I've had mine for six years and here are a few tips and options: For garage door you can use a jack-shaft opener which mounts on the wall and eliminates all of the ceiling mounted stuff. As for the pump and hoses if you are primarily working on the front or rear of the car simply position the pump dolly at the opposite end and unless you are constantly having to lift and lower the vehicle you can completely disconnect and set aside the whole thing once the lift is on the safeties and pressure is released. Now, as to the concrete and mounts, it's normal to be ultra conservative but these things have been around for at least ten years now and there is not a single story of a failure in that respect. Furthermore I'm fairly certain that a failure would make itself evident with further cracks or loose inserts and would not just explosively disintegrate and collapse in a catastrophic incident. Finally, you got a great deal from Bendpak with that creeper!

I warned a youtuber about the fact he mounted too close to a control joint in his floor and he should watch it. Sure enough he developed a crack coming off one of the anchors to the control joint. Wasn't a catastrophic failure but ignored long enough it can be.

Let me start by saying thanks for taking the time to make the video. Secondly, I think we must be related, your situation is exactly like mine, I too work and maintain family cars with the occasional customer who needs help. I’m just about convinced on buying the MaxJax and YES I too was concerned about getting under a lift from a sitting position. I was considering building taller stands for this reason so thank you for showing those mid rise stands (never knew they existed). My garage is fully insulated with heat and a/c and although I don’t have a Porsche, I have a 71 Chevelle and my wife’s 76 Corvette that I’m getting ready to LS swap. Thanks again!

Just this week I called Max Jax about a problem with my ten year old mj. Their so called tech dept couldn’t tell me why my cylinder kept leaking very bad. They told me to buy a new power assembly. I was talking back and forth to Alabama and California. They said that these are still built in China and tested in California. I said could talk to someone there, she said no. The company that installed new seals discovered the bearings were worn out, that’s where it was leaking. Max Jax and Bend Pak have a ways to go in technical support.

Thanks Dennis. I have to admit that I feel better about it as time goes on but it takes less than a minute to put the stand under the arm, so why not? If I'm doing something quick in a corner or two, I might just use one or two stands.

normally the jacks are not needed, both columns have the mechanical lock if the hydraulics fails but they make sense with that crack there so close as the column could collapse under the tension if the base fails, $300 is less expensive than cutting the slab 3x3 and pouring again, I have seen people do it in you tube but the instructions clearly says not to install the lift on hand mixed cement maybe because the whole PSI needed. I just got mine today, will work slowly on installing it, my garage is 20x20 and the slab was poured when the house was built in 1974, it has no cracks and floor is level but I have no idea yet how thick the slab is and its PSI. it was hard to get it out of the box as my pallet came kind of higher in one end, got few scratches that are inevitable by moving the columns for at the time of this writing have both columns with the wheels and handles and all parts ready to go; I read the instructions, following it to the tee as much as I can and still come to you tube to watch all material available for this. Those yellow arms are heavier than I expected

    • @PIFDIY
      @PIFDIY  4 месяца назад

Yep, the mechanical lock will be fine. It took me some time to get over the fear of being under the car and the jacks just gave me total peace of mind. Good luck and enjoy you new lift!

OMG It's kind of amusing, A man and his garage... Garage upgrades... I have the MaxJax M6 lift in my double door garage... I did that first... I replaced both of my garage doors about two months ago, and you are correct they were an awesome investment in the curb appeal of the house as well as better than the 40+ year old un-insulated extremely heavy torsion spring breaking (2 springs in 5 years) wood doors at keeping the heat inside the garage. Love the extended track for your garage door opener great idea if your overhead room is minimal, I replaced the opener above my lift space with a Jack-Shaft opener which was worth every penny, so much quieter and now I can lift all the way to the lights on the 8ft ceiling in the garage. I see others have mentioned the Jack-Shaft opener in the comments, although from your headroom above the door I dont think that option is viable for your garage. Also have been planning but have not pulled the trigger yet on LED lighting upgrades. My garage has the smaller 4 foot CFL bulbs currently and is plenty well lit so I've been saving that one for last but have been browsing the options on Amazon lol. With my lift I chose to mount the pump\motor on the lift post in the center of the garage and extend my hose and power cable. For the hydraulic hoses go looking for farm supply stores either in rural areas or on the edge of suburban
ural areas. I am on the edge of the suburbs in the Chicago-land area and 5 minutes from farm land as far as the eye can see in two directions and the local Farm\Fleet supply store near here is called Blane's Farm & Fleet. They carry several in store pre-made in box length hose options and an array of fittings you will need. I would imagine an equivalent in
ear every rural area may exist, although it might be a long drive if you are in the 'burbs. Power cable plugs into the old garage door outlet like it was made for it and luckily I have an attic above my garage so I ran the hose through the ceiling and attic down the other side. I mounted the metal plate with the pump\motor assembly to the center post at the top with a 2x12x16 or so piece of lumber that I painted flat black with a rattle can and it looks and functions great there like having it post mounted in the local garage.

Do a search in Google "hydraulic hose repair near me" and you'll find places local to you. Bring the OEM hose from the Maxjax with you and tell them what you're doing. They'll figure out what fittings are needed and make up the additional hose. Good luck.

I wasted money on all the usual things trying to make it easier, racing trolley jacks, air jacks etc.
I looked at the quick jacks and the design is not very good, besides they don't give me much more height than what I was already doing. So it would have been another half measure that yielded little results.
my concrete floor was badly cracked with frost heaves so I bought a cheap jackhammer and removed a 12x12 pad, poured 6 inch deep 40 psi with rebar .
the car needs exhaust work and steering rack which sits against the firewall so that ruled out scissor lifts.
the maxjax ain't cheap , I weighed saving up but the price jumps 400-500 every year , I put it on a credit card, it will be paid off in less than 6 months and i'll have use of the lift as i pay for it.
Free delivery from home depot, they will drop it in my driveway, price is 3350.
i've seen them priced higher and they entail hassling with freight trucks who say i need a forklift to remove it from the truck.
i ordered the maxjax 2 days ago.
no more lying on concrete and getting brake fluid in my hair. wish i did it yrs ago.
