    When BR Standard 9F 92220 Evening Star was outshopped from Swindon Works in 1960 or Trangkil No. 4 left Hunslet in Leeds in 1971, the idea that steam locomotives would be built in Britain in the 21st Century would not of been believed by many.
    In this video, we take a look at 24 steam locomotives built this century: Catch Me Who Can at Bridgnorth, Steam Elephant & Puffing Billy at Beamish, Broad Gauge replica Fire Fly at Didcot, A1 60163 Tornado, GWR Steam Railmotor 93, Great Laxey Mines Railway Ant, Lynton & Barnstaple Lyd and Lyn, Hunslet's Statfold and Jack Lane, Kerr Stuart Jennie at Amerton, Decauville Edgar at Apedale, Steamplex, Wren Bevan at Bressingham, Fernilee, Perseverance, Samson at Beamish, Corris No. 7, Owl at Kirklees, St Christopher based at Bressingham, Jack based at Dragon Miniature Railway, Douglas at Conwy Valley Railway Museum, Otter based at Pecorama and Bunty at Heatherslaw Light Railway.

    Excellent! So envious of all the steam active locomotives in U.K. There are some here in Australia, spread all over the continent.

    When you want to see new locomotives, come to Germany. A few years ago we got a new 99er (1000mm rails) and Der Molly got an additional locomotive, built new as well. Switzerland built a new locomotive based on a 52er, a German war locomotive. They designed it new, so that It is faster and looks completely different.

    Very good episode again, it seems that replicas of very early locomotives form an important part of the newbuilds, as do the small industrial, quarry and trench narrow gauge locomotives.
    The Owl was a locomotive which got my attention, it looked like a Heisler with a British topping over it.
    I was missing "Lady of Legend" and however made of old parts a new locomotive in the class, and also the second mainline type of locomotive finished in the 21th Century.
    Could you do an episode on narrow gauge quirks or preserved Garratts in the UK, although the second one is a short one with only 4 different types I know existing in the UK, of which 2 are non runners.
    My hope however is for the industrial Garratt 6841 "William Francis" as this is the only survivor of the Garratts built for domestic use in the UK, it's also a locomotive very suited for most of the preserved railways, made for slower speeds, powerful enough to pull 8 coaches and able to cope with good and bad trackwork.
    Lets spend a million quid on this beauty before we roll another newbuild out.

    Imagine what It'll look like on the L&B once they have 2 more Manning Wardles and a longer line. A gala with Charles, Axe, Issac, Lyn, Lyd, Yeo, and Exe (and mabby a Lew if someone finds it) would be amazing.

    • @melanierhianna
      @melanierhianna 3 года назад

      Big Boy isn't a new build. These are all NEW steam locos. For example none of the locomotives of the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway survived so one line, the Ffestiniog built Lyd as a new one based upon three that did exist, and the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway group (a preservation group) had Lyn built as a copy of the original Lyn. These are all less than 20 years old. There's loads of restored locos which don't feature in this.
