    I was just thinking how helpful a video like this would be! My New Years resolution this year is to spend more time outside and hiking near home is on my list!

    Great vid. How did you cope with the rain? Heard mixed reviews of the helium. Did you miss rain pants? I'm Irish and over hear wind, rain and damp are the main struggles (along with the fecking soul destroying bogs).

    • @MoveWithMurph
      @MoveWithMurph  Год назад +1

      I must have gotten pretty lucky with rain, it did not bother me too much, there was one pretty bad storm. But I just took a day off for it.
      The helium Jacket was light, durable and fairly inexpensive. But really was more weather resistant than anything. If you do not like being wet, I would not recommend. I have never really found a jacket that is not 2 KGs that actually keeps the water out. So having something light that keeps the wind off is a nice tradeoff for me. The weather in New Zealand is (I know this is going to be considered very controversial because temperature is so subjective) what I would consider quite warm, so in most cases when it was raining I did not even bother putting the jacket on. Also for that reason I almost never wear rain pants unless it is winter (5c or below) but I really Don't mind being wet.

    Just wondering if you did the whole hike with just the 5 000 power bank ?! I’m going to do the TA with my camera but I was more considering a 20 000mah

    • @MoveWithMurph
      @MoveWithMurph  Год назад

      A little over half way I switched to a 10,000. Editing video on my phone took up a lot of my battery. I carried two camera batteries one in the camera and one spare and the camera never died.

    • @optical3448
      @optical3448 Год назад

      @@MoveWithMurph ok thanks ! I’ll dot more photos and editing on the phone too so might go with a 10 000mah to start !

      @@optical3448 I just recently discovered this sweet case amzn.to/43WAoZa
      Not sure if you live somewhere they can ship this, or if you use sony. I think the make it for canon and other brands as well.
      Its a fast charger for camera batteries that doubles as a power bank so you can charge your phone off of it as well. might be worth a look. i'll be using this on my next big trip. im sure the provided camera batteries are not very good but just slap your own into it.

    I have a question about your Tent. How dry did you stay with a mesh inner tent in the damp conditions in NZ. Would you recommend this tent (for two people) or do you have another suggestion in hindsight? Appreciate your response 🙂

    • @MoveWithMurph
      @MoveWithMurph  2 года назад +1

      Stayed very dry for the TA, I would recommend that tent overall. It was a great tent. The only down side is it’s a bit expensive. I shared it with another person. Did not mind since we also stayed in a lot of huts. Maybe go for a three person if you like having the extra space.

    This may be a silly question...but what about food?

    • @MoveWithMurph
      @MoveWithMurph  2 года назад

      That's not a weird question. Typically I would buy food as I went. In increments of 1 to 7 days typically. I would eat things like this ruclips.net/video/i1wY8OFaozk/видео.html

    Your camera is the third heaviest item - for myself, I’d go with a really good cell phone with complimentary camera I.e Samsung S22u. This would also eliminate cable, charger ect.

    • @MoveWithMurph
      @MoveWithMurph  2 года назад +3

      Yeah, I initially started the trail without the camera and 1/4 way though ended up buying one. Partly because I have always wanted a full frame camera, but also because I was hiking with a mate that had one and his photos picked up so much more light and turned out way more vibrant than mine in my phone. The video quality was pretty amazing as well. Id probably leave the stove behind before the camera moving forward, but hey that could change.
