That was the single most informative webcomic video I have seen to date. I've scoured through probably a dozen channels and watched all they had, but this one video trumps all of them combined
On the subject of merging the vector layers before coloring... if you don't want to do that cuz you still want all your lines in different layers, just plop all the vector layers into a new folder, then make the folder the Reference layer.
Back when I first started webtooning, I looked up so many tutorials and got so lost. This is SO helpful and so well organized. So much good information I had no idea about, even though I’ve been webtooning for a year now. Fantastic work. I just had to check out your comic- loving it so far. liked and subbed 👍 keep up the good work
The head-angle template is such a clever shortcut! Could also be useful for hands, props, vehicles . . . this video has given me so many ideas already!
Really valuable and thorough information. Perfect for any beginner webtoon artist. Thanks for making this! Would you consider making a video on speeding up the background process?
Hey there, I'm the Environment Artist for "The Gentleman Panda": There are a few ways to do that. One of the best methods in general is to use a time investment workflow by building a library of assets slowly over time. One option is to take photos of real life locations/objects and do a "photobash" in a program like photoshop. Aerrow did a photobash for a few of her illustrations such as this video: (ruclips.net/video/uUg7W-vL5JU/видео.html); use this method and build sets of re-useable backgrounds for your story. You can get away with alot of reusing assets before it breaks the audience out of their immersion in the story. Second option is to build 3D backgrounds. The trick here is to make sure it's not 'bad 3d' assets that look like junk. It doesn't need to be photoreal stuff (infact stylized assets tend to look better). But just having some 3D stuff as reference for perspective drawing can be insanely helpful. We tend to take this a bit further, where we are building full blown scenes/environments for Swords and Roses and rendering out the materials/textures with full 3D lighting. Then Aerrow comes in after the fact and cleans up with color correction in post. Here is a decent example: (www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/swords-and-roses/ep-11-finding-new-bearings-part-1/viewer?title_no=593163&episode_no=18)
A way to do SAI/ Clip Studio-like line controlling on paper is draw dots, ink 1st with a flat thin pen like micron, then add thickness later with G-pen and you saved time re-doing lines.
I did 2 pilot episodes of my toon. I learned the process, improved my art style and settle for the style i want to go with and actually am redoing these episodes.
This video was amazing. Literally the most informative video on webtoon i have seen yet. I finally feel like I know enough to get started. Thank you so much!!!!
Wow...I thought I was well prepared with the sheets of all angles of my mc, BUT I did not that thing w "registering as material" AAAAH THAT would save me so much time...and yes, I do use vector layers but I did not know about that function of vector lines...THANK U SO MUCH
God thank you sooo much. I’ve drawn soooo many comics but I’ve never gone digital and I really want to make it a goal to publish a graphic novel next year even if I just self publish for myself and moving into the digital era is sooooo scary for me. I just got a drawing tablet and read about the amazing presets for graphic novels in this software but oh my is it overwhelming with zero previous knowledge and watching this really showed me how I can cut a lot of corners with my novel. Not to mention it has a lot of robots and that can be tedious and I can see how this’ll speed me up. I also read u can use 3d images for backdrops and make it looked ink which would be nice but still learning. Anyway, point being: u are the only video that talked to me like I truly had no knowledge. Most videos I can’t even keep up and I just feel overwhelmed haha
I did a similar method with the heads, only I turned it into a brush that spits out a vertical row of 7 heads with the middle head being a straight camera angle and the 3 levels above and below. I'd like to see this method catch on so better artist can build better sets that I can then alter into my style and use since my set is still flawed on a few angles. Ive tried using 3d models to help me understand the head angles more but it doesn't look very good. There's almost a hidden art of translating angles into manga style so that it reads better. A big challenge was getting the jawline stylized in a way that is pleasing in worm eye views.
finally someone explains how they do those fragmented files for webtoons ;v; I've been just making huge files that I later have to collage and experiment how it would look on a phone screen, thanks for all the tips ♥
Thanks a lot! He had a lot finding a tutorial that he understood and this is super well explained and direct for those who do not have much time. You are a savior. Many, but many thanks! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
okay image refs for different head angles is genius tbh, i'm definitly gonna use it u.u vector layers are great! i love them and really missed them when i used photoshop
We will be attempting to make a return with making more content soon. If you want to see what we've been busy with, there is a live stream from yesterday where we do a breakdown of 10 chapters from our comic where we cover a number of topics about our process.
@@TheGentlemanPanda I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE BACK! Thank God, you are my saviour, I'm just planning to start a webtoon for contest here in my country, your channel is amazing and helpful, you deserve more views and subscribers!
12:43 if ur someone like me who dosent do clean lineart and when u use filll the entire canvas becomes that color use lasso fill trust me made by god fr and if u want to fill every place use the fill tool on the section below view etc
Hi everyone! This tutorial was so helpful! Thnk you so much! However, when I open a new file in clip studio paint it doesn't show the PAGE SETTINGS part! Do I have to turn it on somewhere? I'm really new to clip studio, so sorry if it's a dumb question >//
Tons of really good webcomic info, especially for CPS. I kind of need some beginners help for CPS from a comics standpoint, do you have any suggestions for that? Thanks so much, God bless😊
I tried to follow along in the beginning, but I don't have the option to build a folder, or the other options below that. Is this for CSP Pro? I have the basic CSP EX. Do you have any suggestions for those with that version? Otherwise, this is very helpful! Thanks for the video it is helping a lot!
The question is.Can you transfer these webtoon Pages into a traditional Page format at some point? or does it some irreversable damage to the quality or something like this.
You can pick colors and flat an image like normal. The vector lines are special in that they project the line work from the layer above to the one below it as "reference". Then when you use the FILL tool for color, it fills the canvas based on the vector linework from the separate layer that was marked as 'reference'. Kind of like cutting out a stencil and then spray painting a wall. (where the stencil in this example is the line-art and the spray paint is the fill colors for the flats)

@@temporaryjedi Maybe they mean place/draw the vectors?

Does it matter which clip studio u are signed up for?

I think it’s just a clip studio paint EX thing, I don’t think PRO has that option.
I didn't even know there was a vector eraser.
Tons of really good webcomic info, especially for CPS. I kind of need some beginners help for CPS from a comics standpoint, do you have any suggestions for that? Thanks so much, God bless😊
Can you make one for backgrounds?
Hi! Thanks for the video, it was really helpful! Are all the features you used here found in the pro or ex version?
EX
I wanna know one thing that did she make on Computer or laptop?
What kind of setup does we need for webtoon? cause I have made my WEBTOON on my phone
This is all on the computer. There is a mobile version but idk if these tricks work there
I tried to follow along in the beginning, but I don't have the option to build a folder, or the other options below that. Is this for CSP Pro? I have the basic CSP EX. Do you have any suggestions for those with that version? Otherwise, this is very helpful! Thanks for the video it is helping a lot!
I believe Aerrow was using Clip Studio Paint Ex, as that is the one with the more advanced features.
@@torin3d thanks 😊
When I import the head angles it’s too large and idk a way of zooming it out without cutting part of the head is there a method for that?
The question is.Can you transfer these webtoon Pages into a traditional Page format at some point? or does it some irreversable damage to the quality or something like this.
but how come I can't find "page settings" when i have csp pro ?
Well incase I ever learn how to draw then this was very useful. Until then rip me
for the vector lines, will you be able to color it afterward or do you have to pick which color you want to use from the beginning?

Why doesn’t mine show page settings??
Are you using pro or EX?
EX. The pro version isn’t nearly as useful for comics
