Your ranking matches mine exactly and I’ve been listening to Pink Floyd since I first saw them in concert in March of 1973 when they debuted Dark Side of the Moon. Enjoying your reactions. You have a good insight for their musical talent as well as the lyrics. Keep enjoying Floyd as I have for 50+ years.
Insomuch as Waters used Orwell's idea of anthropromorphized barnyard animals to represent human society. The album has nothing to do with the story in "Animal Farm."
@@tommc3622 Except the pigs(capitalists/free marketeers) and dogs(their hit men ) are the villains ...Waters is interpreting what he gets from Animal Farm--Me too ,
@@tommc3622 Actually, kind of does. The novel is about greed and control, which is Roger's main point with the album as well. Though, as you note, there is no connection between the plot or characters. Love the album, but the novel broke my heart. Boxer may have been gullible, but he was good, and I hated what they did to him. Frickin' pigs!
Animals is one of my all time favorite albums! It's a great homage to George Orwells "Animal Farm" Rogers lyrics are quite Poignant even today! David's amazing gritty guitar, Nicks chill drums, and Richard's visceral keys/synth. So happy I got to see a lot of this album live at a Roger Water's concert. Changed my life honestly. Pink Floyd will always be ahead of their time even in 2024! It's a commentary on society and class. Dogs are the businessmen who stab and claw their way to the top, pigs are the rich and powerful, and sheep are the common people. I would react to Meddle next then The Wall!
That's Battersea Power Station and this album probably saved it from being demolished. Right next door to Battersea Dogs Home and Battersea Cats Home, which fits with the Animals connection. Although the cover is a stylised representation, they actually did fly an inflatable pig over the building as you can see by the black & white shots inside. Dogs is probably still my all time favourite Pink Floyd track. Bought the album the day it came out, which makes me a sad old man I can now relate to 🙂 The a few months earlier I also bought Anarchy In The UK the day it came out, so I failed to be either a Hippy or a Punk.
The “Dragged down by the STONE” echo, where it is on side one (on vinyl), actually bleeds thru the vinyl and into side 2. It’s obvious when your hear “STONE-STONE-STONE fade back in. They thought everything thru to the last detail!
The transition from Waters' voice into the synth keys in sheep is such a different technique for the times. We forget that these sounds and phrases are born from the 70's. 50 plus years ago. PF certainly one of the greatest bands to conjure up long pieces that keep you interested all the way through. Great reaction as usual Kez
Yeah man great to see your going through the albums so quickly and the right way, not many do. I grew up on Pink Floyd and it still gives me the same feeling every time I listen to it. I own all their albums and have seen them in concert in person. Music like this for me in high school was a staple when underage drinking at that age was the norm. In my day we had small outdoor parties with a Keg or Case of Beer and our girlfriends and it was always a great night.
Same here. I bought that 8 track the same day I bought a new stereo for my car, a Pioneer Supertuner. Ah, what a day that was driving around blasting Pink Floyd Animals.
Just think...we had to wait 2-3 years between albums. You're killing 'em in a week! It's because we had those years in-between that we know the music so well and all of the trivia. 😊 Oh, and the damn near 50 years of continuing to listen to it...and learn more as the band members age and recall and give more interviews and such. Fecking legends they are.
Actually during sheep I wasn't up and dancing but in 1977 I got to see them perform this live!!! They played the entire wish you were here album then the entire Animals album and then half of dark side of the moon for their encore!!! The atmosphere of that concert was so intense because of the visuals Pink Floyd puts on the beyond belief sound system they have I saw at least two dozen people hauled away because they had either freaked out or they had enhanced their visit too much with something!!! These guys set up speakers on the stage behind the audience on both sides of the audience and above the audience and basically put you inside a giant set of headphones!!! Then they blast 233,000 watts of power through their lighting and sound system during Pink Floyd concerts!! Check anything out during their 1994 Pulse concert and you'll see what I mean!!!!!!!!!!
Another album worthy of consideration is Meddle (1971). I would also recommend you watch the performance of Echoes, (a song on the Meddle album) recorded live at Pompei in a ghostly, empty amphitheater. (Pompei being the famous city buried by a volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.)
Sorry, one more. When you mentioned “gilmour guitar speaking words”, there are 4 or 5 guitars, all gilmour. Two playing harmonies simultaneously, one in the background playing higher and one or two acoustic guitars in that section. I think that bridge repeats itself 2 or three times. Then the dogs appear. Listen closely, they turn into keyboards. Roger’s voice will do the same later on side 2. Crazy great!!!!
The crazy instrument you hear in pigs three different ones is not a harmonica. That's actually David Gilmour the guitarist on what is called a talkbox! It's plugged into the guitar and you take it in your mouth and make a humming noise and it reverberates back through the guitar and you can make all kinds of weird sounds with that instrument! Again it's called a talk box.
It is a talkbox, but that's not how it works. The guitars sound comes out of a tube, which is directed into the mouth of the guitarist. The guitarist then manipulates that sound by changing the shape of their mouth, and this sound is picked up by a microphone.
If you want to see Gilmour use the talk box watch Keep Talking on Pulse 2019 version. The lights on that show are about 40% visible on video to what it actually looked like RL.
a week before my 16th birthday in may of 1977 my friend scott called me and said, "pink floyd is playing at the stadium tonight. we should go!". i was only a casual fan, mostly stuff i had heard on the radio from "the dark side of the moon". that night we sat in the outfield of anaheim stadium and watched pink floyd play "animals" in its entirety as well as stuff from "wish you were here" and "dark side". the next day i went out and bought "animals", and the rest of that summer i immersed myself in pink floyd music, buying every album in their back catalog. i went back to school in september a different person than the one who left in june. i had a whole new outlook on the world, and my taste in music changed dramatically. pop music was out,and progressive rock was in. that one night with pink floyd changed everything. i don't know who i would be today if scott hadn't called me that day,so thank you to him, where ever he is now.
Richard Wright was getting new updated synthesizers with each new album allowing for a greater mix of tech and sounds. That explains all those space sounds on DOGS. He was very creative on his lines.
Please go back and hit some early Floyd. Suggest you crank up "Meddle." It'll lock you in from the very first track. And Echoes? Pack for a long trip on the astral plane. Cheers....

I was lucky enough to see them tour this album in Montreal at the Olympic stadium. They had pigs flying above the open roof. One of the best concerts I've ever seen. Cheers from Canada!
No, it wasn’t a harmonica. It was a Mouthharp or Squak box. It was fairly new technology when they made the album and decided to incorporate it into pigs.

I'm 51 and have loved and grew up on Floyd since I was 8 years old. My late big sister was a huge fan back in the day. But even after that I didn't fully love and appreciate "Animals" till I was in my late 20's to early 30's. It's a lyrical and musical masterpiece mate! There's a strong political theme to this album. Good luck America with what is upcoming in the election from over the pond in the UK. I think we will all be done in by the rich in the end.
It wasn't a harmonica...it was played with the mouth. That was Gilmour on something called a talk box. The guitar sound is played through a tube that goes into his mouth. A microphone records that echo/articulation.
Yes, David Gilmour is the guitarist (and a great vocalist). The album is loosely based on Orwell's book, 1984. The different animals represent different classes within British society in the mid 70's. Dogs represent businessmen with ruthless agendas, Pigs are the wealthy and powerful and the Sheep are people who obey & conform to the Pigs' rule. Largely created by Roger Waters, this album was a low point for the band members. Tension and disagreements created a bad environment, culminating in Waters firing Rick Wright. It received poor reviews in the press. David Gilmour's guitar solo in Dogs was a high point, imo.
Many of Pink Floyd albums are Concept albums, there's a story that's being told to the listener. "Animals" is one of those Concept albums, so are "The Dark Side Of The Moon" and "Wish You Were Here". The DSOTM album is about life and death and what that entails, "Wish You Were Here" is about Syd Barrett, one of the four founding members of Pink Floyd in 1964. It's a tragic story about hard drugs and a likely psychosis. This album is loosely based on George Orwells famous novel "Animal Farm", it's a story of a corrupt society with the Dogs, Pigs and Sheep representing different groups of people of society. Check out some of Pink Floyds 1994 Pulse Concert, incredible production and sound alone with laser and lighting effects Floyd is famously known in their live performances.
Actually, the Orwell story goes a bit differently, though it's accurate to say that Roger took the idea of using animals as representations of political concepts from Orwell, the particular concepts and ideas presented within were his own.
When Animals was performed live in stadiums all over the world in 1977, giant inflated pigs, sheep, and dogs floated over the stadiums throughout the concert. The Pig would become an iconic symbol of Pink Floyd and appeared in all their live concerts to the very end. I saw them in 1988 in Chicago and a really scary pig with giant balls and bright spotlights for eyes floated out over the audience at one point. Freaky! "The Wall" next. Better buckle up for this one.
This album might have been Pink Floyd but if David would have it, it was actually a Roger Waters album featuring David Gilmour Rick Wright and Nick Mason. Gilmour and Waters weren't seeing eye to eye during this album. This is why David won't play any of these songs live. You won't hear them live unless Roger does them live.
Pink Anderson Floyd Council Two great Blues musicians the band was named after. I've been a Pink Floyd fan since 68. Seen them five times. Dark Side of the Moon Animals The Wall Momentary Lapse of Reason ( twice) second time was a Encore concert the following night. It also sold out in hours. Largest and longest concert from a single band I ever attended. And just like the wall they had a large Orchestra mixed choir and boys Choir. At the Wall they built a large wall between the stage and the audience. Listen to Echoes live at Pompeii. Also AI has created videos of Pink Floyd albums. It's trippy psychedelic visuals. 🚜🤠🐂
I usually don't care for the full album reactions by RUclipsrs. But you young man are on a different level from all the other reactors on here. I've enjoyed watching and feeling your ride immensely. Thank you
Ok, this one was destroyed by Rolling Stone Magazine back when it came out and killed sales. Rolling Stone was the music bible back then and killed many bands. ONE OF THEIRE BEST!
Division Bell and Atom Heart Mother are also great albums. Hell even the early stuff Saucer Full of Secrets and Piper at the Gates have some great stuff for 1960's psychedelic rock.
The Wall is next, and it's an audio movie, and I strongly suggest you go to Wikipedia, search The Wall, scroll down, and open concept and storyline, then scroll to plot and read it or you will have NO FUCKING IDEA what's going on
For me Pink Floyd was Sitting or Laying Down and simply cooling out dripping into the music. Dancing, Um for me no. Maybe a sway of the head or a tap of the fingers to the beat, But dancing for me that's a no.
I guess since you are in the same era, The Wall should be next. Just a note: Check up on what The Wall is about, if you listen to it going in blind, you probably won't get it, Personally, I enjoyed it much better after I found out what it actually was about../.
RULE # 1 !!! If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times...when you world turns to shit and you've had a crappy day, you come home, pour a scotch (or similar), or glass of red, drink that offing it down. Then, pour another, woof that down too, then pour a third one and go turn off all the lights. Put this OR ANY Pink Floyd record on. Go find a bean bag or deep leather couch, put your headphones on and sink down into your chair, close your eyes, sip away the final drink, and let the music sooth your soul !!!
What we used to do when we were rocking out is "air-guitar" or "air-band." Play whatever instrument you want and pretend you're in front of a crowd tearing it up. This what us folk who can't dance did. 😂😂😂 To be good at it, though, you DID have to have rhythm, otherwise you just lookin' like a fool (which even good air-banders look like 😂😂😂).
I’m SIKED LETS GO! Did you pay attention to the roles of animals. Comparing them in human form! I missed the Livestream. Damn & for my favorite album! Some of the greatest lines in this song. Definitely Some gangster bars! My favorite line is in Dogs “And it’s too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around” also did u notice the sounds of the pigs, sheep & dogs?
This album was loosely based on the book Animal farm , dogs - policemen, pigs- politicians and rich men, sheep are we the people, the pig noises Is David Gilmore on the talk box with real pig noises thrown in, Great reaction
Now that you are well on your way down the Pink Floyd rabbit hole, you should check out their 1994 Pulse concert, You can see the people behind the music, and enjoy some awesome Master pieces, See what their concerts were like, I'm sure you will be awe struck my Friend, when you have a chance to listen to their albums again, dim the lights in the room, turn your phone off, put your headphones on, get comfortable, start the album, close your eyes, enjoy nonstop from start to finish, each song blends into the next . God Bless
you will probably react to "the wall" so maybe in one go a reaction to the movie because there was also a movie "the wall" and its soundtrack is songs from the album "the wall" instead of listening only to the songs you can watch movie too, it could be a good combo :)
So,...... do you want to hear a funny Pink Floyd story? Good- that image you've seen of the factory with the tall towers and the giant inflatable pig floating between the front two... and other pictures in the album jacket involving a big inflatable pig floating around... Well that all came about when, at the time of the album, they were trying to do a photo shoot involving this big helium-filled pig when it "escaped" its moorings and began floating dangerously and hilariously over these factories... making the photo shoot a bit different than they had probably planned... Now fast forward to the late '80s: I was at a pink Floyd concert at the Oakland Coliseum, and they had a gigantic inflatable pig staged at the very back top of the enormous stadium, scheduled to slide on some sort of zip line all the way down to the stage (I assumed during the song "pigs"). The thing was huge, like 40 or 50 ft long... and it sported a gargantuan set of male genitalia... That is to say- it had a huge dick and balls... It was grotesque. Well anyway, before it could do its thing, it must have sprung a LEAK because it started to sag and look a bit deflated... then a bunch of the spectators up in the very back managed to get ahold of the thing's scrotum and started jumping up and down yanking on it in unison, making the pig look like it was humping the stadium... 60,000 very stoned people laughed their asses off. Now that's what I call a good time. At some point thereafter they lit these big colorful smoke bombs, plus it started to rain, and they shot all these crazy lasers through all that... We sat there all big-eyed and grinning as a billion watts of Pink Floyd flooded across the sea of tiny humans... Peace be upon you, sir.
I would recommend to listen to Led Zeppelin's first album all the way through it's as good as this album Led Zeppelin has sold an estimated 200-300 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time
@31:00 not a harmonica. It's called a talk box. A special pedal for the guitar that transfers sound via a tube to the guitar players mouth. He can then shape the sound with the mouth into the microphone. Pretty cool eh?!

Do either MEDDLE, or OBSCURED BY CLOUDS , next. You won,t be disappointed, also ATOM HEART MOTHER, or MORE. Peace out!
What you thought was "burping" was the sound of a pig. Animals....
@@FreeOkie that’s crazy 😂😂
Next Step: The Wall. A dark masterpiece. The mother of all Rock Operas.
The absolute best song by Pink Floyd of all time is Shine on you Crazy Diamond. Check out the extended version of the video they have for that song.

Pink Anderson
Floyd Council
Two great Blues musicians the band was named after.
I've been a Pink Floyd fan since 68. Seen them five times.
Dark Side of the Moon
Animals
The Wall
Momentary Lapse of Reason ( twice) second time was a Encore concert the following night.
🚜🤠🐂
Junior year in high school, smokin and listening to Pink Floyd.
That “liquid” keyboard action at the beginning of Sheep…fucking phenomenal!!!
Great reaction! Next album was The Wall 1979 😊
@@ericsandi6619 might be next 💪🏾
thank you 😎👍🎶🎶 next Album , The Wall = like a movie . After you react to The Wall album , watch The Wall the movie when you can . 👍
My favorite album and concert.
We were at pig level,
floating right past us
❤🎉😊
Wish you were here, Dark side of the Moon, Animals, cant wait for you to do Meddle and do Echoes Live.
@@PREPERMIKE2012 might be next 🤷🏾♂️🔥🔥 who knows
I usually don't care for the full album reactions by RUclipsrs.
But you young man are on a different level from all the other reactors on here.
I've enjoyed watching and feeling your ride immensely. Thank you
This is to me exactly what Rock is about. I was 12 Years young when this came out and instantly got me.
Ok, this one was destroyed by Rolling Stone Magazine back when it came out and killed sales. Rolling Stone was the music bible back then and killed many bands. ONE OF THEIRE BEST!
I always wondered what happen to this great album. I should have known Rolling Stones Mag would ruin it. I wonder if they took Dogs to mean them
Who was it that said if you struggle holding a job tried journalism, if that doesn't work try music journalism. Rolling Stone magazine is trash though
Pink Floyd rarely does bad songs, if ever!
They've never really made a bad song as far as I'm concerned. They rarely do songs that aren't great imo.
Just subscribed a few days ago. I am diggin your Pink Floyd journey. I am here for it. Do not sleep on Piper At The Gates Of Dawn.
@@dajuice4200 appreciate the love 💪🏾 and I’ll check them out
Division Bell and Atom Heart Mother are also great albums. Hell even the early stuff Saucer Full of Secrets and Piper at the Gates have some great stuff for 1960's psychedelic rock.
The Wall is next, and it's an audio movie, and I strongly suggest you go to Wikipedia, search The Wall, scroll down, and open concept and storyline, then scroll to plot and read it or you will have NO FUCKING IDEA what's going on
its a guitar going through a voice box
might be my number 1 album ever
MEDDLE MEDDLE MEDDLE!!!
For me Pink Floyd was Sitting or Laying Down and simply cooling out dripping into the music. Dancing, Um for me no. Maybe a sway of the head or a tap of the fingers to the beat, But dancing for me that's a no.
16:15 wait until you've listened to this album 100 times and you're still blown away
No matter how many times I hear this album, something else appears from the mix that I missed the first thousand times around.
Yes, insecurity seems to play a role here. Among other feelings. Bro you've got the needed patience for this complicated music and lyrics.
GILMORE is using a "talk box " effect on his guitar, on Pigs
Have A Cigar from their Wish You Were Here album
He just did that album.
@marymargaretmoore9034 Found it...
Thanks you for the heads up
@@brettsmith724 👍
Please do the pulse concert and the live in Gdańsk concert , you won’t be disappointed
43:41 The thing about pink floyd is you never get used to it
What we used to do when we were rocking out is "air-guitar" or "air-band." Play whatever instrument you want and pretend you're in front of a crowd tearing it up.
THE WALL
This album was loosely based on the book Animal farm , dogs - policemen, pigs- politicians and rich men, sheep are we the people, the pig noises Is David Gilmore on the talk box with real pig noises thrown in, Great reaction
"The final cut" album gonna break you down man
Now that you are well on your way down the Pink Floyd rabbit hole, you should check out their 1994 Pulse concert, You can see the people behind the music, and enjoy some awesome Master pieces, See what their concerts were like, I'm sure you will be awe struck my Friend, when you have a chance to listen to their albums again, dim the lights in the room, turn your phone off, put your headphones on, get comfortable, start the album, close your eyes, enjoy nonstop from start to finish, each song blends into the next . God Bless
Meddle or the wall next!! 🙏🙏🙏
I can totally imagine you on the Triangle . I think one is in ur future . 😉⭐️
you will probably react to "the wall" so maybe in one go a reaction to the movie because there was also a movie "the wall" and its soundtrack is songs from the album "the wall" instead of listening only to the songs you can watch movie too, it could be a good combo :)
now it's time for The Wall.....
So,...... do you want to hear a funny Pink Floyd story?
You must do their first album. It's proper 1960s Psychedelia.
I grow up listento heavy metal u still listen today age 64
I see these 14 time live
