@@coramunro95 thing is; this is what wokeness has done. It has commodified and marketed suffering to the point where there is no distinction between insincerity and sincerity. This song was sincere. It was about acknowledging the past and overcoming it. To come together and celebrate: A black man from a former colony, representing his former colonizers and saying it is a birth of a new age. Slavery did not break the Surinamese and it did not break the Dutch.

Don't know how this got zero points. I voted so hard for this. The only song that really resonated with me. There's so much soul in this.
@Robert Schupp I believe it is because of:
- Netherlands being the host country

- Bad vocals in couple of places, although his powerful amazing voice tops it all.
@@ujjwalsevra2249 lots of people were also disappointed within our own country because the text he said that wasn't English, wasn't Dutch either. It absolutely baffles me while scrolling through these comments that the negative comments are almost exclusively coming from Dutch people. I am Dutch myself and I felt so very proud to be presented this way by Jeangu. I loved the song, performance, vocals but most of all I loved the message. For me Eurovision is about culture and authenticity and this was such a personal piece of Jeangu, I was moved. I can't believe you didn't get more votes. I was mesmerised. Thank you for making this beautiful song.
It was ugly he wouldn’t win anyway
@@jorygames Listen to the lyrics again, then see if you think they're ugly...
@@jorygames suriname is still in South America. People are different, and that's a strength. He's really showing the diversity and the beauty of the Dutch speaking realm.
It's awful song, so not really suprising
@@eliseversteeg2039 it's not in Dutch though.
Absolutely loved the song:)
💚
poor netherlands =(
you deserve so much more! but well so many eastern eu countries got big problems with LGBT or black people.

Suriname 🇸🇷 is proud of you😍❣
Then Suriname should enter the competition next time, instead of butchering Dutch representation.
@@larsdols3157 This 👏🏻
@@larsdols3157 I don´t know if you´ve ever noticed, but there are loads of Dutch people with Surinamese origins.
@@robertdegroot8302 sure, a few. Why is that relevant?
@@larsdols3157 That means they are in fact representing the Netherlands and not Suriname.
Anyway, in all other years we send in something that doesn´t represent te Netherlands at all, but instead represents the USA. Hopefully for intolerant you we´ll send clog-dancers next year.
broccoli
Criminally underrated. One of my personal top 3.
Yeah, it's actually a great song. Nice choreography too!
of ending in last place? Yes we did better than expected leaving 3 countries behind us. Proud to be a Dutchmen.
@@Waterdiver3900 Really? This song is literally about embracing the history of the Netherlands and growing from those roots. "Yu no man broko mi" comes from a Sranan idiom, "Though I am half a cent (worthless), you cannot break me", Sranan being an English and Dutch Creole language from Suriname -- a South American former colony of the Netherlands where Dutch is spoken fluently today. The message was very clear: by knowing your history, you grow from it towards a united future. You assume it was "anti-white" because the performers are Black, but how can it be when he performed it for Eurovision, on behalf of the Netherlands? You're just looking for "anti-white" sentiments everywhere because you want to. Talk about self-victimisation.
@@rachelfox8108 And that is exáctly why people don't like it.
@@Sjaan_Banaan Because they made a song based on a colonial past very relevant to their host country and made it a universal song about the resilience of the human spirit, where everyone is invited to grow stronger together. It's very telling that by "that's why people don't like it", what you really mean is, "that's why white people don't like it", and it has a lot more to do with the performers being Black than their talent or anything they've sung.
This song is the most underated. Very special sound, catchy melody and unique performance. GR
Its a trash song 🇱🇹🇱🇹🇱🇹
@@mariomm9080 it is indeed trash. greetings from the netherlands
