    Looks Amazing! So I’m in a predicament. Previous years I have always projected in the window on a frosty shower curtain. This year I bought the hollusion material since I want the full effect on our front porch outside instead of just in the window. The projector is still inside projecting through the window onto the hollusion fabric outside. The issue is you can fully see the projector light. I tried angling it with no luck. Next I tried projecting from the front on the grass outside. Looks great but now you can see it on the wall behind the material as well. Any suggestions?

    Looks great. Adding things behind the screen makes the hologram better. More real. Cool,... blending in the different holograms from Atmosfx, I do that too. I also bluetooth my Benq projector sound to a bass guitar amp. Great rumble plus visuaL. Atmost screens are the only way to go. I'd tried everything. Great video!

    Thanks for the info! Your set up was amazing! I heard what you said about the projectors, but is the newest (2018) Atmos Plus kit projector still no good? I know it's LED, but wondering if you have tried it since you made this video. For one night a year, the Epsons and Viewsonics, even used, are pricey!

    • @NovaHalloween
      @NovaHalloween  5 лет назад +1

      I haven't purchased any of the Atmos kits yet, but I am thinking about picking one up and will definitely review it if this happens. The newer kit does seem to be a significant upgrade from the original projector, so I think it could be a good buy if someone has no use for a larger projector outside of the Halloween season.

      This is a front projection. In general the image will be brighter with a front projection, but it is often much easier to hide the projector with a rear projection. For example, in this other video outside I am using a rear projection setup:

      Nova Halloween any advice on hiding the projector?

    • @NovaHalloween
      @NovaHalloween  8 лет назад

      There are many ways - some easier and more effective than others. Last year for my singing pumpkins display (front projection, just two feet away from the trick or treaters), I put the projector inside a hard styrofoam box (lots of ventilation), covered the box with dark, thin halloween fabric, and put a large tombstone in front of it as part of the decor. The projector was completely hidden - very easy to do.

    Hi NovaHalloween! I have some questions regarding the HD digital downloads, so if you could reply, that'd be great!
    1) When you take your flash drive with the downloads on it and plug it into the media player and projector, is there a menu screen that pops up with all of the different display modes on it?
    2) When I buy the downloads off of AtmosFX's website, do they download onto my computer and then I drag the files to the flash drive??
    Thank you!

    • @NovaHalloween
      @NovaHalloween  7 лет назад

      1) The type of menu will depend on the media player you are using. I am using a simple one I found on ebay (I'll have a review soon). But, if you have different scenes on your card or USB, you should be able to select any video you wish with your player.
      2) Correct.

    For material I used what I found when I visited the Jo-Ann fabrics near me.
    They had 8 yards left for 7.99/ yard on sale for ~5.49/yard.
    I tried it out with the ATMOSFX projector kit BJ's sold normally for $80 on sale for $60 last year.
    I will say it worked really well, just as good as the white cloth they shipped with the projector.
    It's not as dark as what you bought, so it may not be as good.
    Sticker was as follows
    CASA COLLECTION
    CASA MESH PLATINUM

      I will say these scrim like fabrics need a good higher output projector.
      They work okay with the $40 ones as long as the room is dark.

      I will look to invest in one of these next year maybe or a used 720P Epson.

    What is the best substitute type of material to use for AtmosFX hollusion material when front projecting outside with the front wall (it’s a light color) of the house about 6 feet away from the material. I want to have the material be as transparent as possible so it isn’t seen during the day but won’t allow too much bleed through if the image into my house. I am projecting AtmosFX’s pirate.

    • @NovaHalloween
      @NovaHalloween  7 лет назад

      Thanks!
      If you are going for a hologram illusion:
      There are so many materials that could potentially work. I definitely recommend going to a fabric store with a flashlight and testing out the samples. Bridal tulle is a good candidate, but the color, texture, and thickness will all factor into how well it works. Ideally you are looking for a fabric that captures most of the light, produces a sharp image, but is still see-though enough to give the hologram illusion.
      If you are just doing a window projection:
      Find the thinest white shower curtain possible - this works great!

    • @adamdowney9423
      @adamdowney9423 7 лет назад

      Nova Halloween thanks for the reply! What are your thoughts on this:

      Its my first setup so appreciate the advice!

    • @NovaHalloween
      @NovaHalloween  7 лет назад

      I suppose that could work, but I would recommend just going out to an actual store so you can see the material...and then buy the thinest (and usually cheapest) curtain you can find. One of the comments for that particular curtain states that the material is thick, which isn't what you are looking for.

    • @NovaHalloween
      @NovaHalloween  7 лет назад

      Thanks! Here are my top 10 tips:
      1) The material you use is very important. I am using Hollision Material from AtmosFear, but this isn't necessary to get a good effect. Often, people tend to use fabric that is too thin. For the effect, the material does not need to be see-through in daylight (as you can see in this video when it is on the floor).
      2) Keep the projector as far back from the screen as possible while still having a bright image and the size you need.
      3) Position the fabric so that it is not too close to any walls.
      4) Increase the lighting in the room to reduce the bleed through.
      5) It helps to have a patterned background on the wall where bleed through could happen (see the curtains in this video).
      6) Moving lights (like in this video) are very effective for minimizing bleed through.
      7) Intentionally light up objects in the background (I have a red spotlight pointing directly at the skeleton).
      8) Point your projector at a slight angle to direct any bleed-through to a less visible location.
      9) Place a variety of objects in the background rather than a single flat surface such as a wall
      10) Lower the brightness of your projector - this effect usually doesn't need maximum light intensity to be effective.
      Hope this helps!

    Entry teams of the world. You have got to realize this could be a great distration device! If you have hostage takers in a room with hostages and you know who your dealing with and a fear of goasts is a physiological weakness you could very well lower a very hard to see screen over a window along with some nearby speakers and you could very well captivate and distract some hostage takers while your other team breaches and clears. If it's too custom tailored to their culture they might see through the ruse. But just make it mysterious and distracting and have it backed up by video and/or audio feed into the situation to make sure it's working and it's a sure fire(pun welcome) way to get them off their gaurd.

    have you tried positioning the projector on the backside? just wondering if the image won't bleed through and on to the people. just wondering if you don't have the option to do a front projection.

    • @NovaHalloween
      @NovaHalloween  8 лет назад +1

      Yes, I also use a rear projection for some effects. You can see an example here:
      ruclips.net/video/VbwLejIx_Xs/видео.html
      If the viewers are a fair distance from a rear projection, the bleed through will be very minimal. If they will be close up, a front projection is often the best if possible. But even with a close up rear projection, you can usually play with angles and projector placement to minimize the light that shines directly onto guests.

    • @NovaHalloween
      @NovaHalloween  8 лет назад +1

      Unless the projector has a built in media player (I am not aware of any that have this), you will need an external player (DVD, blue ray, digital media player, etc). I haven't tested the starter kit from AtmosFear. The resolution of the projector is a bit low for my liking, but for someone just getting started, it looks to be a decent value.

      Good question. It depends on whether your specific projector can play media files. No all of them can, but with newer models you may not need a separate media player.

    Does this material work with AtmosFX 'window' projections with a dark background (no lights)? I want to use scenes with backgrounds as well as the holograms, but don't want a white screen. Thanks

    • @NovaHalloween
      @NovaHalloween  8 лет назад

      Sure, I think it would also work for windows, although you may see through into the room a bit from the outside. I used this fabric as a window screen in the video below. I intentionally turned a light on inside to create a hologram effect, but without this light the projection looked quite solid.

    How much light from the projector passes through? I'm concerned about rear projecting from my house into the yard and the bleed through bothering my neighbors across the street or cars driving by. Does the material catch a lot of the projector lighting? Thanks so much!

    • @NovaHalloween
      @NovaHalloween  7 лет назад +1

      The material catches a good portion of the light but not all of it. The light that passes through would only be a problem if someone was looking directly at the projector lens. I guess it would depend on how close your neighbor's are and whether there is a clear line of sight to the projector. You would definitely want to position it so that it is not shining directly into drivers' eyes :)

    Hello Nova! I have a super small budget of only $130 for a decent projector. Can you help direct me preferably from Amazon(where I can get the purchase to arrive by this weekend)a decent projector for that price???

    • @NovaHalloween
      @NovaHalloween  7 лет назад

      For $130 it would be quite difficult to find a new projector that will be bright and sharp enough for a decent sized projection. However, rather than Amazon, maybe give eBay a try - you may be able to get a used projector (maybe 720P rather than full HD) for around $150. If you are just using it for Halloween projections it doesn't need to be super high res, but brightness still matters quite a bit.

    • @NovaHalloween

      It sounds like you haven't found the right mesh yet. You probably need something with a tighter texture. Did you pick it out at a fabric store? The best way to test it is with a bright flashlight in the store. You want something that will produce a sharp spot without too much bleed through.

      It would look very similar. Projector placement usually just depends on the space you have to set up your display. A front projection will be brighter, but it is often more difficult to hide the projector.

      You must have a good quality set of stereo speakers. If you have one of the older surround sound systems, even better. It's what I use and with the HD projector, laptop or DVD player it will give amazing effects indoor or out. As to the question people ask about protection from weather or theft, I have no ideas. I at least take the 3 components in every night. A bit of trouble but less expensive than theft of rain.
