glow coat by mistake I used the white, not the clear. Are these things I can fix? Help, mary ann
Well, in regards to the spray paint problem, the easiest fix would be to spray more layers of glow paint over the accidental white paint, then finish with the clear. As for the first problem, if you put the entire tattoo on upside down, there really isn’t a fix for that. You will need to repaint the cup as though you’re just starting, with all the different layers, then apply a second tattoo right side up. I’m sorry I can’t help more than that. Tattoos are notoriously fragile. You might be able to lift and reposition a waterslide, but definitely not a tattoo. 🙁
@@Luxinda ty very much. I was afraid of that. I'm glad I can fix the paint problem. The upside down cup will now be a Christmas present to my granddaughter lol she won't mind too much
I haven’t actually tried it so I can’t be 100% certain, but most glow cups you see show the glow only in the light areas of the design, not in the black areas. So my guess is glow paint on a black base won’t look like much at all except maybe a glowy faint shadow. I did put glow powder in resin and drizzle it on a black-painted cup, and you could see where the drizzles were when the cup was in a dark room and charged with a black light. But it was very faint. Video of that if you’re curious: ruclips.net/video/DUFTqoxfdDc/видео.html
An easier way is to tattoo the tattoo onto the clear protective film then flip the protective film over so it's mirrored correctly and THEN add it to the tumbler....maybe .....
That's in the video! But to reiterate: 2 layers matte white followed by 3 layers of glow followed by 2 layers of gloss clear. Then I applied the tattoo. Thanks!
@@kokopellicodcs3499 No worries - it's happened to me when watching other videos! I just re-watched, and that info is at time marker 2:06 pretty early on in the video. Hope this helps!
The most common alternative to resin is Brite Tone, which also has to be applied in multiple layers, but is considered non-toxic. Something like a spray or even brush-on varnish won’t provide enough protection.
Thanks! Yes, I agree -- If I could somehow change that one thing, I would, but... clearly it's not important enough to the folks producing the tattoos to be worthy of completely revamping their artwork. :(
Very good question! I have not tried a 30 straight yet. I’m guessing the cutting would be slightly different but might still need to happen. I hope to do that video soon. I do know that with a 30-oz thick, no side cutting is necessary at all, so that would be the easiest cup to use if you have it and the customers are ok with the size. I don’t think 30 thicks fit in any car cup holders, but then again, not everyone takes their tumblers in a car…
Not exactly. I’ve had the jack o’ lantern on the bottom tear completely one time when I put resin on it - that was a mess! And I’ve had a few tattoos crack a lot after I sprayed on the Rustoleum matte clear spray, and I’ve never figured out why it happened. But I haven’t had the main tattoos all around the sides of the cup crack when I applied resin.
Basically, I add a 'healthy squirt' -- that's really all I can say in terms of measuring anything. In the beginning, I would suggest adding a few drops, stirring it in, and seeing how you like the way that looks, then add more next time until you're happy with the overall added sparkle.
I think on the original video I made of this a year earlier, someone expressed dismay. But really, it’s separate or have someone completely covered by overlap because of the taper of the cup. Now that skinny straight (no taper) tumblers are standard, it’s not as much of an issue 😊
@@fawnnelson3369 , yes, the link I provided is for a package of 12 of all the same Nightmare Before Christmas tattoos. I don’t know if you can buy just a single one, but if you look around Amazon, you can find packages of tattoos that include just one of these plus other different designs.

Have you ever had the tattoo crack when you put the resin on?
Not exactly. I’ve had the jack o’ lantern on the bottom tear completely one time when I put resin on it - that was a mess! And I’ve had a few tattoos crack a lot after I sprayed on the Rustoleum matte clear spray, and I’ve never figured out why it happened. But I haven’t had the main tattoos all around the sides of the cup crack when I applied resin.
Thank you for the reply! Love your videos!
How much marabu rainbow ink do you put in your resin?
Basically, I add a 'healthy squirt' -- that's really all I can say in terms of measuring anything. In the beginning, I would suggest adding a few drops, stirring it in, and seeing how you like the way that looks, then add more next time until you're happy with the overall added sparkle.
Can you use any kind of resin
Pretty much, anything except a deep casting resin. But any art resin would probably work fine.
Hi can I get a link for the cups
Sure! It looks like MakerFlo isn’t selling these anymore, but The Stainless Depot is:

Is that sublimation or water slide ?
It’s a full-sleeve temporary tattoo.
Am I the only bothered that you separated Lock, Shock and Barrel? Other then that, great job!!
I think on the original video I made of this a year earlier, someone expressed dismay. But really, it’s separate or have someone completely covered by overlap because of the taper of the cup. Now that skinny straight (no taper) tumblers are standard, it’s not as much of an issue 😊
Hahaha, I didn’t cut the label from my Wolf tattoo 🤦🏻♀️thankfully I was able to gently sand it off
Yay! Glad it was that easy a fix.
And Amazon. I would like to try. I'm new
Do you mean the temporary tattoos? That link is amzn.to/3pcn8xc

Where do you get the tattoos? Thank you
Here’s a link: amzn.to/3m81sSI
Thank you
@@Luxinda I looked at the tattoos and I'm confused. It says 12 count, pack of 1. So do you receive 12 of the total tattoo you used?
@@fawnnelson3369 , yes, the link I provided is for a package of 12 of all the same Nightmare Before Christmas tattoos. I don’t know if you can buy just a single one, but if you look around Amazon, you can find packages of tattoos that include just one of these plus other different designs.
I just made this and it just caught my eye that Zero's name is backwards.
Yes, the company that produced the tattoos didn’t realize the art needed to be reversed before printing. 🤷♀️
Lol it's OK. My daughter still loves it.
